Open warfare in South Ossetia
PoliticalCitizen replied to moderateamericain's topic in The Rest of the World
I do sympathize with all the people affected by that war. But if you live in North America you cannot be blind to Georgia's case being trumpeted all over the news and Russia being painted an aggressor. It is also hard not to notice that US administration avoids even pronouncing the word "Ossetian" at all costs. And yes I know Ossetians are no angels and there have been ethnic cleansings on both sides prior to the conflict. -
I admit I may be lacking in that area. Please, share.

I have to admit that for an army guy your argument is quite eloquent: As far as I know US was never invaded by any other country. 300, to be exact. Russia stretched their forces thin and they could not go on invading Europe Russia and Austria defeated the Ottoman Empire (I hope you're familiar with that term). In case your history classes skipped this "detail", check any source on the web, for example Encyclopedia Britannica: "In consequence the Ottoman Empire fought intermittent wars with its European enemies during the period between the second siege of Vienna (1683) and the Treaty of Jassy (1792). From 1683 to 1699 it fought the armies of the Holy League in a disastrous war that culminated in the Treaty of Carlowitz (1699). In 1710–11 it fought Russia again, and at the Treaty of the Pruth (1711) it regained some territories previously lost. The war of 1714–18 with Venice and Austria was concluded by the Treaty of Passarowitz (1718); and three wars with Russia and Austria, in 1736–39, 1768–74, and 1787–92, culminated in the treaties of Belgrade (1739), Küçük Kaynarca (1774), and Jassy (1792). As a result of these wars, the Ottomans lost Hungary, the Banat of Temesvár region, Transylvania, and Bukovina, establishing their European boundary on the Danube, where it had been early in the 16th century. By 1812 the Ottomans had lost all their possessions on the northern coast of the Black Sea, from the Romanian principalities to the Caucasus, including Bessarabia, southern Ukraine, and the Crimea (the soldiers of which had provided the strongest element in the Ottoman army during the 17th century). In addition, the Ottomans were compelled to allow the Russians and Austrians to intervene legally on behalf of the sultan’s Christian subjects, increasing European influence in internal Ottoman affairs." Well, believe it or not, history books are written in a different way by each country. I'm sure yours said "US and allies won WW2" Ukraine, for example, started re-writing its history books right after the "Orange Revolution". Did they teach you it was a Hydrogen bomb? Oh my... It began here (Wikipedia): "The Battle of Khalkhyn Gol (Russian: бои на реке Халхин-Гол; Mongolian: Халхын голын байлдаан; Japanese: ノモンハン事件 Nomonhan jiken--i.e. Nomonhan Incident) was the decisive engagement of the undeclared Soviet-Japanese Border War, or Japanese-Soviet War, fought between the Soviet Union and the Empire of Japan in 1939. " US gave us the biggest weapon of mass destruction (did they ever find those in Iraq? ) As is the history of any country formed more than 200 some years ago. LOL After so many years you still can't accept the loss... Guess what - China is number 3 but I bet it will go way beyond just putting their flag on the Moon - they'll start mining it right away I have to admit that your lack of knowledge of another country's culture can be used as an excuse here. It is only understandable, after all... Cold war takes 2 to happen, just like an arms race Wikipedia: Karl Heinrich Marx (May 5, 1818, Trier, then part of Prussian Rhineland – March 14, 1883, London) was an immensely influential German philosopher, political economist, and socialist revolutionary. The intent of this thread was not to bash US or Russia. Both countries and peoples deserve respect. Their governmens, however, are a different story...

The problem is US Government never openly admitted what we all saw and read on the internet about the "plane" that crashed into Pentagon etc. Reminds me of Soviet press...

I appreciate you sharing your point of view on my posts and on Russia in general. I am pretty sure that your words reflect the general position of North America towards Russia. I don't believe I'm wasting my time - I'm trying to give an alternative view on things to my fellow Canadians and US members of the board. BTW, since you mentioned Slavic nations - Bosnians, Poles and Ukrainians are Slav too. Some of them love to play victims... I sincerely hope Russia will not use force in its relations with Ukraine or any other former USSR republics. Moldova also has a Russian-speaking unrecognized breakaway region of Transdniestria that has enjoyed a de-facto independence. I hope their struggle for independence doesn't lead to confrontation or military actions. -

US gave Georgia money to buy Russian crap because American crap is too expensive (and probably not better anyway ). The link below highlights Georgia's military spending: http://www.tiraspoltimes.com/news/arms_bui...th_ossetia.html Israel has outfitted the T72 tanks with night-vision systems and supplied Georgia with unmanned aircraft drones. http://www.thebulletin.us/site/index.cfm?n...76361&rfi=8 "The Israelis ought to be proud of the fact that Georgian soldiers received Israeli education and training and are fighting like I don't know what," said another Georgian cabinet minister, Temur Yakobashvili, in an interview with the Israeli media. -

If you are truly Georgian (Gruzin) than I am sorry for what happened to your country... No matter whose fault it was, the people always suffer... I hope your relatives are fine. I am also originally from a republic that was split into multiple parts - Moldova. We had a small-scale civil war, I hope that doesn't happen again. -

Except the Czech and Slovak did not try exterminating the German population. -
KURSK/GORI (Reuters) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev promised on Monday a "crushing response" to any attack on its citizens as Georgia waited for concrete signs of a promised Russian military pullout. Medvedev was speaking shortly before Russian military authorities announced that the withdrawal had begun, although Georgia denied this. "If anyone thinks that they can kill our citizens and escape unpunished, we will never allow this," Medvedev told World War Two veterans in the Russian city of Kursk. "If anyone tries this again, we will come out with a crushing response." "We have all the necessary resources, political, economic and military. If anyone had any illusions about this, they have to abandon them."

Will Russia be kicked out of the G8?
PoliticalCitizen replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
If Georgia would give South Ossetians the right to self-determination that they deserved Russia would have no reason to offer them Russian citizenship. -
I don't hate US and there are many good things and bad things that they've done. Soviet Union, whether you know it or don't, has done a lot of the same. I'm not going to talk about Islam as this is way outside the topic.

Will Russia be kicked out of the G8?
PoliticalCitizen replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
You have some valid points but a country is way beyond "Good Will" and "Aspiration" when its citizens are being mass murdered. BTW, is China cool in US's books? The worst human rights record out of all the developed coutries AND not even calling itself a "Democracy". -
Just because it is radically different from what you've been brought up with doesn't make it nonsense. It is not my opinion, I read some books written by former spies - but I cannot point you to a website to prove my point, so let's each keep our view on things. As to the failures - they were not clairvoyants, just very motivated spies. And if you want the best at brute force - Mossad is #1 here too

Just translate and post the question on a Serbian or Iraqi discussion forum (I'm not sure if Iraq has internet or forums) and see what people will tell you.

Why do you wish to attack me personally? I am not here to be attacked, to defend myself or to attack others, I hope you're not either. If you want to provide input on the topics we're discussing - please. A 12 year old has little patience and capacity to look for arguments to prove his point and starts attacking the opponent personally. If your question is genuine I will answer: Yes, life is better in Canada than in any former USSR republics that I know of. Yes, I believe Canada is very dependent on US in ALL regards. Canada's foreign policy was OK in my book until we decided to bomb Serbia. I disagree with you that the "posh lifestyle" is a result of the foreign policy. On the opposite, US attacking left and right is one of the factors that brought our collective economy down. Now please try to stay on the topic without personal attacks or I'll ignore your posts. -
Well, at least you're open to the idea that there may be movies that are not made in Hollywood ( ), which is already not that bad Rosenbergs, who were not even Russian, stole the atomic bomb for USSR (and were then executed in a "Democratic" way by US). I wonder why they've done that? Were they not blessed by the American Freedom? What do you think? KGB was by far the best intelligence agency until Mossad came along.
-
BTW, I just watched "Hang'em High" with Clint Eastwood and I think I understand better the roots of Bush's foreign policy

Quote me a single phrase coming from US administration where they mention doubts about the official story.

More hate speech... Read my other posts and you'll see what opinion is on US (where I do NOT live), Canada (where I DO), Russia (where I never lived) and USSR (where I did). As I told other members of this board - resorting to personal attacks and name-calling are arguments of a 12 year old. RESPECT the members of this board... or be a troll. -

Wikipedia: Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group. Tell me which part of this is unapplicable to Georgia's attack on South Ossetia. -

US government's encouragement and promise of NATO membership undoubtedly emboldened Georgian suicidal leader to commit the attack. -

LOL Russia remains quite racist in general... there are almost no black people (why would they immigrate to Russia?) in Russia or any of its immediate neigbors... Soviets didn't use black people as slaves. Theys used their own peoples for that purpose. -

Agreed. It could be a lie altogether. But US arming and training Georgian military is not.
