First of all - I apologize if I offended you or any other member of the board with my rhetoric. I did not mean to make you angry. You are correct, Ukrainian government is as anti-Russian as can be. But this government represens maybe a bit more than half of the people of Ukraine. Timoshenko, the Prime Minister ("Orange Princess") sympathizes with Russia more now. About the split - look at the vote results (Yuschenko vs Yanukovich). You are correct again. But Russia does not intend on annexing or destroying Georgia. Just helps the break-away regions to achieve self-determination and disarms Georgian military. I have not accused you of anything. Unlike most Americans or Canadians you actually do give a damn about what's happening in other countries, so I respect you. Your government (if you are a US citizen) and Israel have armed and trained Georgian military knowing that their prime targets will be South Ossetia and Abkhazia. There are unconfirmed reports of non-Georgian (afroamerican) mercenaries within the Georgian military participating in the slaughter of civilians. Again, I didn't mean to offend you personally or the American people in general - a great nation that all in all has done the most for humanity's progress in the last 200 years: Cars, Radio, Computers, Internet etc. -

OK, I get your point. And as you said before, "Morals mean nothing"... "Democratically Elected Government" of Georgia commits genocide - CHECK Russia defends their citizens from being slaughtered and then disarms the aggressor - BEEP!!! As for the rest of the world hating Russia more than US... you probably haven't travelled a lot lately... or do not read news in other languages... The only country in the world that is hated MORE than US is Israel. The rest of the countries are hated less... -
If you talk about post-Soviet Russia, then you are almost right - it didn't have a chance to do anything major before Georgia. If you're talking about Soviet Union than you are wrong. USSR did a hell of a lot (but for sure not as much as US) for the republics within it and for some countries outside. In the beginning of USSR history the middle-eastern republics were in not much better shape than Afganistan is now. Russia built countries out of them - with complete infrastructure (that the Indian "Democracy" doesn't have and will not have for a while). And, if US wouldn't have interfered, would have built a "Socialist" country out of Afganistan, which would be light-years ahead of Taliban rule that US led it to.

Russia is pretty damned far from paradise... but it's still a better place to live than many post-USSR republics. I think I understand your general opinion about Russia, BC2004. You have expressed it multiple times in multiple threads. Let me ask you this - let's say I agree with you that Russia is a "has-been" power and a "wannabe but am not" and not a "true democracy" etc. Why do you still bash it for something it finally did right (or as close to "Right" as Russia can)? -
I would agree with you, honestly. Nobody likes genocide or tyrants. I would agree if US would go in just to help the people of these countries have a choice (life or death, slavery or freedom). But that was not the primary reason for bombings and invasion. In Serbia it was political and military control, in Afganistan, Iraq and Georgia it is OIL. I do accept that a side-effect of US invading other countries MAY BE "Democracy". But you can be certain that the US "Democracy" recipie will NEVER work in Afganistan or Iraq as these are Muslim countries with a completely different mentality. What did US do for Iraq? Create a dictator, remove a dictator, create endless blodshed. If US would TRULY be interested in human rights abroad, they would have intervened in Rwanda to stop the butchering. They would have maybe introduced military into Somalia to help create some form of government. I'm sure there's tons of little countries like Haiti that would have loved to JOIN US. But there's no oil, no strategic advantage to these places...

It is hard to accept the facts when you're being told different in the newpapers, on radio and on TV by no other than your beloved leader, isn't it? And to think that noone really tried speaking openly about 9/11... Talk about brainwashing...

Nice steps... Take a Hitler-style crazed leader into NATO... I'm sure everyone in Europe will be happy about that Ukraine will split in two before it joins NATO. The whole Eastern Ukraine speaks mostly Russian and does not consider US-sponsored Yuschenko their leader. Moreover, the PM Timoshenko is now more leaning towards Russia, and a Ukrainian Parliamentary Commission that will investigate the sale of arms (up to 100 tanks) to Georgia - these weapons were used to kill civilians. What can US do? They've already said all the bad words... purposely ignored and misrepresented the facts... didn't help. Now they can suck it down, for the first time in a long while -

The cynical use of numbers doesn't even begin to describe what happened. Your home town being bombed for 2 months would probably help understanding. But since you like using numbers, so far: - Saakashvili and his military killed around 2,000 civilians and soldiers - Russian troops killed a reported 200 soldiers and civilians It is hard to realize your country and allies are perceived as invaders and murderers by other countries. Could it be because it starts wars and kills civilians everywhere in the world? Hmmmm.... -
Oh boy... See, there's a problem with North Americans understanding what it is to be at war as they have not fought a real enemy on their land... Russia prevented Genghis Khan from rolling over Europe. Russia defeated the Ottoman Empire in Europe. USSR defeated the Faschist Germany in Europe. And, believe it or not, fought Japanese in Mongolia and China. So... Hmmmm... Again, I'm at a loss... It is understandable that the knowledge of Eurasian history is lesser on this side of Atlantic (and Pacific). But why the hate?

And we all know that Harper is far more loyal to Bush than to Canadian people. LOL And I suggest that Bush should be removed from his office and placed in a zoo cage with fellow chimps. BTW, Sochi is in Caucasus and is a beautiful place... -

I wouldn't be surprised if there will be more provocations from Georgia. Saakashvili commited a crime against humanity and lost the war so now he desperately needs something to make Russia look bad. -

Such hateful words... Have Russians killed your family? Noone has conquered Russia since Genghis Khan. The French, German, Polish took or got near to Moscow but all were defeated. Unlike western countries - England, France, Spain, Portugal, US, etc. - Russia has never invaded far away counries - it has enough land. And besides - quite the opposite of what you said is true - Georgian troops are drunk and shooting at reporters and civilians. -
You may have misunderstood what was said. Russia merely wants the people of Poland to know that if before their country was not on the list of Russia's potential nuclear targets - now it is.

I guess the western propaganda works no worse than the soviet did -
If Western Europe indeed has friendly intentions in its relations with Russia the missle shield should not be BETWEEN them. It should be on whatever side of their combined territories there's danger.

And US is so used to unchecked world domination in the last 2 decades that when a country finally stood up to them, accused them of arming and protecting a president that commited genocide, they have to resort to misrepresentation of the facts and even disinformation and the whole western world feels obligated to join in on that. This reminds somehow of a lion and a pack of hyenas - very democratic -

I agree in principle. But you also have to agree there's a problem in the Western Alliance with one powerful country attacking a weak country with no regard to international laws and agreements, disregarding the decisions of UN, protests from other countries, and inciting other members of the alliance to join in. -

Another example of Saakashvili's desinformation. Russia has no interest in destroying infrastructure - it is to expensive to rebuild.
