Did Steve actually say he thought we should go to war in Iraq based on intelligence? I thought it was we must stand shoulder to shoulder with our southern neighbours just because we are neighbours and allies. No intelligent thought there.
-
This is Canada's war, agree with it or not. Public support has slipped, partly imo, because of the partisan way parties deal with it. Steve ran off this weekend as a wag the dog effort; Liberals want a deadline because it serves their political purposes to be different than the Cons and the NDP just want humanitarian efforts there, not combat - at least the NDP are consistent. So Canadian soldiers are doing their level best and are dying over there and the politicians (ALL of them) are playing games at home. This is what is so disgusting about the way our politics have turned.

Steve looked only OK, first day he wore a jacket, an improvement over a fishing vest I must say. So the stylist psychick must have been there. She's probably not too well informed about appropriate wear for a war zone; she should have consulted a made in middle east crystal ball. If she's not even listed as an employee chances are her travel records won't be available. Heck, even all legitimate employees' (as in Ministers) aren't all available.

RCMP Arrest Environment Canada employee
Fortunata replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That's strange because we have not heard of any police presence, questioning or investigation before they all of a sudden showed up with handcuffs. Or has everyone been muzzled? Sure, a message should be sent not to leak anything but what the government wants leaked but this is extreme as only the Steve government shows itself to be. Steve, Baird and other (self) important Ministers could have flown out to Vancouver, say, and announced that measures would be announced on what measures to take in the case of leakers. -
I disagree. The reason Steve is PM right now is because of Liberal actions, not voter trust. Too many scandals, the tipping point being the very public declaration by the RCMP of an investigation into Ralph Goodale. If it hadn't been for that voters would have not gone to the Steve party.

Fixed Election Dates on the Way

While we are in "reform" mode let's go the next step and fix how many terms one person can be Prime Minister. I say two ought to do it. Think Steve would go for that? -
RCMP Arrest Environment Canada employee
Fortunata replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The document should not have been leaked; Steve shouldn't have involved the police. It should have been handled internally as are other internal matters. Smacking a flea with a sledgehammer is so much wrong but that's this government. You gotta wonder though of the collusion of the police; nothing here has been proven not even charges laid, yet .. handcuffs? Had there even been an investigation first? Had the police interviewed people in that office and came to their own conclusion that Monaghan was guilty? Or did the police take Steve's word for it and acted upon outside influence? So many questions, so few answers. -
Fixed Election Dates on the Way

I have no problem with PMs appointing Senators .... except that was Steve's thing... he was only going to appoint elected Senators. He lied. He went back on a campaign promise because it was politically opportune. Who'd a thought Steve would ever do something like that? -

This chappie probably didn't consult with the psychick/stylist long enough and got the message confused. To leak or not to leak ... that was the question. Others have leaked documents from this government but didn't get led away in handcuffs (so heavy handed it's just laughably ridiculous). The Steve government's tactics smack of USSR ploys in so many ways (as has been mentioned here already). Take a good look at the whole clean air thing .... their pitbull stands up and says in no way does our policy indicate we don't support Kyoto while at the same time giving industry the go-ahead to emit more with their intensity based bullshyte? I mean come on people, how can you not laugh at this government? -

Steve does have that constitutional right to appoint Senators. All Prime Ministers do. What's different here is that Steve campaigned on only appointing elected Senators. That was one of his first strikes, the first promise broken - just one of the lies he told to get elected. Under our system Fortier doesn't have to step down from his senate seat until his zillion years are up. We'll see if he does. -
Who funded Harper's campaign? Why isn't the psychick/stylist employee records on record? Why isn't Cannon's chartered executive jet's expenses listed as such? Why aren't Blackburn's travel records showing how much he spent on charters? None of these expenditures are wrong; they could all be justified but for some reason they are ALL hidden. What is Steve trying to hide? If he has nothing to hide, why hide these expenses? It isn't anything to do with the Liberals, NDP, former governments, former Prime Ministers. This is the "NEW" government that promised openness and transparency. So far all we have is an opposition party playing leader... but the Liberals ... when the Liberals were government..... (whine, whine, snivel). Either this government can stand on it's own or it should go back to really being the opposition.

I saw that this morning but I thought it was on Canada AM. I also googled to find nothing on it. -
US/ CANADA :Our interests are inextricably linked
Fortunata replied to marcinmoka's topic in Canada / United States Relations
The USA doesn't protect Canada, it protects itself. In many ways the USA protects itself against Canada, softwood lumber, BSE, wheat, etc. Those of you who think the USA is altruistic enough to "protect" Canada, to "grant" us our sovereignty should educate yourself into how countries really work. -
You read Spanish? My dainty sense of self-worth? Bwahahaha. Obviously my self worth is robust and confident otherwise I might be posting about American topics on an American forum. In fact my self-worth as a Canadian is big enough to include French Canadians who, by the way in case you are not familiar with it, are a "legal" part of this country; French being an "official" language to boot. Why would having a French speaking PM be an insult? Hahahaha, what a guy.
-
After the Liberal government the public learned that transparent accounting needs to be. Obviously Steve hasn't got that through his head, although he did campaign on openness and transparency. People mistrust hidden anythings whether it be agendas, tax funded psychicks, or travel expenses. It makes the government appear to be hiding "bad" things.
-
You are insulted by his national ambitions? You are not even of this nation so I think it is insulting that you would make comment on this. Pretty much the ones who can't understand him don't want to. It's not just his understandability, however, it is his maneuverability that is a problem for me. He needs to be quicker and get the 3 second soundbites down if he wants to do well.

Did Dion vote in French Presidential election?
Fortunata replied to cowtown's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If a PM is a dual citizen it will always be an issue whether his policies and actions serve one country without consideration of the "other" country. Having Dion as PM would be bad enough for the Stevies without the duality. Can you imagine Question Period? Has Steve released an attack ad about this yet? -
I know. That's what I said. It's all about political opportunism.
-
No, I don't live in Vancouver and, if you're right, not everyone I know goes to Tims. I am going to rephrase that, every one of my coworkers and most of my friends in the city in which I live, goes to Tim Hortons. Now that I know that about Vancouver I'm going to have TH withdrawal when I go there.
-
Steve campaigned on honesty and transparency. Get it? .... h o n e s t y & t r a n s p a r e n c y. He also campaigned on MPs having more say and more independence. Is that the way it really is?
-
Anyone who thought Steve had changed his mind about climate change knows now for what it was, political opportunism.
-
They do. They just turn up their noses at people who actually admit to being Tim Horton's customers. OK, that's funny. EVERYONE I know goes to Tim Horton's. I have never heard of it being the right's territory exclusively or any political affiliation or association. What do you smoke to make up stuff like that?

Did Dion vote in French Presidential election?
Fortunata replied to cowtown's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think this issue is trivial. It is apparent that Dion has more than one loyalty and should not ever be PM of this country. He should step down now and let an only Canadian be leader of the Libs. I mean what the hell were the Libs thinking, or did they even know he was a dual citizen? -
This has nothing to do with being Canadian. This has everything to do with our politico's setting systems in place to comply with international agreements. This actually has more to do with NATO ensuring within their operations that the Geneva convention standards are being met. Our soldiers are doing what they are supposed to be doing by handing over prisoners, it is not up to them to ensure proper policy; that's Ottawa's job along with NATO since we are there under the NATO banner.
