What is your take on Sarah Palin?
jefferiah replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No she says "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right; also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God." When she says "also for this country" what do you think she means? Also what? Also (pray) for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. I didn't say she was asking them to pray for a "Sign", but simply praying that they were doing the right thing. It could not be clearer. I can't believe you actually believe yourself. -

Don't tell me what it says at the end of that clip, halfway through her sentence. Tell me what the entire clip says. Here I'll transcribe it word for word for you. "Pray for our military. He's gonna be deployed in September to Iraq. Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure we are praying for...." I just transcribed that word for word from the video. And as it turns out, it is exactly as Glenn Beck quoted it. So it seems he had a real life source. It means she is asking them to pray that this mission is mandated by God, to pray that they are doing the right thing. The last part of your post, you will note, says "War is divinely mandated by God." So I guess we can all start posting this as a WIP-ism. -

"I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gasline built. So pray for that." That doesn't sound so bad either. -

OK, is this real enough for ya. You'll note that this is posted by someone who is obviously anti-Sarah, so there is no conservative bias here. Also note how the person who made this video highlights the exact same part of the post people are selectively quoting, but the entire quote still stands. I think this actually proves that the Glenn Beck quote I gave is not exact as well. Nonetheless, the meaning is closer to Beck's than to the one you found at Yahoo. Well, the meaning is the same as Beck's. Your quote changes the entire meaning of what she actually said. -

You gotta give credit to the selective quoters of the world. I don't mean you WIP, by the way. I know you pulled that from somewhere. What Sarah Palin said was: "Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them[u.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God..." http://www.glennbeck.com/content/blog/inde...&post_id=93 She was asking people to pray that they were doing the right thing. That's not the same as saying it's a task from God. -
Is it just me........ or does Jack Layton eerily resemble Vladimir Lenin?

Sarah Palin has specifically said she has nothing against talking about and explaining the use of condoms in schools, but she doesn't believe in the school handing them out. That actually sounds pretty sane to me. Why should a school hand them out? "We think it's best not to smoke marijuana children, but in case you do we are handing out these pot pipes because they are the safest variety." Maybe you don't agree, but its certainly not such a radical thing. It's not like condoms are not accessible a million other places. So it seems that the "Sarah Palin is against sex ed" thing has been greatly exaggerated. However, didn't Barack specifically say he supports teaching sex ed to kindergartners? -

Ah, on this point I must say to you American Woman, that I was not attempting to lie about you. I may have been mistaken about your intentions. I actually thought you were trying to go somewhere with that article about Palin's little gaffe rather than simply be informative. Maybe I was a bit too presumptious in assuming that you were posting this article as an attack on Palin. After all, what evidence do I even have that you dislike Palin? Re-reading your posts of late it seems you are quite a full-blown fan. -

Well, duh. The point I am trying to make is its such a minor issue. Who cares? You don't. Neither does American Woman. The only reason this is so scandalous to her is that Palin said it. The more one points that out, the more we see American Woman shrieking things like "grow a brain, ignoramus, etc". Am I wrong? Maybe. Do you suppose we'll see American Woman chewing out Obama over statements like: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.” or “There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.” (Note: Obama was born in 1961, Selma Alabama March 1965) -

So the Church told her this about the Pledge? I figured it was just a mistake. Yes Yes, a mistake caused by ignorance. Actually, as far as the founding fathers go, I think it probably would have been fine by them, seeing as they themselves didn't see fit to censor every administrative mention of the supremacy of God on the grounds that it could create a State religion. So it seems to be a modern revisionist interpretation of the 1st Amendment which is used in the argument against the word "God" being present. Speaking of the First Amendment, where do the Democrats stand on the idea of the (Orwellian) "Fairness Doctrine"? -

What a scandal! Pledgegate! So basically you are unpatriotic enough to endorse the idea of changing the pledge but so patriotic you get offended over the idea of someone making a technical mistake on who wrote it. What a horrid example she is setting for children!! What matters more, the pledge or who wrote it? -

My own play. "Democrats Don't Nuke Gay Baby Whales" Q: Do you support the nuking of gay baby whales. Obama: Um, er, well I think no one in America, um er, could answer that question, um er, without asking themselves first--Are the people who, um, support the nuking of gay baby whales, are they the real agents of change we need in this country? And, um er, are gay baby whales the agents of change we need in this country? I think in the end thats a decision that would have to be made by the, um, UN Security Council, complete with France's approval. -

You are right. I just turned on the tv and lo and behold, there was an actual interview with a republican on tv, the same as American Woman's screenplay ("Republicans Nuke Gay Baby Whales"), word for word. -

Well, I don't see any conflict of interest here. Kimmy is allowed to like people. By the way she isn't voting in your election anyway. Did she say she would vote for Palin if she were American? Leftwingers hate those who don't agree with them. And they even hate those who say they have admiration for those who don't agree with them. Such is the compassion of the left. -

It's pretty easy to make this argument, when you are writing the script. This is how American Woman views Republicans in her little play. This is actually her fantasy because if this is how they really think then it makes the Democrats right. The problem is no one actually responds to those questions the way she has them written in her script. -

Well, Rue. People who belong to the NRA don't go around shooting people. They come in handy though when people who break gun control laws (which don't work) start shooting you. Since Alaska has sex education it is kind of stupid to argue that no sex ed did not work for Palin's daughter. In order for that claim to have any kind of substance, she would have had to have had "NO SEX ED". Using her baby as a prop? I don't think she has used her children any more than other candidates. They all bring their children on stage and have nice group hugs. Carrying a rifle and believing in the sanctity of life are not mutually exclusive, unless you start using that rifle to end the sanctity of life (we do mean humans here right?). Do you have the same attitude about people carrying axes, and chainsaws? Intellectual city folk?? I don't think Palin insulted City Folk. But Giuliani made a reference to the fact that Obama thinks country folk are not cosmopolitan enough. He did not say city people are not smart enough. He simply point out the fact that Obama might feel that way about rural folk. So here we have a prime example of how left-leaning folks will fling a tirade of insults, and then when someone defends themselves, they are all of a sudden victims of genocide. But all in all, I think it's quite safe to say by the way people like American Woman and you, Rue, are foaming at the mouths and gnashing your teeth over the GOP's (a party you dont even support) choice for VP candidate, that they made the right choice. -

I do oppose Obama! I do not trust his government redistribution schemes. I think the Democrats have moved further to the left. I favor tax cuts to the wealthy since the wealthy pay higher taxes in the first place. Punishing economic success is not a good way to encourage your economy to grow. I do not trust that he spent 20 years in Wrights church without knowing what he was about. Apparently Wright all of a sudden became radical just last week. And despite the women who have been cued to faint over him and the great charisma the media keeps telling me he possesses, I don't find him all that personable either. But none of this was the point. We were talking about Palin. Some people dismissed her as being inexperienced. And when we point out this vice presidential candidate is probably just as experienced as the top of the democratic ticket, you folks get mighty offended. We were not discussing policy but experience. You are the ones who said she didnt have it. We are the ones pointing out she's got just as much as Barack. And now you've taken to crying about it. It's ok to poke fun at small town mayors and Alaskans, and people who cling to guns and religion, but make people chuckle at Barack and all of a sudden you've all become spokespeople for the Community Organizers Anti-Defamation League. -

Am I saying that Obama did absolutely nothing other than make several trips to the washroom? Of course not, Stephen, he also wrote two autobiographies. -

Ok. Look, I'll explain it to you Stephen. I am pointing out that the fact that I said Obama did not do anything, is not to be taken so literally as you mean it, when you declare it such a horrid lie. If I meant it so literally as you suggest, then one could not use the "didnt do anything" about anybody, since one could always say one has gone to the bathroom. I am making fun of your over analysis of my comment. -

I think I pointed out that I didnt mean that literally as you are taking it, about 17 times already. I am aware that in spite of the fact I said Obama did not do anything, that he has gone to the bathroom several times in his life. (note: now Stephen Best will count how many times I actually pointed this out, and if it's been less or more than 17, we'll be hearing indignant outrage at another one of my horrid falsehoods.) Oh where oh where do I come up with them? -
