I don't think this factored into the 2006 performance of the CPC. The election was the Liberals to lose and they should have collapsed and they didn't.

Who should have the Liberals made leader?
madmax replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harpers flip flop with Emersons floor crossing and Cabinet Position along with the Senate appointment could well have set a record for flip flopping. I was trying to figure out if the Liberals change on the GST and NAFTA flipflops happened faster. But then they really didn't mean it when they campaigned against it. Just another lie. Then I thought about the CPCs campaign, and figured , just another lie. They never intended to do it differently either. Or certainly not until after they stack the deck. So, a flip flop is when you actually believe something and intend to change it one way and go another. Income Trusts are definitely a flip flop for the CPC. -

I read this two ways, and it still reads like a bad dream. -

Didn't the CPC have opposed messages in French for Quebecors then for Western Canada? -

Remember how many times Harper had to flip burgers at barbecues. This was just to prove to people he was a human. -
Is it time for our charter to be re-ratified

Hmm, the War of 1812 is missing. Guess we can arbitrarily remove something above to fit this in. -
I am not certain I understand. I spent time in Venezuela before Chavez.
-
Yup Courtesy of Wiki.
-
Both men have been in close elections. Bushes first election was the most controversial in Florida. Chavez has had close opposition campaigns and one US backed coup attempt. Yet he plays to the crowd and gets the votes.
-
Chavez is pounding the Oil Drum. And why should he not take verbal shots at Bush, Bush has supported rallies against him and backed a failed coup attempt.
-
Well, I am not certain of the % that bother to Register in the US or of those who do Register then bother to vote. I know, that if I had to go 200 meters out of my way to vote, I just wouldn't do it. Wait a minute, I drive 2 miles to vote, what's this guy doing tricking me with metric.

If we do this, should we pay them this time?

In Ontario, who would you vote for Premier?

I see Hampton as having stuck out some pretty hard times in the political wilderness. The battles of the previous elections have been PC vs Lib only. -

You want to elaborate on just what they have done? Public Sector workers are split between the Conservatives and the Liberals. The riding belong to Toby Barret Provincially, a Conservative. Federally to Diane Findlay, A useless Federal Conservative, known in the region as "Where's Diane?" McGuinty won't get any support in Caledonia or surrounding areas because of the SWEETHEART deal they gave Henco, and then how abysmally they have handled things for the local inhabitants. Sweet Dreams. -

Not a bad crystal ball. -
I don't know if you are speaking of Canada or the US. But it is really really easy to vote in Canada. E voting may come, but I am not a supporter of it.

Funny how effective those attack adds were. The Liberals doing a little better in the polls, elect Dion and get another boost. Then BAMMO, negative adds, and some weak performances in QP and Dion needs to be replaced. It was the adds, and the Liberals inability to counter them. Dion will be toast. -
Garth Turner To Join The Greens?
madmax replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Forum Heading and Garth Turners Blog is totally unrelated. Who is "replying to Garth Turner to join the Greens?" I thought he would have hinted or something, but there is nothing there. -

Is this true? I don't speak French, but I was under the impression the Stephen Harpers French was very good. As for Dion, I watched him ask a question, and his timing in English was completely off. It was a long question and by the time he was done, I couldn't figure out just what he was trying to point out. Then Stephen Harper gave a textbook answer. But I have to wonder, if you can't ask the question well in English, and it is important, then say it in French. -
Well, there goes my conspiracy theory.
-
I have had it where they have called, then after asking questions for 15 minutes, say, oh, we have enough of those, and thank me and hang up.

Wilber is correct. The Liberals got 40.8% of the vote. 12997185 people voted and 5252031 voted Liberal.

To be a PM, do you have to be a BULLY?
madmax replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That myth was ruined almost from the moment the CPC got in and Stephen Harper became Prime Minister. The shocked look on MPs faces when David Emerson was given a Cabinet Position and a Party Bagman given a Senate Position in charge of the portfolio that the sponsorship scandel derived from. The only thing that changed was the Spoiled asses. It has been an never ending battle to change the politicization of Immigration. Finally an independant commission was put in place 3 years ago to promote people on the basis of merit. But the Conservatives and Diane Findley wants to go back to the good ole days of Patronage Appointments. I am getting Conservative people talking the talking while hiding the walk. While the element of Reform in the Party needed to be tamed a little, it is clear to me they have been completely silenced. -
The Federal Liberals were not at risk because of little opposition from anywhere. I concur. I believe that is accurate as well. Well, that was the problem, many nurses couldn't get full time work or even get work, and the negative opinions of their worth, forced their hand to look south. And then they found the city of gold. I knew of nurses whom had great difficulty finding work in Ontario during this era, couldn't manage to make ends meet, and were borderline for welfare. Then they went south, and discovered that they could make alot of money and that Canadian Nurses were in great demand in Southern States were you could go from Job to job. So, while you may consider that they are overpaid, the "market" to the south of us suggests different. Touche. You would have thought they were Tommy Douglas I fully understand this, and believe these issues have been covered in Health Care threads. Now, back to the topic??? Harper Accuses Liberals.....
