  1. Ft. Niagra, Stoker is right. I think you are taking the bait of the trolls. This is exactly what they want, to spew their irrational vitriol and get you all fired up. Most of these anti-Bush trolling threads are easy to spot. Responding to the insanity only perpetuates the thread and encourages them. There are a couple of posters on the forum who use slander as their primary debating tool.
  2. I don't really trust sources like Noam Chomsky and other radical internet sources so you'll have to forgive me for not relying on BD's sources. This is what I'm talking about. I'm confident in my own ability to choose who deserves aid and who doesn't. Why should the government decide for me. This is the philosophical difference between libs and cons. The left would rather the government make their decisions for them. For instance I give to a charity that takes virtually nothing for operating costs. It's not an ideological organization and everything is strictly volunteer. I'd much rather give to charities like these rather than the government making political contributions where corrupt dictators skim off the top or the UN where the aid may go into some type of oil for food boondogle or paying Moroccan soldiers who rape the natives etc.
  3. The "no" decision was a political decision by PM (this smilie kinda looks like him eh) to appease those Canadians with an inferiority complex. It's an imature pride issue. What is bizzare is that by saying no it effectually takes away what little say we actually had in our defence. Canadians need to realize that this undiplomatic behaviour has consequences, both economic and political. lol. Or I imagine the dialogue to go something like: "Mr. President we have an incoming nuclear missile heading for NYC in 20 minutes. Before we take defensive action we need to call PM Martin ( ) and ask for Canada's permission to defend ourselves."
  4. Eureka, You ignore the personal contributions of Americans. They donate far more than any other country. This is a philisophical difference. The nanny state attitude of liberals dictates tax and make decisions for the people rather than incentive and giving people a choice. You also ignore the expense of the military contributions of the US. As much as you disparage US foreign policy, someone has to do the dirty work.
  5. Let's see this poll. I'd like to see the wording. I don't understand the denial. More insight
  6. Caesar, coming from you, that's awsome. The left acts on emotion rather than reason. I believe your hearts are in the right place but your methodology for problem solving is flawed. Throwing money at the downtrodden temporarily fixes a symtom but fails to cure the disease. Not only that but merely throwing money at people like our aboriginals for instance just exagerates the problem. Conservatives prefer accountibility. Bush, for example, supported extra funding for inner-city schools with the caveat that the money would be cut off if the schools didn't produce results.
  7. If you were being sarcastic then I apologize. Your post was unclear which was why I asked you to explain. You didn't explain that your daughter-in-law was American. Forgive me for not finding the humour in the destruction of L.A. and NYC comments as there are those on this forum who feel this way.
  8. Because it's called "debate", sunshine. As much as it would tickle your fancy to have this board be a collection of bobble-heads nodding in agreement with every trite proclimation you or anyone else makes, the whole point is to exchange ideas. So don't project your failure to have any onto those of us that do.
  9. August why play into his game of cavilling and deflecting the issue by quibling about definitions. We all know what it means to be anti-American. Ya you neeever do that
  10. It was a damning statement. If it was selective editing then feel free to post the rest. Or a link to it, or an explanation. Then I will join you in criticising the person who posted it. Here is the entire post. Maybe I'm alone in how I interpreted it. If I am misinterpreting the post I apologize. Selective editing Eureka?
  11. Did you not post this with respect to Americans: "Personally, I hate them all... I can't wait to see Los Angeles slide into the ocean when the big one comes: or New York to be drowned when the icecaps melt completely. " If I have the wrong impression of your views of Americans please explain your comments.
  12. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying Eureka. And I'm not sure you mean by having my little bit of fun. The only thing I find depressing is the hatred you have towards people merely by virtue of where they were born. I hope you don't teach your kids or grandkids, whatever the case may be, to hate like that. I'm a cub scout leader and one of my cubs moved here from the US last year. The kid is only 8 years old yet somehow all the kids at school pick on him and pester him to tears because he happens to be American. And even on a more personal (without revealing too much) I know someone who moved here from the US who doesn't even tell people where they're from because of how awful they're treated by people here. Check out this Canadian experience by one American
  13. Hi Newfie, I have no doubt that you have no problem with Americans. From what I've seen Newfoundlanders are pretty humble people that give everyone the benefit of the doubt. But I think there are a large number of Canadians who have been taught by the media, teachers, and political leaders to hate Americans. I don't think so. In my experience on 5 continents, people see us pretty much the same way as they look at New Zealanders and Austrailians. A little different but basically the same. And as much as we like to see ourselves as playing a large role in the world, most of the world doesn't give us much thought. Again, I don't think so. As the world becomes more global and as our cancult laws prove to be a failure, it is impossible to resist the inevitable further integration of our economies and cultures if Canadians want to maintain their standard of living. But, the CBC and others are trying hard to fight it. More insight from a third party... And from Eureka: While he may be comended for his honestly, and not pretending to be open minded, it's a good example of how a lot of people in this country think. Even more telling is the lack of response to this kind of hatred. It's ok in Canada to talk like this about Americans. But can you imagine if someone had made these comments about Pakistani's or Arabs? There would be no tolerance what -so-ever. He'd be branded a racist and a bigot and probably be banned from the forum.
  14. I agree as well. However, the only surprising part of it is they did it to a Liberal PM. (still I noticed Duffy and Oliver backing up the PM). The media does the same thing to Harper and Bush all the time. The only problem is there are people who hate these guys so much they'll eat up negative spin that is fed to them.
  15. Ya pretty funny huh? What's your point. It happened. I heard it first hand. Nice attempt to spin it into an urban legend.
  16. This is a total lie. I have a good friend who served in Vietnam as a Greenberet. Upon returning from Vietnam and walking off the plane as a wounded soldier an anti-war protestor spit in his face. Ya and don't read Front Page, read Slate instead . Don't read Horowitz read Chomsky instead .
  17. Be warned Grantler, he's quite crafty at deflecting the question and cavilling about the issue.
  18. Hi Newf, I think it is the main reason, and the other reasons are tied to it. Canadians really believe that people in the world will not treat them well if they are percieved as American. (The odd self-hating American buys into this as well). Ya sorry Newf, I know we've been through it before, but she's a good example of how many people think in this country. People rallied around her after she made those comments. She had to stomp on an replica of the US President before she was actually punished. Even then PM could barely bring himself to fire her. This pervasive anti-Americanism is why the Yank-bashing beer ads are so wildly popular (eg. Joe Canada touring the country). Canadians look for any excuse to rip on Americans. We're taught to do it by our media and from elementary school to university. It used to more of a relationship like those of Australia-New Zealand or Austria-Germany. Natural resentment towards the larger, dominant country. But I think it's evolved into a more serious hatred among many Canadians. Many of them hide behind the mantra of "I don't hate Americans I just hate their Government" etc.
  19. I agree with Tawasakm. The problem is when profs like Ward Churchill and Noam Chomsky take advantage of this idealism and enthusiasm to further their own agendas. Not only is it an unhealthy teaching environment but the backlash isn't healthy either. In Ohio they are talking about legislating bias in college, which IMO, sets a dangerous precedent. Banning Bias
  20. Hi Michael, Couldn't agree more. I think the polarization is the result of a backlash against the subtle bias in the news and on campus. The radical fringe groups from both sides are polarizing everyone else. From Michael Moore to Michael Savage. Ah I miss the days of Reagan Democrats.
  21. I strongly believe Canadians hate Americans. Those who deny this are either trying to maintain Canada's image of niceness or are willfully ignorant. Carolyn Parrish said it best "I hate those bastards". And her Toronto constituents validated her comments by overwhelmingly re-electing her. Chretien him self allowed his staff get away with American bashing. Canada's identity is based on being anti-American and the CBC magnifies this and uses it as it's tool to "unite" all Canadians. From the time we are small we are told how much "nicer" and more polite we are than Americans. We are told how stupid Americans are because they know little about us. It offends our fragile ego's. (Yet the average Canadian can tell you anything about their next closest neighbor, Greenland). Canadians arrogantly put their flags on their backpacks as they travel the world to tell everyone "I'm not American".
  22. Good topic Grantler. Like August said in another thread: I think the radical left has found a home in our universities. Understandibly they have an idealistic audience ready and willing to believe what ever they are told. Youth full of zeal starting to learn some of the awful realities of life, willingly embrace the simplistic solutions fed to them by their profs. What's that Churchill quote? Something like anyone under 30 who isn't a liberal doesn't have a heart, anyone over 30 who is still a liberal doesn't have a brain. You should check out this film online it's prett interesting: Campus Bias
  23. Typical cop out from one of Chomsky's sheep.
