  1. Written rules as such? No But you have people doing their job overseas interviewing and assessing the applicants, so likely the one who doesnt makes the cut. But then again, the Burqa wearing folk who come here are refugees so there isnt much choice attributed to who we let in. This whole thread exists for a few people some are worried about, why it would almost seem as if there is an agenda out there.
  2. Well, I did say the family made the decisions, knwoing my family, Pedo's and religious fanatics would be out under the guidelines, application cancelled . Religious people , like Catholics Muslims and Jews would be welcome. Those sneaky Buddhists tho.....too shady
  3. 28 games MAX , it can end earlier as you know. That conveniently ignores the years that they werent bad, including the Conf finals. But yea....apart from those years there have been some lousy teams. And poor mngmt wasnt the problem for the 70's, it was a horrible owner who wouldnt allow anything to be done, including hiring good mngmt. But I wont ignore the part that has contributed to the LEafs woes, poor mngmt. I havent stated the lEafs have been this way due to bad luck, but have said bad luck can appear, fro any team any where, any time. We both know luck is a weird thing,to be good you have to have luck and to be lucky you have to be good.
  4. How would I feel? Um....its a family decision, which means the family (which I am partof) made the decision
  5. You do have options Argus, you can go see another specialist and you can access the UCC or walk in clinic who may provide a better sounding board and referral.
  6. Nonethless quite true. Yes...well anyone can apply to join my family. It amounts passing the standards that have been set up. We do place a limit on the number who can join. Should they pass, then they get a family passport , we call them adoption papers.
  7. Freely chose. The very same as everyone else in this country, including you.
  8. What did you do to 'earn' your way in? Lemme guess....you just popped out and was given it? Well earned you would say huh? But no, anyone else has only to do nothing but apply and meet the rquirements as set out by immigration Canada. Oh we have had terrorism before , we have had many issues before and we did quite well. To think that the sky is falling now is folly. The Const and Charter stand tall and hold the principles we as a nation want . No, you have that backwards ...completely I might add. The Parl of Canada proposes law and the SCC will decide if it does or does not work under our charter. You may have missed the two most recent smackdowns the sitting govt has had n the past coule of years. Good to know the SCC has your back. Mine too ! Well, it certainly is a step in the direction of our Govt telling people what they can wear or not, which of course isnt valid under our Charter, and makes it a bad step. IF they can do so, hopefully they forbid our leaders from looky dorky in a cowboy hat and an ill fitting vest.
  9. Plenty of excitement abounds these days....for supporters of other teams...not so much mine. But , as I said the other day , it can flip flop daily. Calgary, Winnipeg...in . LA out....tomorrow? Who knows. Ottawa...hey overthere here comes some luck as it were, plays Toronto three times in the next 2 weeks. Call me crazy but maybe the moribund Leafs wake up for a game or two and make Ott work for a win. Sure as hell didnt against SJ last night. But then Ott gets Pitt (maybe good news as they suck right now) and then trouble, Rangers twice, Lightning , Wings.
  10. Have you ever heard of critical thinking? Do they skip that in Teachers College? Maybe you dont know due to not going or yuo skipped that class. Anyhow.... So you think a sporting tournament is silly and it being a waste of time. I suppose then that all sporting events is silly. Heres where critical thinking comes in to play......The OTFPF is and was a huge investor in sports and at one time owned the Maple Leafs which paid them a very handsome profit. And teachers pensions were paid from that. Whoops.....didnt think about that did you?
  11. I was going to post the RCMP report, in which it clearly states Native woman disappear and get murdered far beyond the rest of the women in this country.
  12. I wish Calgary gets in, same with Winnipeg and Ottawa. Makes for better veiwing for me. But what does it mean? Most pundits couldnt explain where Calgary came from, so maybe the are coming down to where they should have been all year......if not due to very hard work and some incredible luck.
  13. The NHL playoffs abound with instances of luck. If two teams beat each other up for 7 brutal games, and Edmonton gets by in four or five, thats lucky for them and they benefit. It has zero to do with hard work, Oilers werent playing the other two teams when they were beating each other game after game. All it takes is a little luck And speaking of luck............the year in question, the Western Conf saw all lower seeded teams advance, teams 5 6 7 & 8. I dont mean they got there solely on luck, but luck plays a part . I get that you dont like to say anything but crap about the Leafs/Ontario (petty BS but there ya go) , but it doesnt take much to understand that luck had them in first place late in the year, they would win games and still be outshot or outplayed. And in a bunch of games on their freefall to the basement they played games they should have won. And normally....these things do balance out. But once in awhile they don't. And on
  14. No whats ridiculous is suggesting it is using 'have to' when in fact my post said shouldnt 'have to' Well I certainly wouldnt use a minor sub set group and breka it down in some vain atempt to prove ridiculousness. Whats ridiculous is trying to. In case its lost, there are humans on earth, males and females. Ya know, you could have just asked why without the idiotic assertion. The reason is simple,in the case of a rape discussion, it is primarily men who do so. So a man going to a mtg of rape victims could see first hand the damage done , could see first hand the impact of another males behaviour. Considering there exists some men who who are quite willing to suggest that women suck it up and others who quietly agree, perhaps viewing the resultant damage would produce better results. Add to that the power most men have, politically, police wise,a nd so on , it may get better results in the long term for them to be there. I am aware of only two women who have been raped. One was a date rape drug and she has no recollection of what happened. The other was done to her while she was under the effects of alcohol. They both are tight lipped about ever talking about (for obvious reasons) but in both cases I am left wondering what the real impact is to them. I think I know, I think I can see lingering effects , self esteem and the like, choices they have subsequently made, but I dont really know In both cases, no charges, one due to time and evidence gone, the other was the Crown said there was doubt since she was drunk , bruises and other visible evidence nothwithstanding.
  15. The whole thing is rather quite fascinating. Never heard about this from anyone I know up Elmira way.
  16. it is becoming a problem for the insurance industry for reasons such as nobody seems to want to advise the compnaies that they are renting out a room(s) or any part of the house. It gets even worse when the homeowner is not on site since then the renter is left to his and her own and problems can easily crop up. Your example is a prime one. What idiot rents to a bunch of teems for a prom? Well....maybe they did not, someone of an older age did under the ruse they would be there. But I will attack that later The idea is quite good, and I suspect it will stick around and somehow someway the ins co's will respond with appropriate coverage as a rider....subject to high premiums and even higher deductible. The programme works and works pretty well. I used a similar service when I went to Australia last year for a month. Rented 3 condos without hassle, they were all that they said they were, clean, well stocked and convenient, and the in two of the rentals we met the owners who could not have been more nice. Since there was mainly just my GF and I they likely thought there should be no worries, and there certainly wasn't . But the system worked great. The rules are all pretty much the same, no noise after 11 , limits on numbers of guests staying, limits on numbers of visitors they can have, relatively high damage deposits and so on. Also, a violation of the rules (such as the Prom party)observed from the owner or a Prop mngmt person can result in immediate eviction forfeiting the rental fee and the deposit. This tends to limit the hassles anyone should have. Afterall, who wants to travel to another city, flying or driving only to be booted out ? Whatever the onwers of your example were smoking , they should have cottoned on that someone in the same city renting a place raises questions they didnt ask , nor did they do a drive by obviously. As for that insura...wait it is not insurance, the Airbnb $900,000 Host Guarantee is pretty much a sham. The devil is in the details. It does not cover any fine arts, jewellry, liability or common areas. It also states that a Police report is needed for any claim over $300. No one will bother with a Police report on almost any claim that occurs. It is not worth the hassle. It also states that the first step is to try and settle with the renter. If a simple accident/failure of item occurs , I sure as hell (as renter) wont be paying the owner. Negligence is a funny thing and most people can understand it is hard to prove . Most owners with half a brain also realize that some things just happen and is a cost of business. Handle breaks on a faucet, toaster stops working, drain blocks up, that sort of thing. And funny, but if you live in the US, you deal with Airbnb USA , if outside the US then you are contracted with Airbnb Ireland. That alone creates a lot of problems if I was an owner interested in signing up. The thing works, but as usual a bunch of folks will screw it up for others.
  17. Which we are made to understand through Immigration authorities that they attempt to weed those ones out and not issue any travel documents. I cannot agree nor disagree about the numbers, but would agree it is likely higher from some of those countries . And no, I doubt that much change occurs for 'those' people, but I do think that the exposure to Canada and our somewhat agreed values that plenty of them (women mainly)see the light going forward. Thats not to say they reach out with any regularity for help. But I certainly think their children advance the cause for equality and shuffling the old ways of misogyny/abuse to the trash bin . We have seen children face extreme punishment and death from their 1st gen parents for becoming westernized and absorbing western values and thoughts. But it remains a rarity even though we can suspect some of these parents hold pretty radical (to us) views. As that generation gets older incl the kids we know that they will become far more western. Kids want to fit in, wherever they are they will do what the other kids do.
  18. Alright, point duly noted. Do any of us know how many come to this country this way under the immigation sector vs the number who come under our obligations with respect to refugees? I have to think that the former is way smaller than the latter. The only ones who I ever see wearing it are the Somali women , who I understand are largely refugees and not migrants .
  19. If that is true but perhaps my choice of words was suspect. The broader picture I was talking about in reply to squid was that persons grave concern for a few women vs the picture painted about abuse and violence against same.
  20. Well, sorry I do not recall reading that question. However, to answer...I dont know why one would wear anything out of the ordinary. Frankly it doesnt matter a whit. Its that persons choice. I dont understand women (or men) who tattoo their lover/spouse name on their body, wear orange hair, studs up and down the face including devils horns on top.
