  1. Great idea, I'll support it. It's not like the Western Conservatives or Central Canada/Ontario Liberals care about atlantic canada, can't blame them either, if we are dumb enough not to vote as a block we deserve to be ignored...maybe we're all masacists here, preferring to complain about ontario and alberta politicans ignoring us? The success of the small unified voice from western canada is a perfect example why we should cooperate here in atlantic canada and vote as a block, even Ontario is being dominated by them because they are splitting their vote too.
  2. Maybe the title of the article should say, 'NDP Doesn't Want To Lose Seats With Election' ? They have the most to potentially lose in an election of the major parties, fine by me, like most Canadians we don't want an election that changes nothing significantly in Parliament.
  3. We already have a school system for the poor here in Nova Scotia, it's our public system.
  4. Is this the beginning of a Tea Party movement in Canada? Throwing Conservatives out who are fiscally irresponsible (or C.O.I.N's as I like to call them 'COnservative In Name only'. I'm sure tired of the so called federal Conservatives deficit spending. Is there any 'Conservative' party willing to be fiscally responsible, or is the Wild Rose party the only one?
  5. Judging by the recent goings on in Alberta I'ld say some Canadian Tea Parties are on the rise.
  6. With a 5 year projection of balancing the books they have made it clear they have no real intention of balancing the books Flaherty cannot see 5 days into canada's economic future. The Liberals are looking better and better these days, I'm surprised they haven't captilized on the Chretian/Martin years of balanced budgets for proposing an alternative to Harper, they seem to be pushing deficit spending as a means to get elected which isn't winning anyone over from the Center.
  7. Would the Conservatives lose or gain more votes by propsing we live within our means? I know traditionally more spending wins more votes but in this day and age would you say they might actually win more votes buy cutting the size of government? Many independent voters are concerned about the deficit, wouldn't it be a small net gain taking this position, and have the ndp and liberals fight over the deficit spending public sector supporters?
  8. Federal politicans from around the world have shown no ability to stop spending in an unsustainable manner. The only time this changes is when they achieve bankruptcy and have no choice but to alter their spending habits. At that point they will allow the private sector in to operate freely in canada and their will be a two tier system for rich and poor. Canada is following the same path as several other countries, our oil resources are just prolonging this point, give us another 10 years and we will 'achieve' the state Greece, Ireland, Italy and California are in (we'll have lots more company in 10 years too). If they just allowed the private sector in now we would have a much better public healthcare system in 10 years time, guess people need to learn the hard way, there's no way any politican can propose this nowadays.
  9. RHINO is the acronym for Republicans in Name Only, used to describe so called republicans down south who spent like drunken sailors and increased the size of government. The Tea Party is challenging these RHINO's and even overthrowing some of them. Would our Conservatives be considered RHINO's after the deficit spending for the last 5 years and Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page recently says the government has yet to unveil a strategy for cuts it needs to achieve to balance the budget in five years. I'ld like to propose a Canadian acronym for Harper's Conservatives, C.O.I.N. 'Conservative Only In Name'. Is it fair to say Harper's Conservative are mirroring the old school republicans down south who were fiscally irresponsible and we need some new blood in the Conservative party, or some Tea Parties to challenge them?
  10. Is it possible to place TSE:Potash (Canada) or NYSE:Mosiac (USA) in a Tax Free Saving Account and avoid the 15% tax or at least get it refunded? I was looking at fertizlers for stock value growth potential and some dividends. TSE:Potash (Canada) seemed safe but I was also considering NYSE:Mosiac (USA) which seems to have a much better dividend and potential for growth? Can anyone else recommend good Canadian dividend stocks?
  11. I love nothing more than to work hard with a competent employer to earn tax dollars to pay for these organizations to do such amazing work, they deserve a raise for working so hard on this pressing matter. What does Iggy have to say about this organization and the double standards it provides to vocal special interest groups? I'll vote for the first party claiming they'ld get rid of these bureaucrats.
  12. This was politics at its worse, for the Democrats and Left leaning media to use this as political ammunition was disgusting. Do we really need government to censor what people say because they know what's best for use to hear better than ourselves?
  13. The Liberals ignore the West and the media ignores it, the Conservatives ignore other parts of Canada and they get roasted, this double standard is getting tired. The Liberals may be shut out of 2 provinces next election, if the Conservatives had that stigma you'ld never hear the end of it in the media. Are the Liberals not more narrow minded and extreme than the Conservatives by not achieving a strong national representation in parlament like the Conservatives?
  14. Check this story out from the cbc http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2011/01/13/homophobia-pointe-claire.html , talk about an elitist group of biased journalist supporting their own slants
  15. I didn't know we pay taxes on american or foreign dividends, how are we taxed? I was looking at Emerera for the dividend and placing it in a Tax Free Saving Account to avoid any taxes on the dividends.
  16. These forms provide info for private sector businesses so they can market strategically to you. Lets's trim some federal deficit fat and get rid of it. Besides, it's already a fact that the majority of people filling out forms enter misleading info deliberately.
  17. Economist are predicting another 10% gain for the stock markets this year. Seeing as they have a vested interest in encouraging us to invest I'ld appreciate some recommendations on whether getting back into the stock market is a good idea now or if I'm late to the party. Is it too late after the massive run up the last year, should I wait for a big or small correction, or is it generally a safe bet this year? I'm looking at power utility companies like Emera and resources for food like potash in Sask. Is it reckless investing in them after such large gains last year? Should I wait it out for a major dip in these companies next year?
  18. re "If his plans are to get rid of the Liberal party" Come on, these conspirary theories about the Conservatives are wearing thin, find some new material to discredit them. Speculating about elections is great fun for slow news days or lazy journalist. in a minority government everyone is prepared to go to the polls at any time.
  19. The world juniors was decided in dramatic fashion last night when Russia stormed back with 5 third period goals for a 5-3 win. How did they do it, in the third period their whole team were faster and stronger that the whole canadian team after being dominated the first 2 periods. Am I paranoid, it all most looked like they were all suddenly juiced up on something, or did the whole Canadian team mysteriously all run out of gas and make the russians look that much better? With eastern europe's and russia's track record on doping I wouldn't put it by them to add something to their water bottles that current doping tests could not discover.
  20. I agree, that's just a scare tactic for public sector lobbiest, a fairly successful tactic for many years. Hopefully they won't think up one equally good in the years to come as we wise up to this disception or dare I say hopefully voters will actually wise up and support politicans who propose we live within our means?
  21. Do we really need scientific consensus and public consensus on temperature patterns to come to the conclusion the pollution is a bad thing? For arguements sake let's say the weather patterns are natural. Do you still want to pump the air full of pollution or operate a business that is wastefull (ie. inefficient)? 'Environmentally friendly' business practices in Europe were not driven by the fear of elevated temperatures but innovators trying to work more efficiently and cost effectively. In north america we look at it as an extra cost piled on businesses, no wonder we are among the most unproductive workers in the western world.
  22. It's not a problem with Christmas, we are consumers throughout the year, just buying more before Christmas. I too am tired of our shallow consumerism driven lifestyle and have been slowly starting to enjoy Christmas for more tradional reasons as I grow older and have become a parent, enjoying the company of loved ones and helping the needy (more donations are made before Christmass than any other time of year). It's your choice what to do at Christmas time.
  23. You must have a great insider source or be listening to someone who's been smoking some awesome wacky tobacky, I'ld love to hear Peter Kelly inform us he's a Conservative, it would be ground breaking news to those who have been electing him to council the last 20 years...anyone wishing to commit political suicide would be affiliated with the Federal or Provincial Conservatives in Halifax. I must of missed all the news for the last 20years highlighting Kelly's fondness for business (Halifax is now one of the least private sector friendly places in Canada) and fiscally responsible spending practices (NS/Halifax has among the highest taxes in canada), are these facts not the polar oppositie of Conservative? Or maybe you use a 'Bizarro' dictionary, where Conservative has the opposite meaning from those of us in the real world? Perhaps you can provide some details highlighting his Conservative nature, preferably from this century? Mayor's and councillors typically do not associate themselves with provincial or federal parties, it hinders their ability to feed at the trough when your hand outs are coming from another party.
  24. Great story on 60 minutes last night highlighting State financial situations, looks a like a few of them will be forced to make draconian cuts this year. The New Jersey rep said he's taking on big and powerful public unions and ironically argued the cutbacks are needed if they want a pension 10 years from now! These states in dire situations sounded better off the Ontario and Quebec, looks like 2011 will be the year of strikes and cutbacks, a little taste of Europe, I'll give 1-2 more years for Ontario to bite the bullet, and 3-4 for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Quebec can hold out longer with big juicy federal transfer payments from western canada .
  25. As with any service field, it is unpredicable how long each patient(customer) will take to address. If you deal with 20-30 patients a day most will fit in the alloted 15minute scheduled time but all it takes is 10% of the people to go over and then everyone is affected downstream. I usually try to book appointments first thing in the morning, less chance for delays then. This could only be alleviated with an economies of scale model used by most telephone service reps, customers are serviced by the next available rep, not their own personnel special rep, but everyone will of course argue they need to have a doctor that knows them and a new doctor cannot treat them as well, personally I don't agree with this as most doctors are highly skilled to assess you on the spot, not without knowing your lifestory.
