Yes, isn't streotyping supposed to be an activity that only a redneck engages in? How delightfully ironic!
-
Are you by chance a person who also refers to Albertans as a bunch of red necks? Stereo-type much? I'm from Alberta originally and I can attest to Dog's comments. When you talk to an Albertan, guarenteed the first or second thing that comes out of their mouth will be about "whoa the economy is booming like CRAZY there, everyone is making so much money - hey have you seen my new truck?" Albertans (not all, but generally) seem to want to direct the conversation around Alberta's wealth and boom. To me that's a people who are mostly concerned with money and tawdry displays of it. Other parts of the country are booming along quite nicely, too. But there are many more other things to talk about than your latest raise. Really? What other parts of the country are this? I talk to Albertans everyday as I live here and am one and the only thing that comes up is the weather and how bad traffic is getting. Sounds like the ugle emotion of envy is colouring alot of people's view on the province. There really isn't anythign to be envious about. Alot of people sarcifice alot in order to move here, like I did. Maybe you guys just need new friends?

Canada still mum on the Saddam execution

1) Not true. http://www.justice.gc.ca/en/news/nr/2005/doc_31756.html 2) Even if we as a nation had not taken a position as stated above, I still wonder why Harper was so adament about speaking out against what Chinese people do to their own people in their own courts... if that's how he really feels about what goes on "out there." Are you soft in the head? Here ya go: IT WAS A CANADIAN CITIZEN BEING HELD IN A CHINESE JAIL THAT CDN CONSULAR PEOPLE HAVE NOT BEEN ALLOWED TO MEET WITH AS CHINA DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT HE IS CANADIAN. -

Jerry, you think you were adding balance? please! I moved to AB in 1996 from NB. Quite a different place to be sure. I learned to love it in it's own way. Alberta is really a beautiful place. Lack of trees and being flatter and less water than i was used to was different for me. I have made a great living here and Calgary has treated me very well. Alot more opportunity here for me than NB had and for that I am grateful and always will be. Calgary is a very clean city, very new and very fast growing and all the benefits and hurdles associated with that. The people are very nice. Nicest people especially for a city this size. That being said, I'm pulling up stakes and moving back in the summer but Alberta will always have a special place in my heart. Jerry, making fun of people for thinking $80k a year is alot of money is very pompous and makes you look like a jerk. You living in T.O. now per chance?

uhhh.. explosions do not necessarily means 'explosives'. Just one of many many fallacies in the logic of your 'arguments'.

The UN mandated the Afghanistan mission. Harper didn't change the mission, the liberals did. Obviously you don't take the time to 'bother' very often at all.

Bush and Polar Bears
White Doors replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The "messenger" is drawing a conclusion based on the premise that global-warming is "junk-science" when he has no scientific credentials to be making such a statement. Therefore, it's a moot point whethere or not the polar bear numbers are increasing when they will be endangered if they lose their habitat due to the melting of the polar ice-caps. It's the old misleading bait-and-switch... kinda like the Clean Air Act. Looks like it's about global-warming, when in fact the increase in numbers does not address the underlying issue at all - global warming as a result of human activity. Why can't you just argue the facts? If you don't believe him, prove him wrong as opposed to dismiss him. Your actions lead to a narrow mind. BTW, global warming being caused by humans has not been proved nor has their been a 'consensus' in the scientific community about it. -

I see no link to your citation so I have no idea where it came from. This citation comes from the report late this week. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...Hk6jds&refer=us The same link you obviously didn't read that was previously posted. 9 of the 11 Polar Bear populations have incresed. Obviously this may be one of the two. -

Yes, you are truly a misunderstood martyr.. Here, from the link posted dispute these: You said you'd like to see it so there it is. If it is false then I'm sure you can find proof of this. thanks -

So you can't argue with the facts of the message so you trash the messenger? Did you read his sources? Polar Bear numbers have actually INCREASED substantially. They are not endangered. That is a fact. -
Its hard for people to ignore the obvious forever. I expect some of them are working for the secret police. The Pentagon spends 1.5 billion per year writing fake letters to the editor, etc. They also read all scripts of things even like the Simpsons before they air. Its going to take info to wake people up. Many people read these posts without commenting. I read them because they make me chuckle. You are so paranoid it is funny. Please keep posting. You remind me of the fanatics that must have cheered at the witches burning because they were herbalists. A great example of 'group think' that you are so clearly oblivious to be being a victim of. Ironic when you consider that you think that anyone who opposes you are simply mindless sheep.

Harper's foreign and social policy vs. fiscal
White Doors replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The choice is not between what we have now for health care and what the states is. There are many hybrid solutions that work very well in Europe. I think we should be looking at the best solution and not simply refuse to change because of the USA healthcare rhetoric which is all so common with the 'status quo' people. Our healthcare system is sick. -
Palestinians own 40% of West Bank Settlements
White Doors replied to Higgly's topic in The Rest of the World
Not sure if either of you realizes that this very same comment (those who suggest Palestinians should move to Jordan might well suggest that Israelis move to New York) was made by Noam Chomsky in his book "Rogue States". Chomsky is a Jew. And your point is? -
Outside of Alberta, Canada is cheap

Really? Which social club is this? I find it really sad that just because people are atheist or agnostic that they refuse to recognize the benefits that organized religion can bring to our society. -

It all comes down to what the primary purpose of the organization is. The primary purpose of a church is to be a social club for its members. The primary purpose of the muscular dystrophy association is to do charitable work. If the the muscular dystrophy association spent 90% of its money on staff parties then it would not be a charity either. Where are you gettign 90% from besides your arse? All charities have adminstrative costs. I'm willing to bet that churches by and large have a lower administrative costs than most other charities. Also, most religious folks are taught to help others as is the church. The primary purpose of a church is to get it's members into heaven. Charitable works go along way towards that goal as can be demonstrated by any number of examples that I have given here. Have you been to a church social event? All the old ladies make food and baked goodies. I don't see many of the donations given to the church going to these events. The church and manse upkeep and the pay of the minister is what they use some of the donations for, sure. Again, these upkeep costs I bet are much lower than the majority of charities out there. -

By your logic companies that run United Way campaigns should be called charities because they 'efficiently' collect money for charitable purposes. Money that goes to pay for church buildings and staff is _not_ a charitable donation because the primary purpose of these facilities it to provide a venue for a social club. What? I'm saying that most churches likely pass along more of the percentage of donations to 'good works' than alot of charities. By your logic if a local chapter of the muscular dystrophy association has a staff party they should not be a charitiable organization. -

This thread is not about whether churches do something to deserve some special treatment under the tax code. This thread is about whether they are really charities. Clubs like the Kinsmen, Lions Club or the Shriners all make similar contributions to society yet they are not called charities unless the organize a specific project with charitable objectives like building low income housing. The money that goes to pay for the upkeep of suburban club-houses and paying staff who speed 90% of their time working with club members is not a charitable donation. Citation on those numbers please? Free Masons do alot of charitable work and they are not a registered charity. They merely pass around a hat for donations. fyi - Shriners is an offshoot of the freemasons and they are a registered charity. You might have heard of Shriners hospitals? Need some mustard with that foot? -
Stockwell Day touts benefits of global warming

Higher gas prices will drive more innovation that any kyoto agreement. Billions went into venture funds for alternative fuels in 2005 when the gas prices started their upward march. The market will drive the breakthrough. -

Will you give up your car? There are alternatives to petroldriven cars. In Sweden where I live a bigger and bigger proportion of new cars are now flexifuel cars that can be driven with E85 (85% Ethanol) that is CO2 neutral. Cheers puffin Almost all new GM engines coming out over the next year or 2 will have this. -

I grew up in the United Church. Surely your typical 'sub-urban' church as some like to call it. Right on the donation form you can choose where your donation goes. There was one for International and the minister would talk about what water well they were building in Africa, One for local help and one to pay for church upkeep. There is nothing wrong with including donations to churches in tracking charitable donations. In fact, the vast majority of churches pass along more of the donations than many typical charities do, due to much lower administration costs. In the same manner of thinking if we are to get rid of churches having a charitable tax status so must we do the same with Unicef. -
