The party that produced those ads, can you recall the name of the final leader of it and the deal he made with the party which he merged it in with?Peter McKay and Harper's Reform Party in case it slipped your memory. The Conservatives would have you believe they're the old Progressive Conservatives though rather than the Reform party or they'd have kept the Reformed Alliance name. Hence the ad is indeed relevant to the discussion.

Hey Argus, remember this classic ad? Good times eh?

Did I miss something or was that just announced today then? The Don Valley West by-election? Because the Conservative candidate for Don Valley West, John Carmichael has been advertising / election campaigning on the Fan590 and 1010 CFRB with radio spots promoting him in the upcoming election for the past few, 3 at least, weeks already. I thought there were rules against that?

Fair enough but at what point do we focus more on the current government's actions and concentrate on having accountability start here, now with the present corrupt government than reminding previous governments of their mistakes and forcing them to constantly apologize and pay for it.I'm all for your idea in principle but it should start and concentrate on those currently in office. Agreed but again, let's concentrate on the here and now first. Get the current house in order and then go after anyone from the past who may have benefited from abusing their position for their own private gains. A thread of which was started in 2007 and had no interest in it, read no response, until yesterday when a Conservative decided to bump it?Sorry, that smells like someone was reaching to post some Liberal bashing to offset the number of Conservative miscues over the past few weeks which have been prominently on display and talked about. A revelation of which occured after the Conservatives took office and ordered a review, err a witch hunt looking for wrong doings that they could use to remind voters of their opponents previous record while in power. But given the numbers of transgressions, I'd suggest that overall, over the course of 16 years, 15 different organizations, the number of wrongdoings is probably a lot lower than the Conservatives had hoped they would find. Which is all the more reason to be concerned with the Conservatives now making it harder to hold governments accountable for the same types of actions. It begs the question of, just how many cases of this have they already been up to themselves and if so, how long will it be before they can be held accountable given that they're already implementing measures designed to make it more difficult to do so. I disagree, you can't raise one issue without giving equal time to how the Conservatives determined efforts to reduce transparecy is also at play. It was based on the Liberals wrong doings that the Conservatives placed themselves on a pedestal promising to be better than them.Which they've failed to do. No need to, the two issues at play here, go hand in hand with one another. -

They did. The voters gave them a time out. Wait, that's only a concern to you but you think that the Liberals should have their noses rubbed in the mess they made?To me, that's much more of a concern. It's a far graver concern when the current government (Cons) insists on hiding these sorts of things and making it far more difficult to be held accountable for it. Why do the Conservatives feel it's necessary for them to now introduce new measures aimed at hiding government misconduct and restrict the ways to which revelations of their misconduct can be investigated? That's a far more serious concern than rubbing the noses of previous governments' mistakes.. -
It certainly is telling that a clear cut majority of Canadians think that Harper is doing a bad job in the 3 planks which he used to lead him to power.Because let's be honest here, Canadians didn't vote him in based on their love of his policies, they voted the Liberals a time out based on Harper's promise to provide integrity, accountability and open, transparent government. All of which he has failed at providing. Harper's only saving grace is that Dion's no Chretien or Trudeau that can rally support like they could.

Reminds me of this guy I'm a 905er. Flaherty's lies and failures to manage this province's finances during a time of growth are worse than the Rae days. The Conservatives sale of the 407 alone should have been enough to have told you that. In case you forgot about that outstanding financial deal Yes, Flaherty sat on the board which negotiated and approved that sale... Only one of Flaherty's moves which led to the slaughter of his party's number of sitting MP's which was the election that instilled Dalton as Premier... Now that, was outstanding!!! http://www.cbc.ca/ontariovotes2003/

Except that JBG or I believe the other nic he uses, Yank-in-NY on some other Canadian political forums isn't a left winger at all. For example, here's JBG expressing his views on homosexuality and political correctness. http://forums.canadiancontent.net/lounge/3...html#post592697 And it does appear strange that a left winger would be a member of the Blogging Tories http://www.bloggingtories.ca/forums/topic4980.html I'd supply more posts but the wayback internet archive machine's not working so well with the old talkon.ca forums where he readily admitted to being right wing. JBG a left winger? Not a chance in hell.

Oh yes, the Conservative lackies quickly rush to their heros defence.Who else would have been so bitter at losing an election as to target strictly Liberal supporters vehicles. Not the NDP, they have more class than that.
-
No but I hope that when they catch the cons (criminals) involved in that vandalism and they are identified as being Conservative supporters, you'll be the first to step up and admit some of Harper's thugs were responsible.

Dion inciting Ontario Revolution?
JaysFan replied to Slim MacSquinty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, what people will always remember is that Flaherty was the one that left his previous post leaving Ontario with a $5.6 billion defecit, which he continuously lied about. And since taking his fiscal screwup act to Ottawa, it's the same old Flaherty, as a Finance Minister, he's completely useless and continuing to destroy Ontario's finances. -
Is this the way that Conservatives lose? By resorting to thuggery type tactics? Read the rest here

Unless she too now has also been bribed to keep her mouth shut..It's almost obvious that someone within the Conservative heirarchy got to her after this all came out and told her to stifle it... What's one more bribe when you've already bribed others...

No, not me.I'd be a hanging judge. I'd hang Harper for wasting our tax dollars with his frivilous lawsuit.
-
Who's to say it was distasteful or way over the top?The only one's claiming that to be are the loyal fans of Harper. If Harper said the world was flat, they'd agree with him.
-
So you're a ditherer then? In reference to your question about the Liberals propping the Conservatives up, that can be answered very easily. Dion makes the history of France look strong by comparison. The Liberals need new leadership.
-
Here here!Unfortunately though, the current government doesn't have the spine to do something like that.
-
Nice try at spinning that but that plant in particular wasn't involved in the auto sector. It manufactures heavy truck and commerical vehicle shocks. It was a clear case of how NAFTA has led to Canadian and more recently, American manufacturing jobs disappearing to Mexico for the benefits of cheap labour.
-
Of course Harper has no intention of implementing Justice Gomery's recommendations. They would severly cut into his fascist ideology of governing. As to the lawsuit, see my new signature I'm sure it'd make great headlines for him to file a lawsuit against every and any Canadian that dares to call him for what he is.

Dion inciting Ontario Revolution?
JaysFan replied to Slim MacSquinty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Spoken like something I'd expect from the mouth of an Albertan. You're not an Albertan are you Argus? What a crock! Alberta, specifically the oil patch is Canada's largest polluter but who did Harper target primarily with his environmental policies? The auto manufacturing sector of Ontario. And if you want to discuss dividing the country for political purposes, let's talk about about Harper's divide and conquer modus operandi when it came to disucssing equalization... Or should we remind people of how Harper is moving to fulfill his promise to better reflect the growing might of Western Canada at the federal level. He proposes to raise the representation of Alberta and British Columbia in the Commons on par with their populations as of the 2011 census. Ontario, with six new seats, would continue to be under-represented. And given that Albertans to use your own words "would crawl frantically over each other to vote" and in the past 40 years have voted nothing but Conservative, that's another case of favouritism to the west. What's the first thing you hear from Albertans when the topic of a NEP (something this country desperately needs) is raised? The threats from them of seperation if it were to proceed... Of course, with Harper at the helm, that'll never happen. He'll make good and sure Alberta's protected with his firewall. No, Ontario got rid of the incompetent bunch of liars when it turfed Harris, Eves and Flaherty's worthless carcasses to the curb 2 elections ago. As for the high dollar well on that note we're in agreement as to what the cause for it is and thank you for supporting my case of what the main reason is for Ontario's manufacturing sector struggling. I'm no fan of Dalton's but I'll take him over the useless twits that came before and ran this province into a $5.6 billion defecit while selling everything off. -
Jack didn't but I will. http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2007/09/07/arvinmeritor.html And that Toronto plant closing will cost many people close to me a substantial loss in revenue. In turn, it will affect me too.

Dion inciting Ontario Revolution?
JaysFan replied to Slim MacSquinty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wouldn't call it stupid at all. What Dion said is exactly how a large number of Ontarians feel about the way this province is being treated by Harper's government.I'd say he was smart enough to recognise that there is a very real, honest and rapidly increasing hatred towards the Harper government for their catering to Alberta and Quebec's whims while doing their best to screw Ontario over. Leftist media? You mean like the right leaning, Conservative supporting Toronto Sun's Christina Blizzard who essentially said the very same thing. Right because handing out my tax dollars to monopolies like the oil patch is so much different. Or handing out my tax dollars to buy votes in Quebec like Harper has quietly been doing. Damn those leftist media types at the Conservative supporting Canwest media group eh? Flaherty's quickly becoming public enemy number one around Ontario. I mean it's not bad enough that he left Ontario's provincial coffers $5.6 billion in defecit and lied about it when he held that Finance minister posting provincially, no, no, now he's doing his best to drive business out of the province too. Actually, if you'd been paying attention the past year or 2 you'd know that the main reason is that the rise of the petro-charged loonie against the U.S. greenback is the reason why.Alberta is the only province benefiting from that and Harper's loving it. It meets his firewall'd idea of what Canada should look like perfectly. Amazing how if you replace one word, your comments describe Harper to a tee.Oh, greetings all.
