?????? Please don't fool yourself. Over 51% of Canadians still voted for a left leaning party in this election. This leads me to believe that with the right leader, and a united left, Canada would be led by a left leaning government again. I would also say it's a pretty sure bet that Harper's increase in Ontario had more to do with our complete rejection of Dion as Leader, and the 'apparent' fallacy that the NDP could lead the country, than any real belief that we support Harper or his ideals. I can also almost guarantee that another election caused by Harper or the Libs anytime in the near future would not lead to gains for EITHER party.

If the Liberals get in, what should the west do?
CrazeeEddie replied to TCCK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As someone from Ontario, who has been paying these bills much longer than the west, I think supporting the rest of my nation is rather patriotic, but go on about the NEWFOUND wealth out west. Yes, giving a province with less population than one city in Ontario the same amount of say is very democratic. So basically, 7.5 million or so Ontarians votes don't matter to you? They don't count? That's some idea of Democracy you have. Perhaps you should convince more of the population to move OUT of Ontario, then we really could even out regional inequities... Thank God for that.... -
"Prime Minister Dion Loses Something In Translation"
CrazeeEddie replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
First off, I agree with you. Dion's english issues are fair game. However, for a party trying to gain a foothold in Quebec, just doesn't seem smart. Second, what exactly was Harper's disability? -

Nobody is getting a majority. However, this split on the left needs to be repaired, and soon. A united left would spell the end of Harper. -

CrazeeEddie replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You say 'losing' as if it was a clear cut majority. It seems to me that the polls indicate more and more that this election could be closer than ever. And while I do not count myself among them, I think you will see many Ontarians threatening to vote NDP or CPC switch back to their red shirts come Tuesday night. The fact is, at least amongst those I have spoken with (which is many), many in Ontario do not feel that the CPC represents them at all.. -
"Prime Minister Dion Loses Something In Translation"
CrazeeEddie replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I personally don't believe that Harper or the CPC have my children's best interests at heart, and disagree with many CPC beliefs. So yes, it would be selling out. I'm also not thoroughly convinced (read, totally unconvinced) that Harper is the saviour for our economy you seem to think he is. I agree, I don't think Dion is a great leader. However, I do think the Liberal Party as a whole does a much better job with my country. And yes, it IS a team effort by the way. Either way, Harper is not the only alternative to Dion. Harper? Oh yeah, we can trust him. He never goes back on his word PS- Dion hasn't.... last I checked, he's never been the PM, so he couldn't have.... So what you're saying is, no matter Liberal or Conservative, we're screwed? Good thing I can vote Green, NDP, Marijuana Party, Canadian Action Party, etc eh? I have a feeling our answers would differ here. Why should I believe Harper is, because you say so? Yup, because you can tell the future. Scare tactics aren't going to work here. Our economy is NOT THAT STRONG, and is very connected to the US. Do you honestly believe that if the US Economy fails, Harper will pull ours out of the fire? Now who's being naive. LOL, is that what we call it now..... I call it lying personally. Yet... Thanks in large part to the Liberals and Mr Paul Martin... Outside of Alberta, how many? I know here in Ontario, jobs are FLYING OUT THE WINDOW. Oh but wait, I can still work at McDonald's, or a call center, for $9 an hour. Thus far, what you've provided me is your opinion of what he COULD do. What I have seen is someone who hides from accountability and the people, gives money to those who need it least, still believes that trickle down economy works, cares very little about a province that houses nearly 40% of the population of this country, has done nothing to stem the tide of decent paying jobs leaving, and being replaced with minimum wage employment opportunities, lies about Senate positions, bribes officials after complaining when another party does it, complains about dirty tactics while engaging in them himself..... need I go on? And you are entitled to that... however, I am unwavering in my support of anyone but him. And no, I am not voting for Dion. At the start of the election, I was unclear, however, I think it's fairly clear by now where I stand. -
Did you start this thread just to type the name Dion in a negative connotation again? There are plenty of threads discussing this already.

Really makes you wonder what will actually happen come election day....

Doesn't anyone care Dion has dual nationality?
CrazeeEddie replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Perhaps it is a rule of your regiment them? My Grandfather is Irish/ Canadian dual... served in the military for 15 years... My Father in law is Scottish/ Canadian dual.... served 5 years I think? (He rambles, don't know the exact number) -

Leave them alone... some Harper supporters have no idea how government works. He hasn't scripted that press conference yet.... -

I'm gonna guess by the quotations that he/ she didn't, the author of the article did, and they also stated very clearly that it was based on an article in the Globe and Mail. -
"Prime Minister Dion Loses Something In Translation"
CrazeeEddie replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So we should sell out our values, and vote for Harper because YOU say he's a better leader? He has broken one promise after another. I can't afford to fill my tank, heat my house, buy a loaf of bread, or put my kids through school, but hey at least I save 2 cents on my bottle of coke right? And no, we don't know what to expect from Harper, he says one thing, and does another, CONSTANTLY. I do agree however, if you don't believe Dion can lead, don't vote for him. Vote for Layton..... -
"Prime Minister Dion Loses Something In Translation"
CrazeeEddie replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So while Dion is making all these decisions by himself because he misunderstood, where are his translators? Hell, where is Parliament, the opposition, the media? Or do you honestly believe that all decisions are made spur of the moment by the PM, and automatically put into motion. Look, I understand that in the time Mr. Harper has been in government, we've had very little transparency and understanding of how the government works, but I can assure you this would never happen.. I can't believe that people that think like this actually run our country. -
Why Harper won't get a majority, and why it matters
CrazeeEddie replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
While I am not a Conservative, I agree that this is where they need to go. Much as Harper is not Mulroney, Dion is not Chretien. Most people from Ontario east know this, and this is arguably where the Harper crew needs to start garnering votes. -
Harper accepts gift of fancy cowboy boots from Bush
CrazeeEddie replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yup, because nobody could possibly have a legitimate beef with Harper. Now other than the usual 'our screw ups arent important' bs, do you have anything to contradict what they are claiming? Otherwise, this seems like another excellent case of Harper and 'do as I say, not as I do' -

The Difference between a Liberal and Conservative
CrazeeEddie replied to lukin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Spoken from TRUE IGNORANCE. tell me, without the programs, how would I have gotten the money to get shelter? How many homeless people have you hired recently? Without those programs, I would still have nothing. I agree, not ALL conservatives are heartless. However, the majority of Liberals UNDERSTAND that most people on assistance are not there because they WANT to be. They're not there because they're lazy. In fact, many are working TWO JOBS, and still receiving assistance. As with all systems (like rich folk and taxes), there will always be cheats. Yes, I did survive because I WANTED to, but without that helping hand, I can guarantee you I would never have been able to. Until you've been down that road, you cannot even pretend to comprehend. And to think that just because you have more, you've worked harder, is nothing but pure arrogance and ignorance. -
The Difference between a Liberal and Conservative

Yes, my jealousy is shining through in the fact that I myself have earned a decent living from absolutely nothing, but based on this story, Paris has worked harder than you, or I to get what she has. -
The Difference between a Liberal and Conservative
CrazeeEddie replied to lukin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
WRONG... The gist of the story is that anyone who has money obviously has worked hard to earn it, and anyone who does not, is obviously lazy and does not deserve help. As someone who has A) Been homeless, Been unemployed, and C) Been on welfare, someone who is now his own boss, with his own home, supporting his own family, I can honestly say that this view makes me want to puke. Without these programs, I may very well be dead. Thanks to a MAJORITY (read, NOT Conservative) of Canadians, the world's most compassionate people, I was given another chance. I made the most of it, and I think you'd find that many others would as well. Of course, it's easy to spit on those below you if you've never walked in their shoes. While many Conservatives use religion to their own means, I assure you, many are not Christian... -
The Difference between a Liberal and Conservative

I really hope that not all conservatives are as selfish and ignorant (and obviously blind to the real world) as yourself. Of course everyone who has lots of money worked really hard for it, ask Paris Hilton.... -
In only one section in this whole diatribe does he touch the GST vs Income Tax, and even then, does not provide any numbers as to how the Income Tax cut would save the average person. However, I did notice mention of how cutting the GST was making the tax break more 'even' between the middle class and low income class. Now which group do you suppose needs it more? I also noticed mention of how the two results that showed that GST would not save more did not assume that these savings would be passed on in lower pricing. Care to explain to me exactly what prices have gone DOWN in products that matter most to lower class Canadians?

Harper's conservatives and democracy
CrazeeEddie replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why is it that anytime anybody criticizes Harper, they have gone overboard? Why is it that the right seems so capable of dishing, yet has so much trouble swallowing the fact that Harper is not perfect, and that not all Canadians (in fact, a minority of them) actually share this man's views? Perhaps he pleaded on the advice of his lawyer that, being a Canadian citizen, he would be granted clemency when his government stepped in? How do you know what actually happened? Were you there? -
Harper accused of plagiarizing Harris speech
CrazeeEddie replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Has he now? Care to share how? And improvements by ensuring that only questions he preapproves get asked, by avoiding media scrums.... shall I go on? So instead, he conveniently chooses to call an election when the chance of a majority arises. Odd how that worked out eh? Any way you stretch it, it was political opportunism, something he criticized the Liberal government for. Then why campaign like it was such a crime when Belinda did it? Back then it was argued that people not only voted for the person, but also the party. It was argued that Belinda should run in a by-election. Agreed, however, once again, Harper campaigned against 'assigning' Senate members, and then did so himself. Except that there really is no reason to believe anything this man says.
