  1. I like baseball, but auto racing is just a bunch of vuvuzelas.
  2. Who are you rooting for, Wyly?
  3. That is probably true. But I get 82 games a year of my own NHL team. I don't miss many of them. There is only so much one can watch. Aside from the Habs, I also like to watch the Flames, Sens, Canucks, and Wings whenever I can. I don't even care to watch Team Canada in the IIHF tournies. World Cup is only every four years. It's not much of a sacrifice to watch a few games here and there.
  4. Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects
  5. No, but I think we both know which sport is more popular to Canadians. Not that popularity matters, Canadian or worldwide. August and I are simply smarter and better looking than everyone else and have much better tastes as well.
  6. No vuvuzela's though. Nah I watch the world cup a bit. I really don't think it's that boring, I just enjoy hockey more.
  7. I was a soccer player. Does not mean the sport was more popular with me. It's cheap. 50 percent of Canadians identify themselves as hockey fans.
  8. This topic is in the more chit-chatty section of the board so I think you are all taking August too seriously. He does not seem to be pissed off, he is just making comments about the World Cup which is the topic here. It's hard to find a thread on this board where everyone agrees on everything. What do you expect? This is what forums are for, sharing your opinions on topics. If you don't like it......
  9. I don't think the popularity of something says anything about the sophistication required to enjoy it. I used to play soccer, so I understand it. I played soccer better than I ever did hockey. Nonetheless, I still prefer hockey as a sport.
  10. Bahhhh Humbug
  11. Are you really that upset over his opinion of football? I don't know how many football fans go into hockey threads on the internet, but I do notice that every four years come World Cup time I read articles about how we North Americans lack the sophistication to appreciate the world's game. We don't like watching paint dry either, go figure.
  12. I think he is making a point. You really have to question the credibility of the criticism coming from those who make it their life's goal to criticize Israel when horrible things are happening elsewhere.
  13. Israel inspects those ships because, despite your naivete, it is crucial to Israel's survival to check and double-check. That is what survival entails for them. Their survival is a human right too. We here in the west have the convenience of being sideline critics, but believe it or not, for them, survival transcends Naomi Glover's concerns about how they do things.
  14. Is he shedding crocodile tears? I don't see anything in his original post showing his emotion one way or another. He seems to be referring to the hypocrisy of those who shed their crocodile tears selectively. Furthermore, I find it hard to believe you were genuinely "disturbed" by JBG at all.
  15. John Cleese taught us all how to defend ourselves against assailants weilding a piece of fruit, but he never covered what to do about someone weilding a puppy.
  16. Yes they are! I know this is a matter of opinion, but it's hard to imagine that a loud constant droning which sounds like an angry swarm of hornets the size of Jupiter would not be universally annoying to most people. It's almost like the unsettling cacophonous cello noises you would hear in a horror movie, only the haunting music never ends. Fans scraping their fingernails across chalkboards would be a step up.
  17. Please bring hockey back!!! Why does it have to end?
  18. Beamsville eh? Neil Peart's home town.

  19. I've noticed Pronger getting away with stuff for years now. That's certainly part of what makes him such a "great player". Not to take anything away from his defensive abilities. He is a good d-man with a long reach. But being able to put opposing players in a headlock and give them noogies can be very effective.
  20. I know he did not show up on the scoresheet, and I know that's pretty much what he is paid to do, but if I am not mistaken he was suffering from an injury that compromised his shooting. I thought the guy played pretty well every night. He had one more goal than Toews did all series. Toews was great too though. When scorers are not scoring there are other things they can do to make their ice time count. And Hossa was on fire every night. He is pretty loyal to Chicago....I think he is signed there for several years....maybe 12.
  21. I have heard people make this complaint about him before but I think it's not a fair one. He didn't go to Pittsburgh for a shot at the cup or anything. He was "traded" there are the deadline. Not his choice. He was an upcoming UFA and Atlanta was a seller that year. I remember it well because all us Hab fans were expecting him in a red, white, and blue jersey as Gainey made the only offer to Atlanta, until like a few minutes before the deadline, the Pens offered Armstrong and some promising prospects (Angelo Esposito for one) just to get the guy. Gainey did not compete with that overpayment. Pittsburgh went for a playoff rental and they got burned. After playing only a couple months with Pittsburgh I don't think he had any special moral obligation to re-sign with them. He did sign a one year deal with Detroit, that is true. The flipside of that is that Detroit signed him to a one year deal. And that's nothing out of the ordinary. Players sign where they want when they are UFA and teams that have a shot are always more attractive to many free agents. Unless they don't care about the cup and just want a bigger salary. Or if they arent that coveted and cannot be choosers. Hossa did what every player does, and for two years in a row (I am not counting Pittsburgh since he was traded) he did a pretty good job picking. The deal he signed with Chicago last year was pretty long term.
  22. Really? Well it's over now anyways, but I don't see Hossa is a player who is hate-able. I'd take him on my team anyday.
  23. Not to take anything away from Byfuglien, but I think he is getting too much credit. The guy is very useful in front of the net, but he is not a legitimate top liner skill wise and I don't think he is the difference maker. Chicago is simply a really good team. Philly is looking pretty good in this series, and even in their game two loss it seemed as if they dominated Chicago. Nonetheless, I am rooting for Chicago now. I cannot stand Pronger. He is a bufoon.
  24. The Caps are a good team but have some holes. The offense was good. Ovechkin was not shut down either. He got like 4 goals and 10 points in total. He was partially shut down lets say. They don't play any system other than run and gun. Better coaching might have led to a much different result. Combine the fact that Halak pulled off a miracle in the last three games with the Ovechkin goal being called back (which could have easily been let go) Habs were pretty lucky. Pens might be tougher for the Habs, but sometimes certain teams match better as well. I don't think the Pens are as good as last year. I think Ottawa exposed some weaknesses, and their goaltending did not look so strong. Ottawa also suffered from some key injuries. But really I dont know what will happen. Playoff hockey is bizarre. Hope the habs can win this series though!
  25. You were calling for a Montreal Detroit final last year. Habs got swept in the first round. I am a Habs fan by the way. Didn't anyone ever teach you about jinxing? Habs chances are pretty slim. I still hope of course. Do not jinx us!!
