Russian: Yet another victim of terrorism
takeanumber replied to Hawk's topic in The Rest of the World
Sure, blame the victims. It's digusting when they do that. Try to rationalize with the enemy. They truly remind me of a bunch of French socialists from the 1930's. Nazi sympathizers. I can't believe anybody would have that sentiment, that somehow they brought it upon themselves. Give me a break. Did China bring on the rape of nanjing? Did the Jews bring on the holocaust? Did they have it comming? Disgusting rationalizations. You can't negotiate with people like that, because what they want, we won't do. Just as my forefathers didn't bend one inch to those Nazi bastards, we're not going to bend one inch to the Arabic-Islam incarnation of the Nazi party. No way, no how. -
Hearst was able to operate newspapers profitably. Black, who was closely aligned with the Alliance and the Calgary Elite, has really, really fallen from grace. And it's just remarkable that nobody is stepping up and admitting that they were wrong to support him, and especially wrong for how he treated employees at the Herald. I won't hold my breath. But I do think that Black is emblematic of the tory kleptocracy controlling our media, banks, oil companies and natural resource firms.

Alright: and here's you get around that: Since 10,000 is the lowest common denominator, then make all the seats 10,000 people. You'd get closer, better representation. You'd reduce the power of the leader. The public-party interface would be very intimate. 750 MLA's in the National Assembly? If that's what it takes to make politics responsive again, If that's what it takes to reduce the power of the leader, If that's what it takes to restore the principle of one vote, one person. Then do it. ------------ The Supreme Court has ruled that upwards of 50% of variation is acceptable (their logic was disgusting, based on 'effective representation'), whereas exeptions can be made. So the Supreme Court has it wrong. Effective representation implies equality, something the SC ignored because it was convinient for them. --------- The PC's will win the next election.

I can recall the Herald and the idealogue's who worked there, blindly defending Conrad Black. I have vivid memories of people who defended Black when Chretien upheld the law that you couldn't be a Canadian citizen and have a title. (A law in the spirit of 1837, which I support wholeheartedly.). I also have vivid memories of avid right wingers, Alliance buttons pinned to the chest, vehemently defending the character, brilliance and wisdom of Conrad Black. To those people: Where's your messiah now? Moreover: why hasn't the Calgary Herald editorial board resigned yet?

Time to rid Canada of vicious dogs
takeanumber replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree. You have to be one sick **** to do things like that an animal, IMO. I'm not arguing that animals get legal rights etc etc etc I'm just saying, nowhere in the Charter or in the common law does it say that you have the right to abuse an animal for the purpose of abusing it. Doing so does indicate considerable problems. I still think there's something wrong with the breed. -
GOP only talks about 9/11

At least the GOP blames 9-11 and not all arabs for what happened. That's the good part. -
Why Does the Left Lack So Much Class
takeanumber replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Meh. Fight fire with fire. So long as somebody from the extreme right is making blanket statements about everybody on the left, it's only fair to respond with equal amounts of vitriol. BTW: What Lindi England did on her 21st Birthday was very much a conservative thing to do. Are you saying that she wasn't born, bred and raised on a fundamentalist Christian-Conservative town and in such a way. Common, take ownership for the fruits of your blind ideology. ------------------ People who are blind adherants of ideology on the left are just as bad. The shenanigans on both sides in New York are terrible and shameful. -
thx ceemes. I hate to see things go across the border that are unfinished. There's more value and it's better for us in the long run if we export as many finished goods as possible.

**Saskatchewan News**

It's unacecptable. It probably has more to do with band politics. -
The map is gettymandered. (Gerrymandered for those of you who don't live here in Alberta). The densest district is in Calgary, with something like 80,000 voters. The least dense district is way up north, with something like 8 thousand people in it. Most of the people live in Calgary and Edmonton, but they have fewer than half of the seats. The common refrain is that rural areas need more representation, deserve more because they're more virtuous, and any other weak excuse the rightcheous right can think of. In reality, the original right wing conservative, George Brown, believed in one person one vote. I say, if the problem is effective representation (distance in a riding), fine, then boost the number of ridings. But I for one believe in the principle of one person, one vote, and the violation of this principle for any perceived gain just has no legs with me. The PC's and Social Credit before them are guilty of violating this fundamental conservative and Canadian value, and they deserve severe repramand for it. The PC's will win, but only because they control the rural regions.

Sure. If they're fresh off the boat, totally dependant upon their families and community for everything...and they're being, in effect, forced to accept a form arbitration that isn't in their best interests: Absolutely, just because she's muslim doesn't mean she shouldn't be afforded the freedom and protection offered undered our system. But if there's legitimate consent, without duress, by both parties, let them arbitrate how they want. I'm just not convinced that duress isn't present. But I'm more pro-choice on this issue; mainly because the courts oversee the process and make sure no just-off-the-boat bastard men from Northern Nigeria abuse the system. I'll also make it clear here that muslims do not have the 'right' to use sharia law. They have the priveledge only. The combining of religion and law is not in the Canadian liberal tradition, but if it works for them specifically, then fine.

Time to rid Canada of vicious dogs
takeanumber replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think there's a problem with the breed (pitbull). I also believe that some people, you know the people, who treat their dogs really poorly and want them to be viscious to 'guard' their home... I think those ppl ought to be treated as criminals because they're training an animal to kill somebody, and if that dog gets out and mauls a child or an adult, hardcore, that's manslaughter. Better yet, if you're caught abusing an animal like that, you should lose the priveledge of owning an animal...any animal. -
Why Does the Left Lack So Much Class
takeanumber replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The right wing is far more violent. Did somebody say Iraq? Did somebody say Patriot Act? Did somebody say Abu Gharib? Point.Set.Match. -
In theory, it's fine if a woman and a man both want to use Sharia law. I'm pro-choice in that way. The reality might be different though, with some women being pressured by family and friends and the entire community to use Sharia. It seems to me that many people immigrated to Canada to avoid Sharia law. So why should they be subjected to the same pressures that they were back home. So I'm anti-choice in that way.

Time to respect property
takeanumber replied to The Terrible Sweal's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How many times have you beat your wife? The question is pretty biased, IMO. That's my say. -
Yes, Anders is a good example. And yes, people do in fact get elected based on the color of their posters. We ended up electing a federal Liberal as the mayor of the city of Calgary, all because nobody knew much about him, and he had green and blue posters. Hence, he won. Anyway, that's the way it is in Calgary. They all vote conservative so they can wallow in self-pity, whilst they vote very Liberal when it comes to municipal elections. --------------------- Alberta's electoral system is designed so that no party can form the government without winning the rural vote. The map is so incredibly gettymandered, it makes Nova Scotia look pretty good. (And in case you didn't know, N.S. is pretty bad for having freakish seats). Around 30% of the population of Calgary votes, election after election, for parties OTHER than the cons, and the votes are constantly wasted. You never hear consevative elites complain about this form of injustice. You'll on hear them complain about the overall electoral map, arguing they should be allowed to gerrymander more. And several prominent conservatives within the party have actually sat on provincial panels to gettymander the map furthur. True story.

OK now, Time for the GOP Convention
takeanumber replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yup. You arn't supposed to launch pre-emptive wars. The comparison between the Japanese and the Americans are extremely similar. Except the Japanese, when it came to China, were 40,000 worse. In fact, Japanese actions in China make Pearl Harbour seem tame, and make the dropping of the atomic bomb look weak. The US is far more humain, IMO, but yet again, the standard is higher for them. -
Why Does the Left Lack So Much Class
takeanumber replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Why does the Right lack so much class? The shootings of abortion doctors. The bashings of gays in the alleyways and streets. The fire bombings of jewish schools. The blind disrepsect for anybody who has a religion OTHER than fundamentalist protestantism or modern catholocism. What about the constant badgering of Clinton over who sucked his cock? The attacking of McCain for being a PoW...for having a 'black' child. I think it's the right wing that lacks the most class, but if the left keeps it up, they'll be joining the right wing on my shiatlist. -
GOP only talks about 9/11
takeanumber replied to Bushmustgo's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Uh huh. And it's Clinton's fault that the terrorism started up in the first place, right? Well, if you're comparing Clinton to Chamberlain, the Islamists to Nazi's respectively, I think dare say you need to go back to Reagan. Beirut. That was the first blow. Reagan caved in, and failed to show resolve to the terrorists then. And in turn, encouraged thousands of more terrorists to try. Bravo Mr. Reagan Bravo. -
More than likely, the next wave of gettymandering bastards will be the Alliance party. It's not in Alberta's culture for there to be 'democracy'. It's just a series of one party dictatorships that trample on rights in the name of 'majority rights'.
-
That is a poor excuse. I can tell the schools are getting bad in BC when the people it produces type in all caps.
-
Yeh, Quebecois are just like anglos...there are good people and bad people in both. Anglos CAN in fact be very proud of their heritage. If a few Quebeckers want to make fun of that by saying 'what heritage', that just makes them all the more ignorant of the country their living in. But whatever. These problems date back centuries. ------------- Fix the interface between the public and parties, and between parties and the leader. We're stuck with a McDonalist system that doesn't work anymore.
