lol. sure thing dogonporch. i doubt anyone believes your story. it looks like over 80% of the population of Gorton is "white": http://www.manchester.gov.uk/downloads/Gorton_South.pdf could it be that you're relaying lies and that there are jews who are against israel's occupation? gerald kaufman is one of many jews with holocaust connections who have been speaking against israel's treatment of the palestinians.
-
that's true. it is their right to publish what they want. however, they said they're not against islam and would publish the holocaust cartoons to show that this is about freedom of publication. later on, they went against what they said. i see that you didn't respond to the comparison of the austrian anti-semitic laws to the dutch anti-islamic laws. the difference is that in austria, the law is only for anti-semitic speech and not anything else. whereas in holland, it's an anti-hate law that would also cover jews and other religions. but that's just too honest to say so i understand why you don't want to talk about it.

He said the claim that many of the Palestinian victims were militants "was the reply of the Nazi" and added: "I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants." He accused the Israeli government of seeking "conquest" and added: " They are not simply war criminals, they are fools." those are strong accusations by a holocaust survivor (my mistake: his family member was killed in the holocaust - the point was that the holocaust impacted his life)

Sir Gerald, who was brought up as an orthodox Jew and Zionist, said: "My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town a German soldier shot her dead in her bed. "My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza. The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploits the continuing guilt from gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians." video of his speech: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=qMGuYjt6CP8&eurl=[/b] powerful. more and more jews and israelis are speaking out against israel's atrocities.

can you believe that there are some total idiots who are calling austria a "jewish state" because it has these extreme punishments for someone making anti-semitic comments?

Holocaust denier Irving is jailed British historian David Irving has been found guilty in Vienna of denying the Holocaust of European Jewry and sentenced to three years in prison. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4733820.stm

i don't think the dutch MP should be punished for his islamophobe and racist views. people should have unlimited freedom of speech. at least europe seems to be somewhat balanced and not biased against one religion. i wonder if wheeler will get the same jail time as the british historian who was put in prison in austria for denying the holocaust.

the same paper that ran the original muhammed cartoons refused to run the holocaust cartoons. i've seen them and even though some are anti-semite, most compare the struggle of the palestinians to the holocaust victims. originally, the paper said that they would post cartoons because they believe in freedom of speech, but then went against what they said and refused to publish them.

i doubt gandhi or mandela or chomsky take psychotropic meds.

what complete crap. north american media in general has accepted the israeli government's response that this is all hamas' fault.

why should israel's enemies be our enemies when they have done nothing to us? i don't know how much lower it is. over 400 children were killed in a 3 week assult on gaza. i wouldn't call that a low atrocity. not to mention the thousands who have been injured and the thousands who have lost a family member and who have lost their homes. at the end of all of this, 3 israeli civilians were killed and over 700 palestinian civilians were killed. i would call that a one-sided atrocity.

Israel readies for fight against war crime charges
dub replied to dub's topic in The Rest of the World
israel seems to be in the middle of defending itself against accusations of human rights violation quite often. reminds me of south africa and the apartheid regime. it's too bad that the palestinians do not have a nelson mandela. -
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has put the justice minister in charge of defending Israel against charges of war crimes during its 22-day Gaza assault, a government source said Friday. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon demanded that those responsible for bombing UN buildings in the Palestinian territory should be made accountable and accused Israel of using excessive force. Amnesty International said it was "undeniable" that Israel had used white phosphorus in crowded civilian areas, contrary to international law, charging that this amounted to a war crime. Eight Israeli human rights groups have called on the Israeli government to investigate given the scale of the casualties, describing the number of dead women and children as "terrifying." Gaza medics put the death toll at 1,330 with at least 5,450 wounded. Some 65 percent of the dead were civilians, including 400 children and 100 women. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/18/20090123/twl-i...ar-3cd7efd.html

you have lost all credibility with that statement.
-
eh? are you pretending that you don't understand the function or are you having a bad day and not understanding something this simple? U.S. gives a loan to israel, and then congress forgives these loans. at the end, israel doesn't pay these loans back and instead, the loan is accumulated towards the U.S. deficit. it doesn't get any simpler than this.

i am assuming because that's what they've done for over 20 years. majority of the mullahs who have power, hold interests in many of the biggest companies in iran. from oil to construction companies to financial institution. kind of similar to the U.S. government where cheney benefits from the contracts that are given out by the government. Dictatorships are not necessarily stable... revolutions occur (e.g. Iran has to contend with students who disagree with the government), they get beaten by outside forces, etc. Even if you assume those controlling Iran are interested in their own political power, they may see the use of nuclear weapons as some sort of last defiant act as the leaders loose power. (Not to mention the chance that some within the government may have ulterior motives and may have an interest in supplying arms to others.) interesting thoughts. it is possible that they may use the nuclear weapons as a "last defiant act". who knows what can happen. but these assumptions can be used in many different scenarios involving many different nations. however, it is best to use current and past actions, instead of assumptions of what may happen in the future in order to draw up a conclusion in this manner. On the other hand, Israel is a democracy (and a relatively stable one at that). The leaders are democratically selected (lessening the chance of a religious nut with nihilistic intentions gaining power). And while an individual political party may loose power, there's little risk of the entire system collapsing. this is when we go back to looking at actions that the country has taken. israel is not shy about using its military. they have repeatedly said that all options are on the table. it is quite possible that israel will attack iran and use self-defense as their reason for attacking. however, israel would think twice before attacking a country that has nuclear weapons. so why can't iran protect itself from militarily aggressive states like the U.S. and israel that have weapons pointing at it? many accuse israel of state terrorism. just because a group is defined as state military, it does not mean that their actions are immune to be categorized as terrorism.

they made $1.4 billion in loan guarantees available to israel in 2007. here is something else that you will learn today: THE STRATEGIC FUNCTIONS OF U.S. AID TO ISRAEL By Stephen Zunes Dr. Zunes is an assistant professor in the Department of Politics at the University of San Francisco Since 1992, the U.S. has offered Israel an additional $2 billion annually in loan guarantees. Congressional researchers have disclosed that between 1974 and 1989, $16.4 billion in U.S. military loans were converted to grants and that this was the understanding from the beginning. Indeed, all past U.S. loans to Israel have eventually been forgiven by Congress, which has undoubtedly helped Israel's often-touted claim that they have never defaulted on a U.S. government loan. in other words, any loan given to israel is eventually forgiven.
-
both of you are incorrect. you left out the $1.4 billion in loan guarantees that was also paid. 1/5th of US foreign aid goes to israel. it has been for decades.

Dancer... by your use of Red Cross, it seems like you agree with red cross' statements. are you also willing to accept red cross' other statements about israel in the occupied territories? for example, this: Red Cross: Israel breaking int'l law, letting children starve in Gaza Relief workers said they found four starving children sitting next to their dead mothers and other corpses in a house in a part of Gaza City bombed by Israeli forces, the Red Cross said on Thursday. "This is a shocking incident," said Pierre Wettach, ICRC chief for Israel and the Palestinian territories. "The Israeli military must have been aware of the situation but did not assist the wounded. Neither did they make it possible for us or the Palestinian Red Crescent to assist the wounded," Wettach said. The agency said it believed Israel had breached international humanitarian law in the incident. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1053877.html

HRW says otherwise: Human Rights Watch believes that the use of white phosphorus in densely populated areas of Gaza violates the requirement under international humanitarian law to take all feasible precautions to avoid civilian injury and loss of life. http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2009/01/10/isra...phosphorus-gaza the problem with many of the questionable actions by the IDF is that israel is either not allowing or making it very difficult for many of these organizations to go into gaza and do a proper investigation. you are almost correct about red cross' statement: "In some of the strikes in Gaza it's pretty clear that phosphorus was used," Herby told The Associated Press. "But it's not very unusual to use phosphorus to create smoke or illuminate a target. We have no evidence to suggest it's being used in any other way." then it's followed with: However, Herby said evidence is still limited because of the difficulties of gaining access to Gaza

that's good. you've proven that you can press reply. now if only you had more than just empty responses to show for. if U.S. does not give $4billion a year to israel, then by all means, tell me how much they give to israel.
-
international wanksters to some people like yourself... international law experts, world leaders and organizations like red cross to most others.
-
i don't get it. you just quoted the same thing i did where it mentions that israel had more troops than the arabs, yet you continue to say i'm wrong?
-
according to the international community it does. but according to the israeli government and bush_cheney2004, it doesn't. i wonder if the nazis also disputed that they were committing "bad" things and if they had people justifying and excusing their actions.
-
you have a point. there seems to be a disproportionate attention given to that region while other atrocities are happening around the world. the reason for this, from my point of view, is that our western governments do not support things like, the rwanda genocide, mugabe's dictatorship or hamas' rocket attacks. however, both the U.S. government and more recently, the minority Harper government support israel's actions even though many of israel's actions go against or are questionable when it comes to international law. that's the difference and the reason why the israeli/palestinian issue is such a hot button topic.
