  1. No one can really explain to me clearly the purpose of the mission into Afghanistan..? Empire after empire have entered into the region and all leave with nothing to show for it. Russian mothers still curse the government for robbing them of their sons for no good reason. To say these poor soldiers who you say are "aware" are serving the nation is a bizarre statement. I as a citizen do not feel served. Who is being served here and who is being protected? This is adventurism and don't say there is not an elite in this country who are without purpose who get a charge out of war fare...we do have old guys who have influence and a set of antique tin soldiers along with books on Napoleon in their library....of course government is influenced by un-elected persons of great privledge and wealth who are adventurists and do not respect the death of some white trash duped kid from Owen Sound...no disrespect intended in the term "white trash". You also mention that immigrants are enlisting - or to that effect - show me one face of a dead immigrant on the front page of the Toronto Sun? There are none - so what are you talking about. They do not want any part of a war that is not defensive...this is an offensive action and not a premptive strike against "terrorism" - it's and adventure for jerks.
  2. Security is a booming industry. It has learned to create work and wealth for itself. Always ask the question 'What is motivating the actor in the play, what is the sub-text?" - An overly hyper-vigilant society is a must for the ones who are contracted especally by government to secure us. There is one concern that may be addressed at a later time and that is the rise of private security. Even heads of state in America and Canada use private companies. That is not saying a lot for our tradional police and intelligence forces. Some may be offended by the occurance at the Vancouver airport in the fact that public securtiy is inferiour - and hiring practices are not what they use to be - Private security hires the best (and toughest) money can buy. Public security runs ads "no experence needed will train". Of course there is no comparison between cops and twits that work for minimum wage - but the difference in quality is becoming less and less defined. The public deserves more intelligent not just more trained security persons.
  3. Ask my opionion? I would say reasonablity and loyalty combined with a pride in her femaleness and a true un-imbittered love for males.
  4. There is a difficulty dealing with the older ones that actaully promote this weed. Firstly it is not "pot" - every last plant now grown in Canada is of one singular super plant engineered by orgainzed crime. The "clone" approach - which are snippings, have spread across the nation. This plant is not the pot of old that the old smoked back in the 60s and 70s. It is a different animal. The stuff is so powerful that it brings on mental illness - plus the stuff is addictive because of it is overwhelmingly potent. Those that promote and are even someone proud of the killer pot that trades for it's own weight in cocaine are really not quite with the times. If you have ever been around those that use this stuff you will find all are habitual and all are totally out to lunch. There was a time when you could not tell who was high and who was not. Today the users boarders on someone who has taken half a bottle of scotch. Personally I have no use for the stuff and to promote it in any manner is harmful to society. This is not the giggley seed popping stuff that came out of Mexico in the old days - it is poison. Pot generated through greed can not be good. Originally pot was not a hot commodity that enriched orgainzed crime. It was passed about in benevolence and created a very social atmosphere that was actally not to bad...now it is right up there with cocaine and heroine. Ask any expert plant person..it is not the same - put simply it is evil.
  5. One person poisoning another person even by consent is a crime. "Gormet meth tasting" - bliippp- I almost fell off my chair - the most insidious drug on the planet that makes cocaine look like mother's milk..as far as opium and the great wealth it STILL generates - I would say that between big pharma wanting the best non-synthetic euphoric - and orgainized crime also in need of this consipation dream drug...well....odd how production has gone up with Canadian envolvement.. .makes you wonder if the old British West Indian Dope shippers are still operating? Dope is bad...so is booze and so are we to profit from them - in the seach for peaceful realease called pleasure and profit.....If for instance - as much force was applied to drying up dope in the nation as is expended militarily in Afgahnistan and Iraq buy Canada and America - I would not have to watch the First Nations Jerk down the street selling crack to a flimsy and twitching little white girl that holds the hand of her "harm reduction worker" - the whole war on dope stinks.
  6. That's a good run of words "liberal-multicultural-hedonistic - banana...etc. Being a radical moderate myself is threatening to some. The advesarial and partisan approach to life becomes tiresome and tedious. Did enough us and them fighting to fill three life times. Moderation seems to be considered terrible to some..it's not a case of compromise and the loss of agendas and dreams, but it is a matter of common sense that must be applied - conservatism was meant to conserve what is good and true and generates prosperity for all. Liberalism was to liberate - I don't see the left or right doing either. So to have power.. - you have to go down the centre and understand that the control of chaos and evil - which to me are stupidity - must be mastered "young men - you are strong for you have mastered evil" - - - Fear must be put aside and healthy and steadfast bravery must occur - then - things will settle...I walk the dogs in the morning and they are re-actionary and were out smarted by a moderate black cat that stood still and avoided them - I saw the cat the dumb dogs did not...lesson - maintain your ground and do not be moved by emotion and sensuality or be provoked by provocateurs.....stand still and observe then act - once angered - you are controled. Moderation - balance.
  7. Hello - kengs 333 - Children have been born for thousands of years. Most under "bad enough the characteristics that you've already admitted to ------------------and the "less than ideal circumstances" Let me inform you..if I had listend to folks like you my four adult children would not exist and I would suffer a poverty worse than the lack of money could ever generate. Children are not the property of the state - I OWN MY OFFSPRING...so this vacarious apporach to the coveting of other property under the guise of social benevolence is an intrusion into family. Like I said - there were detractors that told me to insist that my spouse abort the first - that as a working musican and half crazed artist - I could not have children and should not allow them to be born. Four children arrived and not as you say under "ideal circumstances" as if there is an ideal circumstance in the world for humans to be born - there are none..still - mine are grown and brilliant and a blessing - money or no money we survived - and all those that dispised my daring - are all dealing with dysfunction - all let lawyers have their way with their families - commodifying wife and child in the industry that is family law...and I - yes I managed to maintain a still united and happy little empire called family....they are mine....and vacarious socialist who want to control breeding and interfere in relationships believing they know better what is a natural act - can simply get lost.
  8. I stood outside the court of appeal and ran into a guy that has been here for six years. He had a Canadian wife. He had a child - he was a former American trade delegate to China - this guy had been around..from what I gathered he was also a former employee of Enron..all he could say facing his extradition hearing was "Dick Chaney runs the place". "The last two guys the they dragged out of Canada are dead" - this is bold stuff...He also hinted that Chaney may have been involved with Enron PRIOR - to the scandal.. all I can say from what I know, is they are NOT on the up and up. This poor man looked ragged and if he had stepped out of a black and white series call the FUGITIVE....BUT- I watched as the court of appeal abandoned his human rights - he was without a lawyer - and it looked as if the judges were going to sell his ass to the Americans..it was distrubing.
  9. Let the kind corporations pay .....but rich people are cheap - just like poor people.
  10. Yes> logic dictates that it is a sport for those that are foolish and seek a game.
  11. It's always been Chaney - and that false intelectual - Mr. Carl Rove - that guy you knew in highschool..the bright nerd that in the long run, understood power but not ethics. There are interesting thing that can be said about Richard Chaney..that will not be said for fear of plucking light weight BBs out of my forehead. This was a disaster. George Bush is a kind hearted man. When it comes to corporations he had no choice but to comply. I watched his father during a press conference. I could see him scanning the room for who might assasinate his son. Being a former head of the CIA - he knows that holding the presidency is not a 100% safe postion. There was grave concern in the father for the son..Don't blame George...when he hugged two young black women after the Orleans disaster - He cared....but caring is not what it is about when it comes to being a robotron like the corporate Chaney.
  12. The saying "Child Poverty" is absurd and emotionally manipulative boardering on deception - IT IS ADULT poverty that brings about child poverty. There should be no direct focus on children here. The focus should be on the parents of the children...when a man or a woman become poor..the family becomes poor. To use the term "child poverty" deverts the issue away from the problem facing working and non-working parents...and it seperates the family as if children are free agents or worse - all wards of the state and that parents are just props that are secondary - poverty is poverty and if I hear the term slapped on to children - I may just vomit...It is no as if this is Brazil and we have ten thousand kids walking about with no parents and homeless - nor is it Africa. Seems that the liberal manipulator is pulling heart strings again..and using the term "child" in the same manner as they do in those terrible ads... "For fifty cents a day you can feed this big eyed puppy of a human" . Poverty is an issue that no one wants to address other than the poor.
  13. Just was not sure how to spell "rebar" - I know what the stuff is. AND yes I speculate a lot - if there is no sure way to accurately and swiftly pin point a problem...well you use your imagination and if you imagine enough you may get close..kind of like tossing IT against the wall - some of it is bound to stick. My post was hopefully to have someone such as yourself who is more expert..refine my speculations not just disgard them. "Obviously have no knowledge of" - I do know by instinct what will stand and defy gravity and what will not defy it as long.. .If one bridge falls..there must be a reason. In the states the infrastructure is coming apart at the seems...and roads are a mess. What I have noticed in the last twenty years is a decline in maintainance. For instance the whole east side of Toronto - last year was pot holed - and I am talking huge holes in pavement - and everywhere - This was unheard of twenty years ago in a Canadian city, point being...as the populace increases and there is more use of roads and bridges, you will find they will wear out. Back tracking a bit..and this is hard to deny - but the fastening I was talking about were not rebar - which is a reinforcement...but bolts and plates that are used in some structures - is it possible that we may have gone through a period of using poor quality metal? It is something to consider..speculation has it's place. It may be just be a good way to stimulate thought as I mentioned earlier, to cause inquisitiveness. No bridge should collaspe ever. There is not excuse. This is not a third world country.
  14. You might have something there. If you pay them now - they may get lazy and not win and then - there would be no endorsements to do for the big bubble bucks --- great...just like some elite types believe that a good and great artist will be spoiled if he or she has a patron and not come up with the great work that comes from suffering and starvation....which makes me wonder...- How come the sudden humor....I like that - this is the first laugh I have had since I got here.
  15. "A Nation within a Nation" - or a family within a family. Get a dictionary and you will see that a COUNTRY defines territory - real estate. NATION OR NATIONALISM..defines a tribe or family. In order to have nationalizm..you must have a group that spring forth from the same genetic heritage of original family. There was a time when anglo - saxon heritage proviced great nationalism..now with multi-culturalism...we have ghettos - and tiny nations within tiny nations...I still find it facinating that they defined Quebec as a "Nation within a Nation" and avoided calling them a country...what we have in Canada is not multi-culturalism - but MULTI-NATIONALISM...and maybe a house devided does not fall....but I doubt it..I as a slave born in England - liked the anglo nationalism of the past..it was comforting because the anglos are for the most part ancient Germanics as are some of the old Slavic tribes. And we looked similar and were relatives..now..well - welcome to the ghetto. There is nationalism in Markham - and at Jane and Finch - and in Rosedale and in Forest Hill - not to mention in my house and in my family or mini-nation.
  16. Still going on about the gay thing? Perhaps to much interest in defining a person by their sexual activity - but as I understand sex - it is by definition male and female. To approach any scandalism and attach sex to it - is a misnomer - gays do not have sex - hetrosexuals have sex..gays have something else...seems that there is to much interest in the activity of non-sexual creatures..some my anger at that statement - but it is similar to my feelings on no-sex marriage...although the government now bases family and spouse completely on the idea of gential contact - and nothing else. I repeat - this topic is not sexy.
  17. It's not about winning the metals but supporting people with dreams. Athletes are perfomance artists in reality. Not much different than composers - dancers and musicans. Not all compostions will be the very best in the world..but maybe more would with respectful funding. .....and saying an athlete spends four years to prepare- is off the mark. They dedicate a life time to the moment they compete. Too give support for four years to a person who was unpaid for the first 20 is a good deal for government. You have professional entertainers called hockey players who make millions...only because their effort is supported privately and because it is a buisness. Olympic athelete do not endure and perform for the money - they are not driven by greed - but by achievement. It's not just the metal winners that should be paid..but all capable ones giving their all. If you want to say support troops that represent Canada abroad..then support this tiny community of deeply focused and driven individuals..send the kids a check for god's sake...like I said... it does not matter if they are heroic and the country gets and ego boost out of "winning" - it is the brave effort put forth and the spectacle of that effort that should lift the hearts of Canadians..does not matter if they come in first or fourth. What matter is that they put up a good fight...I am sure in the less civilized China..you don't have their competators in training begging at the food bank. They take care of their own- and seems we resent those that take the path less traveled.
  18. It really does matter how good the inspection is. As some know the inspectors of water in some rural towns were not that good. Plus what does an inspection entail? You can look up at some of the railway bridges in the city of Toronto and see that they are covered with a type of chicken wire underneath to diswade the corrosive action of pigeon poop. I wonder if and inspector can really see past that wire messing that in some cases has been in place for 30 years or so. What I did find worrysome is parts of the Toronto subway system. Standing under a section where there are intersection tracks and listening - it felt as if at any moment the last few remaining bolts holding the whole place together were on the verge of popping out. It does not take an expert to intuitively feel that some construction was done with the lowest possible amount of material and is really underbuilt. The dependance on super smart and cost effecient engineering may be a problem. Most contractors and engineers I am sure love their job, but most are motivated by profit. As with the Gardener express way and the millions apoun millions spent in the repair of crumbling concrete was in my laymans estimation due to skimping on material. The metal reinforcement within the concrete seem just a little to close to the surface and water has cause the thin layer to peal away leaving metal exposed to rust even further. If this is truely the case it would have resulted from the oringinal contractor and engineers using a few square yards less of concrete - causeing a rise in profit when you take into the consideration that there are hundreds of supporting pillars holding up this in effect a very long and aging bridge. If my speculations are correct - that would mean that the millions extra made by the contractor with the assistance of an overly efficient team of engineers...that years and years later the tax payer is still giving support to what may have been greedy little crooks long dead. Most of the structures in Ontario look safe enough..but little things like not haveing a good metalugist on hand to make sure that the fasteners that hold together these huge slabs of concrete and ashfalt are of the highest quality. A chain is as strong as it's weakest link. Can the internal unexposed metal that holds a bridge together be properly inspected? Probably not...the only alternative would be to go into the records - if there are any and see what the metalugist state who passed the fasteners as safe. For instance - in a jet aircraft all it takes is metal of inferiour qualtiy to give way - one bold and a few screws and down she goes. If you have ever done work around the house or on the family car..You will notice that you can buy bolts..that can be torqued up by the human hand and do not snap - some material usually imported - snapps right off--- and not by a powerful mechanical wrench - but by a common wrench powered by human flesh. Its all about the metal mostly - and sometimes the concrete - if the mix is not PERFECT - and poured with expert knowledge and in good faith ....then it will in time give way. Governmental inspectors may have to re-vamp their techniques of examination...driving around in a company pick up truck with an old guy with a mickey in the glove box - carrying a clip board may not be the best to guarentee a structure to be totally safe..if one bridge can fall on your head - then in all probabity a second one will fall in time.
  19. No one knows what the figures are and "I think" that the gov puts in the appropriate amount of money for day to day training is speculative..everyone knows what the average welfare payment is - or what the corporate heads make in compensation for their effort - someone should quote a figure what olympic athetes actually recieve...or don't recieve for that matter - make it public..it will either bring pride or shame to the government. I for one do not have a clue what the athletes get or do not get as far as support.
  20. Don't give up and retract your service Ameican woman. Sometimes you have to spoon feed stubborn born. Be patient and do not anger or sense disappointment..things take time - and to come to an honest understanding is not like making instant pudding - keep the dialogue goining or you HAVE wasted your time - the job is not done yet. I found when dealing with Americans - You have to show committment - and win their trust, making them know for certain that you are a friend - then and only then will you come to agreement. Walking away from the table is an error - give more - more time...all come to their senses in time.
  21. As I explained to some of the good members who's interest I may have captured, is that I am not a fomally educated person - I am an idiot. I may have walked out the school door at 17 but I never ceased my study. My enjoyment of words and natural curious nature had me do a small but meaningful research of the word IDIOT. Some who take language for granted and are the victims of re-visionism because of the passage of time, may believe that the word means someone of lesser intelligence or a person that is simply stupified - or genetically predispositioned to to dullness and are of little use to high brow society. Well the word is on based in ancient politics. When the old Greeks would gather for discussion - they were a high faluting exclusive bunch of thinkers and talkers. They formed clubs of sorts where heated debate would take place. All the great pondering minds created a circle and an inner circle of intellectuals. IF - a person was to interupt and or interject their view into the inner circle who was not an accepted and a card carrying member - Someone within the inner circle would pull rank and yell you - "Do not listen to that man, for he is an IDIOT" - The word did not mean that the person was unintelligent and perhaps not able to contribute to discussion...it just meant that he was excuded by the exclusive group. What I wonder is - have things changed in the last 3000 years? Is it possible for an idiot such as myself to enter into discussion and or make statements that are bold and considered uncivilized and imflamatory? Sure I understand that you are a very focused bunch and like to stick to the protocols of comfort - and I am sure some of you are very exclutionary...I may even refere to you as an elite. Being an idiot all my life with a view and perception of the world that was created mostly through my own private study and originally quiet observation. My question is: Do the members here who it seems are highly institutionalized - find value in an idiot and and idiots' perceptions and views of the social, political and moral asspects of Canadian life? Or am I as an idiot with barbaric warrior blood running through my veins not exceptable. Yes there are other faces that I carry - that of the artist - of the musician - the religious thinker and the down trodden wasted outcast....who may have learned to write and express himself out of sheer determination and practice. I arrived here like a tired old horseman who spent the last ten years battling it out with wind mills and spectors - some turned out to be real and some not...so I suppose what this is - is an apology to the good members for storming in without knocking first - and for being an idiot.
  22. My compliments Mountain Man. If left to your own devices as a conservative without liberal harrassment - you speak well...I enjoyed that....and thanks my old friend for the fatherly advice...stay around...Your turn to be the exchange student. What I see as wonderful is that you will be able to speak freely here...welcome to Canada bud...don't mean to out you..but now I will see the real you - and I will read the post perfectly..thank you - and send my love to America when you get back....The most passionate and colourful people on earth...yes - took a while - but to truely know the grass roots yank is to love them*
  23. OK lets forget about it - just trying to be nice..must be the liberal of my youth creeping out...sorry - she was real cute and I though more of those would be delightful.
  24. There is a difference in the migratant in the southern USA and the immigrant that comes to Canada. There is an air of sterness and authority in Canada..immigrants behave for the most part. Where as your Hispanics are just moving north to land they once occupied not to long ago - so they do not feel like guests but owner returning. Canada has scarier bureacrats...that must be it...a bit of old left over colonialist "welcome to the farm - the bunk house is over there now get to work" You Americans are just to free and easy and maybe they take advantage of the freedom..Canada is just a bit more restictive..and that is probably a good thing - or the folks on the bus would be making me sit at the back....that's humor....we are just more English in attitude I guess..probably more so than England at present..seeing she is now a European nation.
