Anger was long ago replaced by Apathy. There is no voter revolt on the horizon. Just less participation.

PM to appoint Tory insiders to Senate

Up until now???The bad apples just arrived? -
No doubt this will be a Liberal NDP battle, and this should come as no surprise.....
-
I don't see the NDP in any position they haven't had to deal with throughout their entire CCF/NDP existence. The facts are that the Liberals were scared under Dion to have an election, were scared under Ignatieff to call the CPC to the carpet in January 2009 and quite frankly, got scared in June, and appear to be waffling and scared of election now. Eventually, this will have to end. None of which changes the circumstances or electoral opportunities of failures for the NDP. Infact what is interesting is the amount of attention the NDP has been receiving as of late, but really its not coming from media, its coming from pundits, and most interesting hardcore Liberal Pundits. They NDP could do well to receive the coverage in the media as seen on MLW.

Don't hold your breath.

Someone is optimistic... LOL. I guess I should have put two polls. 1) who is going to win and 2) Who would you vote for. Not that the voter isn't entitled to the opinion that Heller will pull off a massive upset. I view the NDP a distant 3rd in this riding based upon previous election results.
-
I wonder if this is going to have any effect on this by election. It is the riding that the Ex-Ontario AG Bryant held until recently. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/689220 Former Ontario attorney general Michael Bryant is being questioned by police this morning after a cyclist was struck and killed last night.

A charge has to come.
-
This is essentially a Liberal Stronghold and the Liberals proved that they could go into PC turf and oust a Leader. Is there and Upset in the making or is the riding HST safe.

Harper created the illusion that things were far better then they were. Which is expected when lying in the middle of an election campaign. Of course things were going to hell in a handbasket and they wanted control before it all started to unravel and those surplusses gone deficit hit the public eye. The irony later to be that Flahertys budget in November 2008, didn't address any economic concerns but were a hodgepodge of Conservative ideology for taking out the opposition Liberal party. However, as the election was underway, and data kept rolling in it was clear to all that the country was in deep economic trouble and Harper choose to portray the image of ... Don't change the government... let us keep a firm grip on the till. Of course it was Harper that put that till up for grabs.

You must have been out of the country....Holidaying with Ignatieff perhaps. That article from July essentially proved that the Bank of Canada is on Crack. Less then 3 weeks after 3 consecutive quarters of economic loss and MASSIVE job loss, no one took this report seriously and the BOC turned tail and ran for the hills. The recession is not over, until a quarter of growth is recorded and then it has to be followed up with a 2nd quarter of growth. Summer is always flat, thus neither losses nor gains are substantial. Job losses continue and while slowing are still occurring at an unprecedented rate surpassing the temporary job losses of the 80s, that had well recovered within the same time frame. Shortly before Harper took over, the job losses were significant, but masked over by low tech part time jobs. There isn't a strong local economy and economic numbers that come in, in the future will mean more to bean counters and finance people then anyone who is looking for long term employment and a decent wage.

Then you accept and support Harpers patronage appointments and their role in the Senate. Which is fine for those who want to maintain the same corrupt system . -
We didn't need one last year either, but that didn't prevent Harper from forcing a unwanted election upon us. Its difficult to put faith in a PM and his party that break the spirit of their own election laws. He lost the gunfight in June. It was a big boner. Harper not only gave him the "Go Ahead, Make My Day" you could use just about every Clint Eastwood cliche to the counter of Ignatieffs challenge. If you believe in something you don't back down the way Ignatieff did. And before Ignatieff challenged Harper on EI in June, there wasn't a soul out there who believed Ignatieff take EI to the nth Degree of an election. Harper called his bluff and Iggy Lost. That didn't leave much for summer to talk about on the BBQ circuit. With no hype over the summer, Iggy needs another issue to pull the rug on the government. And quite Frankly if he didn't have the courage to do it last January right after the Patronage Appointments to the Senate, he won't do it on this round either. The CPC have been effective in changing strategies. The CPC gave up on the Elected Senate last year, and at their convention decided it was time to ram in a bunch of hacks. The Economy is still a pile of poop. Yet to hear Baird talk about this isn't the right time, is in itself timeless. He didn't care about the economy last year, and its doubtful he makes this statement about an election based on the economy today. Both parties are still looking for light at the end of the tunnel. Each party is gazing down it to see if it's brighter or darker. As soon as one see light... it will be a snap election. And yes, Iggy will look at the polls.

The Conservatives have been a mediocre government since 2006. Harper as both opposition leader and PM has to many personal "issues". His saving grace is the mediocre opposition. I see no way of stirring the pot and coming up with something better. A CPC government would be outta control and untrustworthy. I have no interest in a government that puts Doug Finley on the tax payers payroll as a bonus to do work for the Conservative Propoganda Machine. And that is possibly why the CPC can't break into Majority terroritory. Many items in the paper that bring them good news was actually forced on them by the opposition and many items that bring them bad news are of their own making. However, some good propoganda coups in the Artic. Harper had a good summer, and felt no pressure from the Liberals. Which brings us back to the headline.... Liberals Agonize again. Personally as much as I dislike this Minority government, it is far better then giving Harper a Blank Cheque. It also is keeping Liberal Arrogance somewhat in cheque, and unfortuneately, the moment they see power, everything is forgotten. As far as an election, some seats will change, the CPC will still come up short on a Majority, and the LPC may make some increases, but continue to be faced with the same prospects they have faced since 2006. Status quo is the order of the day.
-
That would be the same position the Liberals support. The difficulty is that the Liberals are full of hot air and wouldn't do anything differently if in power. Many times during their reign similar events occurred with no a wit of interest from the LPC. The NDP haven't the ability to effect change. Its not unusual for the Liberals to sing from the same songbook as the NDP when it suits their needs, which is to attain power. Economically there is little difference between the Liberals and the Conservatives except that the Liberals could run a surplus and the Conservatives a deficit with regards to running a government. Mindyou, the Liberals Stole 48 Billions from EI which is why they can't call an election on the EI file. Any picking on political parties is often well deserved, and one of the best reasons for me to come on MLW.

You missed the other post where I said it wasn't a bad PR move. However, that doesn't let Ignatieff off the hook by redefining torture to a level of torture he feels is acceptable. Regardless, I am certain Ignatieff won't be speaking about his positions on Torture or Naked Aggression at these fund raisers either.

That certainly overlooks a number of issues. One is a Union can keep out the 60 hour work week, or at least maintain the 44 hour work week, if not a 40 hour week. As for the Labour board, if one considers how many Labour violations there are, it is rather absurd to believe the Labour Board will address all the violations, let alone can many people afford to go down this path. Infact, having watched Management, which are also employees, have a difficult time maintaining the funds to take on a company and have to drop out after 6 months, its difficult to believe that either Labour laws or the system is going to take car of everything, anymore then it is reasonable to believe that a Union is going to solve all problems. To suggest that Unions are no longer needed is naive. One factor is that many individuals have no interest in rocking the boat with the company with regards to health and safety violations or other incidents. And while employees are not safe from company reprisals even within a union environment, those individuals feel just that much more secure when bringing forth an issue. Only the people within a Union or those wanting to be in a Union can answer your question on the need of having a Union. The growth of temp agency abuse has given rise to greater interest in Unionization, although I highly doubt the Unionst have picked up on this or know how to organize full time permanent agency workers. Labour laws are good, but there is alot of pressure to backtrack on the ESA and that has occurred in the past. The results of many of those changes are only now making there way through the workplace.

I also don't see it as an issue. The Fundraiser is a separate affair to raise money to get their candidate Elected. I don't believe this has any traction, even within the Local media.
-
I thought the Liberal Dinner was about fundraising for the Liberal Party.

He supports Pre Emptive War. He justifies torture, is an apologist for torture and presented the "lesser Evil" while Abu Graib was happening. The NDP has talking points???
-
hahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha
-
Then the NDP better get talking, because most of the critisism of Ignatieff comes from his Peers, and then from groups opposed to Ignatieff in his first leadership bid and of course, the Tories smell blood on this one two.http://www2.macleans.ca/2009/08/30/cheney-...heikh-mohammed/ Ignatief was weak on torture and wrong on pre emptive war. That's your defence... LOL.... Ignatieff is a master of double speak and thus a perfect Liberal. He supports pre emptive war. THis isn't new. And yes, Ignatieff supported and justified water boarding of Khalid Shiek Mohammud. The chickens are coming home to roost.

I highly doubt this is a bad PR move.
