Conspiracy mindset and critical thinking
ScottSA replied to ScottSA's topic in The Rest of the World
Yes. I think all dissenters should be shot, or in the case of the internet, infested with viri. Please open port 23 and stand by for bluescreen. I'm not sure why you interpret mockery of idiotic conspiracy theories as some kind of assault on free speech. I'm merely using my right of free speech to mock your free speech. Are we suffering from category error this week? -
Goodness, this is certainly irking the left. Some are going into veritable transports of creativity and plumbing the dictionary and thesaurus alike in a search for nasty things to call her. Shame there's no one on the left who gets conservatives all aflutter...it sounds like fun, all that gnashing of teeth and slathering of jaw...over an entertainer. The left is so highly strung. So ready to indulge in hysterical hyperbole.

Troop surge is working
ScottSA replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Clearly a coincidence that can only be ignored at our peril. The Great International Jewish Bankers Plot is normally only dimly perceived by a select few savants, but from time to time it rears its head so obviously that not even sceptics can ignore it. The Gandhi/Hitler connection is one such obvious rearing of head. Mind you, I'm not making accusations, all I want to do is get the answer to questions. Like for instance if Gandhi and Hitler both had the same aims, did they also fight side by side on the battlefield unbeknownst to the rest of the world? Is the name "messerschmitt" simply a Germanized version of "mahatma"? Why do all German linguists laugh when we ask them this perfectly legitimate question? Do they have orders from the state to discredit the questioners? Who will watch the watchers? Everyone should open their eyes and 'see'. Was Bush involved? All the available evidence suggests that these and other troubling questions demand answers, because no one has been able to prove they're not true. -
George Bush requests an audience with the Pope.

Am I wrong in thinking this is a complete waste of a thread? -
Conspiracy mindset and critical thinking
ScottSA replied to ScottSA's topic in The Rest of the World
This is plagiarism. I've seen it spread across the internet a million times before. Whoever first made the claim, it has long since faded into an urban legend trotted out by truthies to draw a false analogy between Bush and the concentration camps and gas chambers of Hitler. If only we would, the forum would be a more sane place. -
Let me congratulate you on an almost perfectly executed backhanded compliment. Noticing my humour is a pretty astute observation, in spite of my personal beliefs about your mental capability.

Stronach won't run in next election
ScottSA replied to stignasty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's conventional wisdom in Ottawa that the CPC would have lost a 2005 election. Well, it was conventional wisdom in Dec 05 - Jan of 2006 too that the Cons would lose an election. I don't think anyone truly saw it coming until close to the election itself. -
Harper's "new" government corrupt military contracts.

Are you under the impression that the money is sitting in a suitcase in a dark alley somewhere awaiting discovery by Sherlock Harper? -
FRONTLINE WORLD: Canadian troops in Afghanistan
ScottSA replied to JMH's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is an almost legible compilation of crap to fling at the mission. I'm sure you're deeply concerned about US troops and their equipment. Like you say, it's a big plot and the US army is comprised of 100% highschool dropouts because a lot of dead and maimed soldiers say so on a website and the cow jumped over the moon. I don't even know what this is sposed to mean: "the military and the govt will try to get their secrets from the rest of us. Shame!"; but it sounds like there's a plot afoot alright. But sorting through these lumps of turd you flung at the Afghan mission, I don't see you formulating a point. Am I missing something? -
Canada IS a secular state. Get over it. Your religious beliefs (or anyone elses) do not belong in parliament. How arrogant and naive all wrapped into one.

Is Harper being Clarked/Mulroneyed?
ScottSA replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well you seem to be saying that he's not conservative enough. Again, whether Harper is a conservative or not depends on how 'conservative' is defined. It's not "word games", it's necessary boundaries. I think Harper is conservative in general outlook, but if you're going to go all purist on me, you'll want to quibble about "how" conservative he is in an effort to show that he wasn't conservative at all, so I really don't know what answer you're looking for. -

Precisely. Is Harper a conservative? Depends on how you define the word. -
Is Harper being Clarked/Mulroneyed?
ScottSA replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How ridiculous. Harper blah blah blah hates us all and is drunk and uncaring and doesn't do anything for us because he's bad. He's evilly calculating and archfiendedly ambitious and he wants to rule Canada like a Machiavellian prince, but he's too late. Whatever. Wait a sec, why is he too late? What is he supposed to learn? The last demographics I've seen suggest that conservative voters are growing in proportion to enlightened folk, so I don't know what could make it too late, unless of course you know of an upcoming putsch. Harper seems to have effectively lulled Canadians into complacency while he plots the downfall of civilization, so what is he supposed to learn? That he can outsmart Dion while blindfolded and being kneecapped? That the NDP will troll along winning a few customers and losing a few like it does in every other election in the history of the universe? That the bloc is worried far too much about its backdoor support to attack anyone else and is generally happy with CPC philosophy anyway? -
I think a full scale clampdown is called for. Jackboots, trucks in the night, a Harperian nightmare in full glory. We should have platoons of moderators, sub-moderators and moderator youth swarming the streets looking for evidence of pottymouth and bad taste. People should toe the line more. People should be watched more closely. Eggs may be broken, but zis iss needed!

Question for any police or prosecutors...
ScottSA replied to Figleaf's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Do you know the actual number of wrongful conviction's in the 90's? How can I number the numberless? Yup, pretty funny Figgy. This is an 'oops' moment though. How many innocents are in jail? Hundreds? Maybe thousands? Are as many as half of all convictions 'wrongful'? Is this a widespread epidemic in the justice system? In reality, you have no idea many convicts are innocents, and no way of finding out, and you have no idea if this is even an issue, so you just made up an issue. -
Question for any police or prosecutors...
ScottSA replied to Figleaf's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I make NO ACCUSATIONS, I am dealing with FACT of a situation that happened to ME and you will all know it SOON. The system says that you are in charge of dealing with people, because of that your dealing with individuals that deal with trauma and upset. If officers and CROWNS do not know what they are doing, they need to be DISMISSED, or PUT THROUGH some form of training again. The system screws up and there are no SUPPORTS out there for VICTIMS. How many OFFICERS BECOME "NUMB"when they come in and out of situations, how many make a JUDGEMENT CALL based upon their experience... I would like to REMIND you all; that EVERY human being is different, EVERY SITUATION is a UNIQUE experience to each individual. Most officers look at situations, and think "EH I KNOW THIS SYMPTOM, I HAVE SEEN IT BEFORE, I AM GOING TO DEAL WITH IT THIS WAY". From that way of thinking that is how they MAKE MISTAKES. They make their own judgment calls without EXAMINING HISTORY, or for that matter they make take their own personal situation (family, friend, etc...) and base the judgment call consciously because of it. What are you talking about? Is this is a sermon, a manifesto, or just a bellow of rage? -
I learned a lot from that thread, and it was a most welcome contribution by riverwind. I would never have taken the time to look closely at the specifics of these nonsensical truthie claims, but I'm glad I did. Watching riverwind and others taking the time to refute comprehensively each and every silly claim was an affirmation of common sense and reality. It's nice to see in detail just how flawed, faulty and patched together the truthies nonsense is. Wouldn't want to see a dozen threads like that, but I sure enjoyed it.

Troop surge is working
ScottSA replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
According you - Naser was Nazi - and so on. This is a lie. What do you mean "this is a lie."? No it's not. In fact it's so not that you're a liar if you say it is. You said: "nationalism is just an aspect of nazism", and you said it in a context that equated the two or at least associated causality. Since according to you nationalism is a manifestation of nazism, Jerry is right in pointing out that by that criteria Nasser the nationalist was a nazi, but no better a nazi than Mahatma Ghandhi. You know it's true. You said it. If it's not a lie and all the puffery and bluff you can produce can't make it a lie, what bit of your brain allows you to think that you can just deny reality by claiming "it's a lie"? What magical powers do you think you have that you can just erase reality and replace it with another version of reality, even in the face of the obvious? Is this truthie desease spreading? -
How come some people can't laugh at themselves?

One of the better written pieces on conspiracy theories and conspiracy theorists. I wish it were possible for Poly and his conspiracy buddies to grasp the fact of their own suspension of rationality in favor of a fixation on mythology. If only they could let the penny drop in their minds and discover the joy of looking around at a world that wasn't run by shadowy nefariata, if they could just 'get it'. And reality may intrude once they move out of mom's basement and get jobs, assuming they are employable, but it's unlikely that it ever will and it's unlikely for all the reasons this guy suggests. I took a few snippets out of a very long article, which is "Part II". Part I is good too, and there's a link on the page to it if you want to read it. Both are long, so read them when you have time. I’ve met a number of these people. I know this is harsh, but I’m sick of watching the damage they are doing to this civilization: these people are, to a man, complete losers. Losers. They are desperate and sad people who need to believe in some dark secret to give meaning to their lives. On the Kennedy assasination: On the moon landing "hoax": On 911: On demolition ------- All of this conspiracy nonsense comes after the fact. What we saw on those days was clear and vital and unmistakably obvious. In the case of the Kennedy assassination we are asked to believe – against all physical evidence to the contrary – what a few professional witnesses recall for pay ten or twenty or thirty years after the fact. Some guy who claims to see a puff of smoke on the grassy knoll is now a world-wide celebrity and not just some dude with time on his hands on a November afternoon. (And don't be deterred by the fact that a musket firing black powder was the last firearm that emitted "a puff of smoke;" perhaps Kennedy was murdered by a re-animated Stonewall Jackson. Prove it didn't happen!) http://www.ejectejecteject.com/archives/000140.html

Excuse me, but I have a life, not a "lifestyle". I work, I pay taxes, I shop at the grocery store, I support local charities, and volunteer my efforts on national political issues. I send my kids off to school each morning after making breakfast and picking out shirts and pants and jumpers. I fold laundry while I watch "Desperate Housewives". I've buried both a parent and a spouse. I worry about inflation and the economy, I wonder if I should get four yards of mulch delivered this summer or five yards. I have to fix one of the downspouts from my gutters. I arrange play dates and sleep overs and birthday parties for my kids. I worry about their future. I'm concerned about Iraq and Afghanistan. I wonder if I'm saving enought for retirement. I have a dozen projects to finish at the office before my kids and I go on vacation next week. I have a car battery to jump this weekend and about four or five things to pick up at Home Depot tomorrow afternoon. I have to aerate and fertilize my lawn. I've soccer practice this weekend. And my kids have sewing lessons. I absolutely have to take my recyclables to the town dump this weekend. I make an effort every day to be a good role model for my kids. If you did half the things I do each day as a single parent, I would be impressed. But you probably have a wife at home who handles 70% of this stuff while you drink beer and slovenly moan against gays and how their "fag" agenda is demeaning your existence. Cripes. Have some honor. Gain some self respect. Develop a sense of self worth on your own time, I've got enough on my plate to do it for you. Yes, I've got a fag agenda. It's called getting through each day. It's called just being seen as a person and being treated no different by the government I fund than someone who did nothing to earn a a place in life where he can call me "abnormal". Just who in the h*ll do you think you are? What have you done to earn your special status as "normal"? Being born straight? Spare me - there are more abnormal freaks who are straight than you'd ever find in a gay bar on sake and karoake night. I think it's pretty clear that I'm the normal one. If anything, I think it's up to you to show you're even equal to someone like me. Thrilling and heart tugging post, and I'm sure you're quite normal. Your sexual appetites are not, however. Which is as it may be, and I really don't care as long as you don't show up in my kid's school preaching to them that your sexual appetites are just peachy and "normal". I'm sure you won't, so there is nothing more we need to discuss. I don't walk around all puffed out about being hetero, and if you choose to publicize your homosexuality, prepare to be challenged on it by me at least.

I-man - what do you think about his remarks?
ScottSA replied to RB's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Let's come out and admit that Black culture has turned Black women into whores. Christ, Black culture has turned women into hos, men into niggahs, and the totality into a ghetto culture that proudly refuses to come out of the sewer lest it be mistaken for whitey, all the while cheered on by Blacks activist whores of the worst kind. Talk about a lost race. -
So hold on, everyone else on this thread was able to understand it with the exception of yourself... Please use the word "you" in a sentence like this. Using "yourself" is improper and sounds like an uneducated lout attempting to sound polished.
