  3. Obama not firm on public health insurance plan WASHINGTON -- The Obama administration's bottom line on a government health insurance option blurred Sunday as White House officials stressed support but stopped of short of calling it a must-have part of an overhaul. The biggest challenge Obama faces in his prime-time address is to take ownership of health care legislation that until now has been shaped by political conflicts in Congress. Lawmakers return this week from a summer break that saw eroding public support for an overhaul and contentious town hall meetings in their districts. On Friday, during a call with prominent liberal House members, Obama refused to be pinned down on the public plan, a participant told The Associated Press. "It was unclear as to whether the public option is on or off the table," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. Independents who helped propel Obama to the presidency are increasingly skeptical about his direction on health care. Obama demonstrates a classic example of failure in leadership. By his desire to "reach out" to his enemies, to make concessions and find common ground, he gives up the very change agenda he won his presidency on. What we got here is no change at all. Also seems that in a US democracy, he who shouts loudest wins the debate. The townhall mobs have had their effect on the American psyche, and Obamas. Well, at least he's a good dancer.
  4. You may be right. His return to Canada does not mean so much to me, as his prosecution. That's what irks me... imprisonment for years without due process. That sounds like something they might do in Iran or Kenya, or some other nasty place. Because when we fight to enforce due process on prisoners, we fight for our own freedom and democracy.
  5. I wouldn't say vast majority, but in any case it doesn't matter about the comments section. Most of the comments seem ill informed. Personally I don't think its important to bring him back to Canada, but that he face justice, somewhere, and bring this matter to a conclusion! Since that hasn't happened in 7 years, it's reasonable to conclude that something is wrong: either there is no case or there is some other legal problem preventing it. My preference would be to have the trial in Guantanamo Bay. But doesn't look like that will happen. Worst case scenario- that terrorists are returned to their country of origin, without charges being laid, to receive a heros welcome.
  6. I would say, there is no justice in letting a person remain in jail for so long without a proper trial. The concept of justice is become a mockery.
  7. The appeal to the supreme court of Canada is coming up- SCC will hear appeal of Khadr return order Canada's top court will hear the federal government's appeal of a court ruling that ordered it to seek the repatriation of Omar Khadr, a Canadian citizen who has been held at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for nearly seven years. --- Seven years in a prison without a full trial? Now look, if he's guilty I'm all for pursuing the law, but to leave people languishing in jail for years without proving their guilt in a proper court, well that just shocks my conscience. This government is obviously playing politics with the case, trying to delay the inevitable and hoping for another way out. If the case attracts a high level of public interest it will damage the CPC... especially if during an election. Well, that could be a form of justice.
  8. Economies are living entities. And we have made our economy, very angry. Here's why- "I'll tell you what happened, son. See, there's a bunch of idiots out there who weren't happy with what they had. They wanted a bigger house and materialistic things that they didn't even need. People with no money, who got loans to buy frivolous things they had no business buying... and these assholes just blindly started buying any stupid thing that looked appealing 'cause they thought money was endless... And the idiots couldn't see that by doing all this frivolous spending, they were mocking the economy! And they made the economy very angry. We're all feeling the economy's vengeance because of materialistic heathens who did stupid things with their money. Do you understand, son?" --- But as Shady says, maybe the economy just needs to take a little vacation, and then when it comes back feeling all refreshed it will be ready to forgive us. "To repent we must stop frivolous spending! Instead of paying for cable let us watch clouds! Instead of buying clothes, wear but sheets from thine beds! Cut spending to only the bare essentials! Water and bread and margaritas, yea."

  10. I agree completely that this government must be heavily punished, anytime they fail to live up to their obligations to the people of Canada. The money part seems questionable, but what else can she do that would really get anyones attention to this problem. Whats right is that Lawrence Cannon should be booted out of office for making misinformed statements, and being incompetent. And maybe some others should be canned too. If you want an effective government that can do its job, then this is what needs to be done. NOT, giving someone another handout of hush money, and then pretending no one did anything wrong!
  11. Seems like propaganda to me. But the economy does respond to propaganda, so they are always trying to inspire "confidence" in some way. How odd though when all we heard just a few months ago was that this would be a long slog, perhaps years before there is recovery. In the end its just a vicious circle, if consumers do not pick up their spending. Thats the bottom line, without which the economy is dead. They may inject their stimulus all they want, but if consumers don't join in there will be no lasting recovery. And there is not much to indicate that this has changed. Consumers, which are mostly middle class, are the first to take the hits when the economy falls, but last to get the benefits when it picks up again. Thats why the money has always gone in one direction.
  12. "Ignatieff calls it" I predict it will be another nail in his political coffin. Liberals are grandstanding on this election. There really is no serious current issue that the Canadian public wants to address in a vote, meaning, that another party would be better at. For Ignatieff, it's an election of convenience. Not that I want to see Stephen Harper and his gang stay power any longer. The neocon ideology is dead and needs a good burial... but not to be replaced with an almost identical, neoliberal ideology.
  13. Ok, so long as I don't have to also wear the rope around my neck... lol which is, capitalism...
  14. And what was the quote again? Oh yeah, "Economics trumps virtue"...
  15. This shows our true colours too. Because, a convicted terrorist and mass murderer was released, just for the money. They did it to seal the deal, to make the handshake. And in the islamic countries, it proves that the west is easy to deal with. Just offer some money or some oil, and they will sell their own mothers... Thats what the cheering was all about, because this man proves it. It is of greater value to the muslim propagandists if he's actually guilty, than if he's innocent. It proves the west is a whore that will sell anything, even supposedly its most cherished values, anything, for the money.
  16. Yeah thats kind of a show stopper, eh? All the blah blah blah about security and laws, and justice. Protecting freedoms and all that. I all ain't worth a piece of coon sh*t, when it comes to making deals like this. Specially stuff like OIL. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32615750/ns/world_news-europe That is why the fascist regime (west) must ultimately sell out its own grandmother, and, soul.
  17. Really? I've never heard that comparison made before. I read their main page, along with cnn just about daily. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/

  20. Canada is a tolerant society, and should allow muslims to live in our country, but not be able to change our laws. Certain laws should be protected at all times, by absolute rule, regardless of the culture. For the same reason muslim women must also be protected, by law, from violence upon them by muslim males.
  21. Ahem! Ahem! Choke! When you find such a real religion, please share. I assume it would be one, without human beings...
  22. Obama receives as many as 30 death threats a day, 400 per cent more than those made against his predecessor, George W. Bush. As the article states. Why cans't Johnny read? The man was also waving a sign that read "It Is Time To Water The Tree of Liberty," a reference to the Thomas Jefferson quote: "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Sounds like a death threat, Johnny
  23. Yes it is, and the problem is exacerbated by inflammatory statements from GOP politicians- Jillson says top Republicans are stoking some of the anger by making statements about Obama's health-care reform plans that are "demonstrably untrue." He pointed to Sarah Palin's recent Facebook message that alleged White House "death squads" would endanger the life of her disabled infant son. "Any time you whip up people's emotions in a political setting, the result of that is uncertain and uncontrollable," he said. "The Republican party is on a knife's edge here." American politics is mentally ill. The people are borderline psychotics... they are all on drugs and force fed by hyper- sensationalist media. Now add to the mixture a financial meltdown, huge losses of jobs and life savings, and a black president who wants to "level the playing field", and you have a bomb waiting to go off.
  24. I would not expect that, it's too simple a model. Another way to look at it could be, if 90% of the people who committed rape are from the poor or lowest educated parts of society, and blacks comprise 50% of that... you now have a fundamentally different demographic. Theres many ways to analyze the data and draw conclusions, some can be quite misleading. In other words, there's lies, damn lies and theres statistics. And then there's your posts...
  25. I know. It's a personal pun... my employer uses that line in every email whenever there is a request to do something, like improve moral, get a water cooler installed. etc. Then we're told, "You're welcome to come upstairs to the admin area, and use our water cooler... "
