  1. Protest beyond the law is not a departure from democracy; it is absolutely essential to it. Howard Zinn
  2. While Harper was spending that surplus he continued to rape and plunder EI and CP. So the fact that he spent the $13 billion before the recession speaks to his inability to balance the budget.
  3. While we're on the topic of generation, Ontario Power Generation had their environmental report rejected by the the Ministry of the Environment last week because they couldn't prove the expansion of Darlington Generating Station would not be producing power for export.....(of course they are...). MoE claimed that the expansion of a nuclear facility under the Green Energy Act could only be considered, if alternate green sources for generation had been considered first and if it was fro domestic use only. OP's problem is that they export about 65% of Ontario Power capacity to the US and the US won't buy $0.60 per KW green energy. The $0.04 per KW is a much better return on investment....(of course it is....) especially when they charge us double and the US about 150%.
  4. I forgot to mention that recently there have been a number of Tax Court rulings in favour of FN to fish off reserve and sell their catches commercially, tax free. So the era of CRA making up the rules as they go is over for FN, and I think this will eventually apply to other activities. As an example, Six Nations people have a long history of acting as merchants and agents for other First Nations in the selling or trading of furs and other commodities. This might translate in a modern sense to entrepreneurial enterprises between FN and settlers that existed long ago. Thus the Proclamation 1763 that protected free and open trade with the natives would included no taxation.
  5. The friend of mine who was being chased by CRA, challenged them on, off-reserve business. Since Six Nations has never surrendered land to the Crown, and Southern Ontario was recognized prior to the Royal Proclamation 1763, the following applied: "And we do. by the Advice of our Privy Council, declare and enjoin, that the Trade with the said Indians shall be free and open to all our Subjects whatever." As well, my friend made note that 1. GST was a "consumer tax" payable by the purchaser and taxes could not by Band Council Resolution be charged or paid by anyone on reserve, and, 2. Section 89 of the Indian Act: "Subject to this Act, the real and personal property of an Indian or a band situated on a reserve is not subject to charge, pledge, mortgage, attachment, levy, seizure, distress or execution in favour or at the instance of any person other than an Indian or a band." And trying make him responsible for the consumers tax was an attempt at an illegal seizure.... When this was presented to CRA they did not challenge him and wiped his $10,000 GST clean and closed his account. Cool how the big bully folds when he is confronted with the law....
  6. Having an aboriginal business partner operating on reserve (unincorporated) means that neither the business or the personal partners (native or not) are open to government scrutiny, UNLESS they offer it voluntarily. I work with First Nation people EVERY DAY, and know the law as well as anyone. I even helped one business located on reserve lately get Canada Revenue Agency to withdraw a $10,000 GST account because the work they do is located in primarily in southern Ontario, and southern Ontario is the sovereign territory of Six Nations....meaning that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms vis a vis the Royal Proclamation 1763, over rides the Indian Act, or Tax Laws. CRA zeroed the account and closed it without hardly a whimper. However, even though CRA acts like a bully lots of times (as they did in the case above) the law is a very much different beast. And FN people have to resist the attempts by CRA to extort money from them I also sit on the Board of Directors for a Capital Corporation that deals with First Nation lending and business consulting. So perhaps you wouldn't mind STFU.
  7. There is another way. Find an native business partner who can operate the business on reserve. They don't pay taxes.....and since the government has no authority to look at their books, there is no way for them to know if you were paid a dollar or $100,000.
  8. You have to be careful of this tactic because as a company asset, when it is sold you will have to pay capital gains on it and income taxes on top of the municipal property taxes for any rent you pay. Plus in any form of liability situation against the corporation the house becomes a seizable asset, putting you and your family at a greater risk. You will also likely have a problem with municipal zoning in that in most municipalities only allow a portion of the home can be used for home-based businesses. In the end there is no logical reason for having the corporation buy the house and rent if back to you. You can take the risk but I believe it will cost you more in the end.
  9. If I'm not mistaken the maximum you can write off on your house is 25%.
  10. This is the best advice, since those with free advice are often wrong. One more of the tax shelters is to contribute to your spouse's RRSP...but talk to an accountant first.
  11. You are still delusional. It isn't a market economy if the government is protecting and subsidizing the corporations. It is a socialist economy when taxpayers have to invest in it, regardless if it was taxpayer revolting or government bailouts as the reason.
  12. You missed your own lie. The BANKS and the CORPORATIONS needed the money to survive. In another wise true market economy they would have collapsed, taking all our investment and jobs with them. If as you say the market will bear, then we should not have intervened, right? But the fact that the market does not bear the burden suggests that a self-sustaining and self-regulating market economy is an international lie. Then we can start to talk about all the subsidies that corporations and resource companies receive from governments all the time. Tax incentives and breaks, low interest loans guaranteed by government, free access to Crown land, and bail outs which had been a longstanding tradition in the world economies. No this is not a market economy, nor do they work. They depend on government regulation and taxpayer investment to remain viable. And funny enough our government stills sees fit to give them our money after they have shipped most of the jobs out of this country. And you apparently are living in a delusion.
  13. If that were true then there would have been no need for government / taxpayer bailouts of banks and manufacturers in North America at the beginning of the recession. That fact is that the free market is neither self regulating or self sufficient.
  14. There is no such thing as a "Christian God", so to suggest that WIP is at war with it, is to suggest that he is at war with your delusions and your fears....which is the crux of organized religion's agenda....to create fear...and and to create delusions in the followers so that they unequivocally follow what the priests and ministers tell them. Just as there is no sin, there is no fear except in your own mind. Fear is a delusion you create to protect yourself against bogey men and ghosts that haunt your mind. Sin is a weapon you use to attack others. Just as you try to fear Jesus who died because of your sins. It was murder. When you learn to free yourself of sin, and to realize that fear is your delusion, only then will you be able to realize what your potential is. God is not dead, nor is The Christ but you need to see Who they are for What they are first and not some imaginary vile creature ready to strike you down. If you need to pray, then pray for yourself. I am not in need of your charity.
  15. The story was released by Sun News...ultra right wing, Sun News. These are the same guys that were going to run with a story last week about Ignatieff involvement in Iraq being on the arms side. That information was supplied directly from Harper's former Deputy Chief of Staff Patrick Muttart. It is highly likely that this was not the only information supplied to Sun News either..... But then again where would the Deputy Chief of Staff get that kind of information....from the police? And who happens to be directly involved in the Conservative campaign but non other than Julian Fantino, whom I sure has supplied all kinds of information to the campaign office with dirt on lots of candidates in Ontario.....Hmmmm.....it kinda makes one go hmmmm.....
  16. It has never done much for the final figures. Traditionally governments have been elected and defeated in Ontario and Quebec. So taking the western bias for Conservatives and the Quebec surge out of the equation, the determination of who will win the election will primarily be determined in Ontario. According to the Nanos poll poll posted earlier today it looks like: The Conservatives will have another minority followed by the Liberals as official opposition and the NDP as second fiddle... However, the one real fact again comes to light. A majority of Canadians don't like the Conservatives and Canada is more left-leaning than right leaning. This very well may end up in coalition if the Conservatives can't win the confidence of the House.
  17. Of course they never are...even when the offenders come right out of the PMO, or a Conservative that is later denounced.
  18. CTV News/Globe/Nanos Tracking - Tories 37.0, NDP 30.6, Grits 22.7, BQ 5.5, GP 3.2 (April 28-30) The Conservative advantage over the NDP in the three day rolling average has diminished from eight to six points. Please note that we have seen a tightening of the race looking at the one day Saturday numbers but will need to wait to see what the results are for Sunday. Conservative support nationally is 37.0% followed by the NDP at 30.6%, the Liberals at 22.7%, the BQ at 5.5% and the Greens at 3.2%. The campaign is now featuring a possible tightening of the races in Atlantic Canada, Ontario and British Columbia. Factoring the margin of error for the regional sub-sample, a three way statistical tie exists in Atlantic Canada with the Liberals at 34.4%, the Conservatives at 32.9%, and the NDP at 29.1%. Support for the Greens is at 3.6% in Atlantic Canada. The NDP still enjoy a comfortable lead in Quebec with 37.4% support followed by the BQ at 23.9%, the Liberals at 18.1%, the Conservatives at 16.7% and the Greens at 1.3%. In Ontario, the Tories are at 36.2%, followed by the Liberals at 31.1%, the NDP at 27.4%, and the Green Party at 4.4%. The Conservatives have a substantial lead in the Prairies with 60.5% support followed by the NDP at 25.0%, the Liberals at 12.9% and the Green Party at 1.7%. In BC the Tories have 41.2% followed by the NDP at 34.9%, the Grits at 17.9% and the Greens at 5.7% A look at the Nanos Leadership Index, which is a one day snapshot of the perceptions of the leaders indicates that Saturday, Jack Layton's scores significantly improved and surpassed Stephen Harper's. Layton scored 97 points (up 17 points) on the one day index compared to 88 for Stephen Harper and 39 points for Michael Ignatieff. Yesterday Layton had an advantage over Harper outside of the margin of error of the research on trust and vision for Canada while Harper maintained an advantage on competence. Party platform remains the top vote driver at 47.3% of Canadians while the importance of party leader is trending up to 26.5%. Healthcare is the top issue at 31.2% with about a seven point advantage over jobs/the economy which stands at 24.6%. The detailed tables and methodology are posted on our website where you can also register to receive automatic polling updates.
  19. There are few cops out there as brash and arrogant as Fantino, that would release such personal and private information as this. Fantino has lied before the Courts, used illegal surveillance practices and abuse Canadian's constitutional rights. His actions and demeanor rival that of a mafia enforcer. Seems however, this is the kind of guy the Conservatives want to represent Woodbridge. After all if the Calgary Flames can have their goon enforcers then the Conservative party should have one as well.
  20. You certainly haven't suggested before you want to engage in "real" discussion. Rather you have been persistent in showing your intolerance for anything you don't agree with. You asked for help, and now you want to discuss it? What happened to your faith...oh ya...you have nothing to show for it. And here I was going to give you an opportunity to prove your faith is beyond your wild imaginings.... And by the way when I say: "Why do you need to know where I am coming from? Misunderstanding is your problem, not mine.", that IS holding a discussion. If I wasn't engaging you I would ignore you like most the people here do.
  21. Why do you need to know where I am coming from? Misunderstanding is your problem, not mine.
  22. Of course you would. Sinners like to share their misery. What will happen when sin is no longer an excuse for your bad behavior?
