The law only considers a combatant a child soldier if they are under the age of fifteen. Human Rights Watch, a Leftist organization, considers anyone under the age of eighteen a child soldier. One only has to been sixteen to join the Canadian Forces under the Regular Officer Training Program; by their standards, Canada is guilty of employing child soldiers. I too must have been a child soldier because I was actively involved with the FLQ problem in 1964/65 as a seventeen-year-old private serving with the Black Watch.

Most of the suicides that I am aware of during my period of service were the result of marital problems, breaking up with girlfriends, or members getting themselves into serious trouble due to theft or embezzlement. The war in the Balkans was every bit as dangerous as Afghanistan and the suicide rate was probably no different from that of the civilian population. For this war, the Canadian military actually went out of it way to hired experts that deal with post traumatic stress disorder to help soldiers deal with the stress of combat.

The Quiet Revolution in the 1960's ended it. People who work at jobs that serve the public have no right to force their religious values on other individuals. That is exactly what they are doing when another employee has to stop what it is doing to cover for a Muslim. I have also served in the Middle East and the last thing I want to see is our society dragged down to the level of theirs. At present our Muslim population is small compared to European countries, once the Muslim population starts to approach 10 percent we will experience the same violent rioting the Europeans have had to deal with these past few years. Forty years ago, Lebanon was a predominantly Christian nation and the jewel of the Middle East, it is not any longer thanks to its Muslim population. Fourteen hundred years ago, every nation bordering on the Mediterranean was Christian thanks to Muslim marauders most of them are not today. You nailed it, Muslims are a problem because Islam is not a religion, it is a political ideology that will not accept assimilation or compromise. They have been nothing but a problem since Islam was founded in the 7th century.

I've voted Liberal in every federal election since I was first allow to vote as an underage serviceman in 1966, but intend voting Conservative in the next election because the Liberal Party of Canada is becoming too much like the NDP. The mainstream media in both Canada and the U.S. is biased towards the Left; there has not been honest reporting in either country for nearly forty years. This probably accounts for why readership and listening polls have shown a deep decline in their audiences. On the positive side is the fact that voters between the ages of eighteen and thirty in both countries are more conservative than their parents. This, combined with the older vote, should keep the Conservative in power for at least ten years. The Liberals threw away the opportunity of electing a moderate right-of-centre leader thanks to Gerard Kennedy and Bob Rae and will pay the price in the next election. Stéphane Dion is, at best, a mediocre leader.
