The Tyranny of the Left Wing
Fortunata replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Tyranny of the Left?? I thought some here were slightly delusional but now it's become more like paranoia. -
Newsworld had a program on tonight about the Taliban done by an English journalist. He interviewed Taliban, Al Qaeda and a 15 year old suicide bomber recruit. He went on patrol one night with American soldiers in a valley; one soldier said they were supposed to have a full company, about 120, and there were actually about 50 holding this valley against an estimated 1000 fighters, not including the farmers, etc. that picked up their AK's at night to join the fight.

Are Tory Anti-Dion Ads Illegal?
Fortunata replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yep, Steve sure does things different. Our "new" government, same as all the old ones. -
Tories to Run Negative TV Ad Campaign
Fortunata replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You know what I do when any political ad comes on, ANYTIME a political ad comes on? Click. Actually you can pretty well tell who watches them to how brainwashed they come across, and some of you's come across as really brainwashed. -
Tories to Run Negative TV Ad Campaign
Fortunata replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Isn't this just a little unusual and unneccesary since we are not in an election? Has this been done before outside election time? Is Steve and his merry band that insecure? He's already brainwashed all he can (his base); what will this prove? Not one of them can open their mouth without denigrating or blaming the "former" government; is that Prime Ministerial and governmental or what? It's more like grade school mentality and that IS NOT FIT for the governing party. -
If it's clear surely you could provide proof that the lefties have said they want to emulate France? Otherwise you're just making things up. I've seen a couple people here say they would like to see us pull out of the mission we are now on. They could be considered left but it's not a "left" thing. I know a few Conservatives that want to pull out since they don't believe the mission is worth the amount of money we are spending there. Are they left? And why reply with that to a post of mine since I've never advocated pulling out, or are you just trying to steer the conversation away from O'Connor being a little dictator?
-
It's a good excuse anyways. Some people seem to buy into it; but then mostly those people will buy into anything the Steve government says. O'Connor seems to treat Afghanistan as his own little surfdom. If Rick Mercer can get around so should these MPs be able to. Besides, I'd miss Mercer a hell of a lot more should something happen to him than I would any of the MPs.

CPC Jeopardized Canadian Security At Home
Fortunata replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Canadian Navy will not be participating in NATO naval exercises due to budget constraints even though we are hosting? WTH? Defence analyst Steve Staples says navy playing politics to get more money in the next budget. Steve better put our money where his mouth is. He promised arctic sovereignty. He can't do that without ships. The ships can't do that without money. Steve hasn't had a problem spending like a drunken sailor up to this point (i.e. flying out to Vancouver to announce an announcement. What a Liberal thing to do.) http://www.cbc.ca/video/# -
Wasn't it also too dangerous for the Senate committee to even get into Afghanistan on base? Funny how this all works.

CBC reports settlement between government and Arar
Fortunata replied to Melanie_'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I actually haven't attacked this program much. Mostly it speaks for itself .i.e. what you get on the surface is not what you put into your pocket. Other than that how it must gall Steve to utter an apology since the Conservatives were so convicting without proof re: Arar in the beginning. A little humble pie there Steve? But he got his licks in about the Liberals saying this happened under the last government, which indeed it did. But didn't it come out that Zacardelli hadn't briefed the government before Arar was deported? Is Steve inferring that the government should have hands on influence and/or direction over RCMP business? I thought that this was not allowed. Did Steve try to deliberately make something out of what isn't? Is it because Steve does not keep the RCMP business at arms length? So many questions so little answers. -

Twelve point five in final compensation. But truthfully, like the new child care allowance, a goodly portion will be clawed back by taxes. Maybe we should proceed this discussion by the net amount Arar will receive. -
Tory MP accused of emailing 'denigrating' joke
Fortunata replied to Fortunata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh please, you conservatives sure get your tail in a knot when improprieties of your party are aired. I know it's just a joke BUT c'mon even you Cons should get that the head of the Native Affairs Committee shouldn't be sending around a Native joke? What's more inappropriate? I'm sure Natives are going to really believe this guy is working for their good after this. He's lost his credibility. -
How many studies on this do we have to have and pay for?

US from Afghanistan to Iraq
Fortunata replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
US is proposing 9 billion in new funding for Afghanistan; 7 going for civilian assistance and 2 for military. Furthermore Rice says that: .http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/25/nat...n.ap/index.html Nothing is mentioned, however, about either extra troops or withdrawing troops. -

Legalising and Regulating Prostitution
Fortunata replied to BC_chick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I don't disagree with that. Since biblical times, however, women are forced into prostitution for whatever reasons. It does not mean that legalizing and regulating would not help improve their lot over what it is now in Canada? -
PM Hints Energy Cash Safe from Ottawa
Fortunata replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Somehow it is all backwards. Renewable resources should be brought into the equation, after all, the income will be forever generated, or at least for a long time. Non-renewable resources are finite. Provinces should be able to pocket that money in it's entirety for the future as who knows how long it will last. Does this not make sense? -
Harper is not green. Harper needs votes and he's at least smart enough to read the writing on the wall. Of course, if he were really smart, he would have anticipated that writing before Ambrose rolled out that do nothing for years clean air act. But the pit bull is now got the file, he'll no doubt get something going even if he doesn't believe in it.

Legalising and Regulating Prostitution
Fortunata replied to BC_chick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The German government said it was an overzealous employee and that no person would have to take up prostitution as a job. The woman got her unemployment. Really you should tell the whole story instead of just the part you need to make an erroneous point. -
CBC reports settlement between government and Arar
Fortunata replied to Melanie_'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No. They are just like government. Parties forming government, especially minorities, need votes and they would sell out their mothers for a few. Harper is no different, what on earth made you think he would be? Just because he said so? -
CBC reports settlement between government and Arar
Fortunata replied to Melanie_'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I hear that but the fact remains that we pay for what government does or doesn't do. I don't want to pay for RCMP mistakes either; I think the RCMP make too many mistakes. And we end up paying for them all. I hope that oversight committee gets formed quickly and they take a good long hard look at how the RCMP conducts business. So far I'm not impressed. -
Aren't countries supposed to send a formal protest and get it reviewed or something? It will be interesting to hear what Senator Leahy will have to say about this when Gonzales sends the promised info to him. Will the Senator be satisfied with what he reads or will he not?
