  1. This entire topic is a pile of hooey. The thrust is that Stephen Harper invited terrorism to Canada by being a puppet of Obama against ISIS. Garbage. Just a bit of reading of the facts regarding how broad the International Coalition against ISIS actually is will attest to that.....and yes, Canada is playing its usual small but meaningful part.... 2. This thread's been pretty quiet since that last EKOS poll......
  3. I like the way he has earned the respect of leaders around the world with a consistent, principled and determined approach. Angela Merkel - de-facto leader of the European Union and Stephen Harper are best buddies. Commonwealth countries admire him - the UK, Australia, New Zealand. And of course New Zealand. Who doesn't like him? Well.....Russia and Putin of course, Iran........
  4. A Mainstreet poll for Ontario shows some strength for the Conservatives - with the NDP falling behind......and it appears that Trudeau is starting to pay the price for having Kathleen Wynne as a cheerleader....
  5. Well it definitely should....... It's called "perspective". As an example, the Left sings the praises of Obama on Climate Change. Even though he's done it all with smoke and mirrors, they compare his "actions" with whatever Harper does - or doesn't do......referring to Canada as an embarrassment. Where is the reverse outrage and condemnation of the refugee issue?
  6. The refugee issue has been front and center in our domestic politics.....yet when I raised this Topic in Federal Politics, the moderator transferred it to Canada/US Relations with no explanation. The topic was raised to show that no matter how much criticism the Tories have taken, they have been ahead of Obama every step of the way and when viewed in the perspective of what the US has not done, our approach seems pretty darn good. Since the Left in Canada are clearly in love with Obama - look for this to be another "move along, nothing to see here". An explanation from the Forum Monitor would be nice.
  7. Another person who got fooled by the headline. Those figures are for the number of refugees from all around the world - not just Syria......
  8. The Obama Administration has just announced that they will take in 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year. That's right - a country 10 times the size of Canada can't even match us. How's that for perspective? If Harper's "lack of action" is "shameful" - what do we say about Obama? Do you think the media will pick up on it? 9. Yet spending went way up over 10 years. I guess that's where the incompetence and corruption came in.
  10. This is just another timely slag (coincidental of course) at the Conservative government.. Starting off by whining about the census and then highlighting a "non-partisan" report by "Voices".....which of course is totally partisan once you start to read it. No mention of previous governments or the McGuinty/Wynne gang........not worth the time of day.
  11. Now you're talking.......you only have to look at Ontario to see how government has expanded, billions upon billions wasted on incompetent management (ehealth), ideological stubbornness (Green Energy, All Day Kindergarten), union kowtowing (Teachers) - and yes, throw in a bit/lot of corruption (Sudbury, Gas Plants). And now - they are on the cusp of selling off Hydro1 - a catastrophe in the making that was not even mandated in the last election. How about raining property taxes in Toronto to fix some roads and bridges? As a glaring example. Toronto shares a northern boundary with Markham at Steeles avenue. As you approach Steeles from Toronto, the roads are filled with potholes and pothole patches. As soon as you cross Steeles, the roads become smooth. Cities don't want to raise taxes. Next in line is the Provinces - and they don't want to pay the piper. So they all whine to the Feds. If the various levels would have long term plans to look after their houses - their own responsibilities, we'd all be far better off.
  12. Predictable. With the stimulus, the NDP said the government was not spending enough.....and the Liberals said they were not spending it fast enough. Now of course, they are complaining about the ensuing deficits. With refugees, the NDP is saying the government is not admitting enough of them and the Liberals are saying they are not admitting them fast enough. But hey - that's politics I guess.
  13. You're fully entitled to your opinion - that's the beauty of Canada - but it would be even better if you'd respect the opinions of others - especially if they represent the vast majority. I haven't seen anyone calling you stupid......
  14. Maybe because it's a dumb analogy? Your use of the term "uncomfortable" is misplaced. People may indeed be uncomfortable or even afraid to be near a biker. Canadians are not "uncomfortable" in that respect - they just don't think it's right. You can go ahead and spin yourself in circles but there is no denying that Canadians simply have limits on their "accommodation" - and really - is it too much to ask?
  15. Doesn't make any difference - we're in an election cycle and when you're on the side of the vast, vast majority of Canadians - and the opposing parties are not - well, it makes sense to keep it alive as an issue.
  16. Because the Charter is a living, breathing set of aspirations - rights are not absolute. Our forefathers - and our updated Charter, could not then and will not in the future - be able to envision every circumstance that might be subject to interpretation. When the Charter came into effect, do you really think they would have thought covering one's face would be at issue when taking the oath? What position do you think the courts would have taken back in 1982? If different from today, would that make it right for today? As I said, "rights" are not absolute - Canadians intuitively understand this.
  17. Spin it all you want.....almost 90% of Canadians disagree with you. That should tell you something.....but while you're entitled to your opinion - those 90% are also entitled to theirs.
  18. This is an issue where the usual suspects are hugely out of step with just about all Canadians. We ask so very little of newcomers in return for the bounties, safe haven and accommodation that they receive. Surely, this small gesture could be a reciprocal measure of thanks. The vast, vast majority of Canadians think so. Why can't the small minority accept this overwhelming view with some grace? http://globalnews.ca/news/1894770/most-canadians-say-faces-shouldnt-be-covered-at-citizenship-ceremonies-poll/
  19. Harper is such a Goody Two Shoes - he should have just wiped all the hard drives like the McGuinty/Wynne gang. When will he learn?
  20. It goes even beyond that....it reflects the repulsion of society as a whole to certain heinous crimes.
  21. And you find that surprising? That's what lowering taxes is supposed to do - accelerate and grow the economy. And guess what raising taxes does? It's a balancing act - because there is a point of diminishing returns.......but to think that raising taxes will have no effect on the economy is naive. If it makes you feel better, lets take action to reduce our GDP so you can reclaim that "dropped 30%".
  22. There do seem to be crimes that are so heinous and have over-whelmingly obvious evidence to support them - that the Death Penalty seems appropriate. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the sanctioned killing/death/termination of Paul Bernardo or Robert Pickton.
  23. I think the moderator didn't like the tone - or the poster had second thoughts.
  24. What's your point. Sure - a couple of million here and there - promise this - change your mind or come up short - and then do something else. But try that with a major election promise.....try it with the $15 a day Daycare Program for example - or Income Splitting - or the TFSAs - or cutting taxes in general. You can juggle the nickles and dimes in the background but when you have an election platform - you'd better deliver on it's major components.
