  1. If Oleg does what he/she said he/she does, then I applaud him/her. The greatest and hardest thing for anyone to do is giving up all their wealth, or wealth they could abtain and depend on the financial generosity of other people and be the hands and feet of that generosity. From helping homeless people locally to starving villages across the world. Can you imagine giving up the opportunity to own a house, and other possesions for the sake of helping other people. And on top of that if you're in other parts of the world, you might be sleeping on the grass or in the bushes, as missionaries and other aid workers might do. I mean the single greatest possesion in my life is my bed. Imagine giving that up, out of other people's interest. Let's face it, hard physical work is.....hard work, but it's not something that's hard to do. It's a blessing, and you can make lots of money doing stuff like construction here, and not to mention might be good for the body. Man, give up everything you got, and give your life up for helping other people...it's the hardest thing to do. But what is a missionary or aids worker supposed to do when they get too old to do physical labour, or travel different places, helping different people. That's what I'd like to know, there should be people helping them survive. It's unfortunate Oleg that society doesn't recognize people like you at your age who've been taking care of other people your whole life and haven't had the luxury of personal wealth and ability to accumlate and save for yourself. And possibly you've had the ability to solve many large or small social problems and other solutions for mankind to be run more effeciantly, but haven't had the opportunity or refusing to work that into a money making job or career. I know many churches from all over that support people like that. An example would be the "Alliance" Churches all over southern Ontario. Like Rexdale Alliance Church, Brampton Alliance Church, or Upper Room Community church. They are churches that extensively work at financing willing people to go on mission trips where ever they are needed all over the world to help people in poverty or other situations at weeks, months, or even years at a time. It's a situation that some people dedicate their lives too. It's one of the greatest things people can do.
  2. Everything is different where ever you go. Move 20 kilometres in any direction and you might find people bashing jews. I for example live in upper-middle class suburbs just north of Toronto. And I find a good amount of people who, to some degree, blame jews or accuse them of certain things. Many Arabic people here, or east Indian really dislike Jews for some reason or another. It all depends where you are I guess, and who's around you.
  3. haha, good point kengs. That's a funny question Posit. Are you sure your boss is not my friends dad? He moved here from Iraq, (Iraq to Syria to Jordon to here) in his 30's I think, with limited english speaking skills and eventually starting a trucking company. Now he's doing very very well for himself, he owns tons of trucks, trailers, and trasports for all sorts of companies. You know, when many other people in the industry are people like himself, it's not as hard as you might think to communicate to other people and businesses. And I don't think english speaking skills are as important as people think. I mean if you're responsible with the work you do, really know your stuff, and have the skills, doesn't matter if your english speaking is off or you have a heavy accent. Infact, I would say english speaking skills are more important at the drive thru of Tim Hortons then running a company.
  4. No thanks. And man, if you didn't quote me, I could have got away with my edit.
  5. What the heck are you guys talking about. Nouns, verbs, adjectives.....who cares! I didn't know we were taking a language class in this thread.
  6. I don't understand what you're saying. Are you replying to trex? What you said has nothing to do with that polish guy as far as I know.
  7. Yah, I don't know where I stand on this. I mean, I really hate those commercials, and I guess the whole idea of buying junk and crap really bugs me, but on the other hand, I've always really enjoyed Christmas, and I like the idea of family getting together and coming from other countries to visit. I also like the idea of parents buying presents for their young kids, as I enjoyed when I was young. I think it just might be the whole expectation of buying things for other people and stuff. Or maybe it's just the exploitation of the holiday that I see on TV and internet, it's really annoying and cheesy. One thing I know for sure is that I think it's good to buy for your children at a young age, like maybe up untill they're 11 or so, after that it seems like spoiling. I had my last family gathering birthday when I was 12, and my parents thought I was getting too old for that. Which makes sense. But the other day I was at my 17 year old cousins birthday, and it just seemed really wierd that people were buying this 17 year old girl, coats, and bags, and jewellry. The whole experience felt like she was turning 10. And on top of that, she picked out a lot of the stuff family members bought her. I guess this is the same how I feel towards christmas. Parents buying their teenagers video games, or cloths, or eletronics. I'd feel wierd, like a child, if my parents would have done that to me. Maybe that's my problem with christmas.
  8. Yah, I agree with Wilber. It doesn't make sense to have to earn respect because you're just not worth the respect from birth. Everyone should be treated with respect whether they've "earned" it or not. But of course like Wilber said, you can lose respect.
  9. I saw the video and heard about the details. Usually I agree with the amount of force police use, but this is just ridiculous. Anyone who agrees with how to cops acted, I think doesn't understand the situation. Imagine visiting a country where no one speaks your language and you just want to get out of the airport or at least meet a relative who can help you. No staff in the airport help you or seem willing and you don't see anything else you can do. You wait around for a couple hours, maybe still trying to get the message across to staff that you want to move on. You end up standing around for 10 hours and for all you know, everyone here will just let you starve and die here for all they care. At this point you're tired, hungry and extremely nervous, so you try to get attention anyway you can because obviously nobody understands you, or your gestures, so you start rattling some tables and such hoping someone will take notice. Well they take notice, and end of killing you instead of simply letting you move on through the airport system or at least letting your mother come help. I just don't think they handled it properly.
  10. It's probably just depends where you live. In the GTA here, it's pretty bad. Like 12 hour waits for scans and stuff. My grandmother who needed heart surgery was also left on a stretcher in the hallway to sleep overnight because they claimed there was no rooms available. Now, I guess if there's no room, there's no rooms (which is a huge problem), but when my uncles got there and resorted to yelling at the staff, they found an completely empty room. In fact, my uncles said almost the whole floor the room was on, was empty...weird...
  11. Hahaha, yes I've seen that one being built for a while now when I come home from work. Well actually I left that job over a year ago, so I haven't passed by there in a while and seen the finished product. But it did look very good. It supposed to be a really nice one, for that whole Indian community they just built there...in "Bramladesh". Hahaha. I bet they'll have good food. I've never had the experience of being treated in hospital, they only one I've visited was the Etobicoke General. I don't know what they serve the patients, but the cafeteria food looked decent. Why don't they just serve the patients the same cafeteria food available for the visitors?
  12. Yes, that is true. Although I don't think it will ever die, but I think it will adapt. I think it has always been adapting since it's been around, with so many changes the world has been going through. Especially the past 100 years, Christianity has been changing a lot in North America as far as I know. But not the morals and faith itself, but the religion will adapt, and the way people might practice it.
  13. Yes tax is necessary, but apparently Income Tax in the United States and Canada as far as I know doesn't pay for anything except the Countries debt. A Debt which shouldn't exist in the first place. Here's a video if you wanna watch it, not about how it works, but how it is illegal, and how they justify it. http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=752...h&plindex=0 I don't know for myself, but if that's true, then Income tax is unnecessary.
  14. No, that's a good example. I understand what you mean. But what if the persons faith is one where they believe God is in control of everything all the time? Or they could say that God planned the other persons day in such a way that their circumstances would have them drive down this road and this certain time and help the person with the broken down car. But then if that was the case, then God could have just allowed the car not to break down in the first place...unless the person believed their was a lesson to be learned. Like they were supposed to take better care of their car for a worse time...or maybe decide to get a cell phone, or learn some mechanical skills for that reason or another. I would say those are reasonable situations. Or the person can also believe that God does not have a direct hand in the outcome of the situation, and doesn't always work in every little problem, and this is something the person has to resolve and just consider an unfortunate set of circumstances. That makes sense, and you can still believe in God. I still think faith and reason can work.
  15. "The Jews are taking over man! It's a big conspiracy man!! They want to control us all, the holocaust never happened man!!!" ..................It's probably just some young girl messing around and who wants attention. I think it would be appropriate punishment if they got some skin heads to bunk with her.
  16. I believe in the Death Penalty when it's necessary, and mercy and grace when it's necessary. It all depends on the circumstances. In general people who murder, should be killed as to remove their threat, but should be shown mercy and grace if the circumstances call for it.
  17. That's just not true. It depends on what faith you're talking about, and how people might practice their faith. If you're talking about Relgions in general, then there are so many people, and opinions within so many different faiths, you couldn't generalize. It would be prejudice. I've only read the Bible and most parts of the Qur'an, and haven't come to any conclusion or read any thing that might suggest that we shouldn't use reason in our efforts in understanding, or expand our knowledge, or study certain things, like stem cell research. It's just conclusions other people or groups have come to for their own reasons.
  18. I personally don't think religion will die. It's been around for as far as we know, although organized religion as we know it might fad away. I mean over history certain religions have taken many forms and have had reforms and changes along the way. But I think it will always play a role and have influence on mankind in one way or another.
  19. I think it's time to start sending more of those ocean liners up North to collect some of that Iceberg Water. Hey, that would also be a good excuse to make more jobs, good ones too! I also think the governments of North America might start implemeting population control, just like China, but of course in a more "patriotic way". I mean most people don't even want many kids nowadays, so we're halfway to solving the problem.
  20. .....yes I know that...that was my point. That kind of stuff doesn't happen in our sheltered countries...which is a good thing. Actually I'm just assuming your from either Canada or the U.S. or Australia or the U.K. or something. Which is why World Order might be good. So it the whole world might be like the middle class in our countries.
  21. Like I said before, I believe in the NEw World Order...for the whole world, and I used to be totally against it. But in reality, it can be a good thing. I mean the authorities can abuse the system to, quote, "ENSLAVE ALL OF HUMANITY!" , which is a fear most people have. But there's also a good enough chance that it could free us all, from a lot of threats that could be controlled, resisted against or destroyed. I mean, why wouldn't they, they would definitaly have the capacity too. If people can have a socail life, food on the table, a home for themselves and access to other assets then why not. I would be for that kind of World Order. It's interesting, I was reading the book of Judges the other day in the Bible, and realized how life was not such a sure thing back then. An example is when Samson made a bet with the Philistines, and they cheated to win the bet, Samson was upset but decided to pay them anyways, so he goes down to some town, and robs and kills 30 men, so he'd have the means to pay off the bet. Completely innocent men, who were not involved in the situation. Imagine, some guy comes to a party of yours, kills you and everyone there for personal gain. It seemed to happen often in those days. Another story is when a group of 600 men had their city destroyed and everyone in it (wives and children), So the Isrealites felt bad for them, and went out and destroyed another town, killed everyone and took all the virgins and gave them to the 600 men, but they were 200 women short. Then that group of men went out to yet ANOTHER town and while they were having some sort of celebration, the men went out and stole 200 of that towns women dancing outside. I guess my point is, how insecure humans can be without a governing body. Of course we are much more secure now, an army just cant walk down the street and destroy your town, and no one can just kidnap 200 people and get away with it in our country. But think of how much more secure it can be without gangs, rapers, thieves...etc, if they were to control those things...
  22. Good Stuff Amazing Atheist. Someone has to put those issues you raised into action. I think those are easy to comply with, it's just a matter of someone having the responsility to do it. You know, some schools have taken some of that stuff into action, but it all depends of the school. You know what would be great, is if the government could take it upon themselves to enforce these issues. I think it's an important issue, and the corporations and school boards and such, just couldn't care less I think. This is a political issue that should be handled as such, to do what's best for the people.
