Jack Layton beginning to impact on BC Politics
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I see another right wing intellectual has joined the group. You mst have spent lots of time thinking up what to say for your post. The guy with the movie star looks is the NDP Surrey Panorama Ridge candidate Jagrup Brar - looks a lot like John Travolta. -
Jack Layton beginning to impact on BC Politics
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How many others think that attractive NDP candidate Jagrup Brar looks a lot like john Travolta? Jagrup Brar and the NDP will stand up for Surrey God, an entreprenneurial type, combined with movie star looks, and great progressive policies, where no one is left behind. What more could the voters in Surrey want? -
October 02, 2004 Leader's Levee with Carole James and Jack Layton Join Jack Layton, Carole James and our new MPs, along with members of the Federal Council of the Federal NDP, to celebrate and build on the exciting future of the NDP. Reception: Saturday, October 2, 2004, 6 pm at the Gallery Room Empire Landmark Hotel and Conference Centre 1400 Robson Street, Vancouver It is fascination to watch the transformation taking place within the NDP both federally, and provincially in BC. With the additional 1,000,000 votes in the last federal election, and Jack Layton, MP, about to take his place in Parliament, combined with the BC New Democrats amazin' rebound in the polls, the New Democrats are definitely on a roll. A lot of this renewed energy for the left-of-centre party is attributable to Jack Layton's leadership. Watch for the impact of the James-Layton connection, together with the NDP's fabulous entreprenneurial candidate in the upcoming Surrey Panarama Ridge, BC by-election, where the Campbell Liberals took 58% of the vote last election. Layton's charisma, combined with well thought out progressive policies, is continuing to attract more and more people, and voters, to the NDP ranks.

No the minority government is going to be a lot more progressive, because it is going to be infused with NDP policies, like the National Child Care Program. The New Democrats had to do something to break out of the doldrums, similar to the Conservatives. Layton has brought the NDP 1,000,000 more votes than his predecessor. Can Harper say the same? But I agree being in the mushy middle wins elections.
-
Well, here's a sop to the New Democrats to keep them at bay: Martin says national child care a go Much to the dismay of the right wing crowd, this minority government is shaping up to be a defacto Liberal-NDP one. I don't think anyone is going to much care what Harper carries on about - he is definitely looking more and more like the odd man out.

Beef Problem So Let's Attack Sushi
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No, the American border is closed to our beef because Americans became vegetarians years ago, and now have no need for Canada's sick cows. -
TSX chief's swan song unworthy Two things: 1 I am stunned that I am reading about this kind of behaviour concerning the CEO of TSX . 2 I am apalled, stunned, and blown off my chair, to hear someone who operates with these kind of principles is slated to be the CEO of the Royal Bank. How in the world could the Royal Bank conceive of hiring a person with these kind of values? I seriously am shocked, as I thought the Royal Bank was better than this. How so very sad for the Royal Bank and for Canada! We sure have slide a long way down since Ronald Reagan's values took over and made priciples worthless in the business world. Sick is the only word for it.

Austria bishop quits in sex row I am beginning to almost think we should start to consider banning organized religion, as a lot of these dickhead clerics are using the church to hide their disgusting habits. Perhaps not ban, because prohibition is not usually effective, but somehow we could substantialy reduce the power of organized religion, by eliminating any charitable tax- exemptions. This B***S*** has got to be stopped.

Weak Canadian Liberals Face Ordeal in Parliament What we can look forward to, or expect, starting next week: A lot more material for This hour has 22 Minutes, and Air Farce. Postering and bluffing by all parties. The rumour mill will be rife with misinformation. Some tense moments, exacerbated by CCM (Canada's Crappy Media), over whether or not the government is going to fall. Once the wrinkles are ironed out, over which parties are basically going to work together, some decent legislation will get passed. The universe will continue to unfold as it should!

Every since I worked a long time ago for a transnational, and saw how my company executives treated our external auditors, when the auditors found discrepancies, by threatening to change auditors, if the auditors didn't leave the financial statements the way the transnational had prepared them, I have not had any confidence in audited financial statements. To me an external audit is not worth the paper it is written on. And in the case of my transnational, of course the auditors left the financial statements alone, as they wanted to keep the transnational's business. The sooner people realize it is a bullshit industry, and that there is little protection for their investments, the better. Gomery rips apart audit by Ernst and Young "You didn't rewrite it, you watered it down," he said. "Why did you water it down?"

Well, I don't see any Newfie news

Marshall decision I usually enjoy Well's take on political machinations, and he has not disappointed me this time. I agree with his take on this resignation. -
Has Canada rafitied the Kyoto Accord yet?
maplesyrup replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Russia's Putin preparing to ratify Kyoto Protocol: report Finally Russia is getting its act together, at least on the global warming issue. Canada's position has been a comedy of errors and it is quite tragic what has happened here in our country. Canada could have been the trendsetter - another one of the reasons I miss Trudeau. -
Bush to be Re-elected thanks to Democrats
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Well we won't have to be worrying about the effects of a Kerry White House - it isn't going to happen, as I think Bush has a lock on the presidency for a second term. Not getting the attention but probably more interesting is what is happening in the Congresssional races. It looks like the Democrats are about to retake control of the Senate. -
One complicating factor is the rising price of fuel, which adds to travel costs. Does anyone know what the price of those Mini Coopers are in Canada?

Loonie hits 11-year high Exporters are going to be challenged in the coming years, but travellers like me are delighted with the appreciation in the value of our Canadian dollar. South America, Europe, Hawaii, and the South Pacific, here I come. Go Canada Go!

Stoker....in all likelyhood, because of Bush's policies on the environment/global warming. The countdown has begun: 'Volcanic advisory' issued for Mount St. Helens

The Canada Tourism Office should hire O'Reilly just to open his mouth. It'll do wonders for Canada's Tourism business. -
BC Mountain Eyed for Trudeau Tribute
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Trudeau was Canada's prime minister, not the just the East's PM, not just the North's PM, but PM for all of us. If someone wants to go celebrate some jerk like Mulroney, or Klein, or whomever, go ahead and do it, and you won't hear me complaining. That's your perogative. But if I, and the many other Canadians wish to celebrate Trudeau's life, back off and let us do it. I find the naysayers here very mean spirited. -
Conservatives - Party for Men, Rich?
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The fact that the Conservatives are threatening to vote against the throne speech makes me think they are poor losers. To be expected for sure, but how sad: Duceppe snubs Rideau Hall
