Michael Moore Owns Haliburton!
theloniusfleabag replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Dear Shady, No, he is not. Be careful with that incredibly broad brush, you might find you have painted yourself the colour of 'nincompoop'.Personally, I find Moore to be way over-dramatic, to the point of ruining the message (and facts) he tries to convey. I found 'Bowling for Columbine' to be very interesting, and apart from a few sappy moments, a genuine critical self-examination of the American gun culture. F-911, though it presented some few interesting revelations, (most I already knew about) was a self-serving jack-off of triteness and saccharin-laced pap. Don't let his big box-office numbers fool you, most people (including my wife and myself) went in expecting far more than this crap. Slander and libel are indictable and punishable offenses. The 'right' would like nothing better than to see him charged for 'his lies', yet that has not happened yet. Why do you suppose that is? Feel free to provide proof that he lied. -
Dear RB, I expect Argus' and Renegade's replies to be mostly true. However, I would also expect that the 'applicants', from both sides, will run the gamut from 'control freak' (and possibly closet rapist) to 'gold-digger' and 'citizen wannabe'. Then again, there might be some really nice people, who actually do find happiness. Probably more than your previous post about Tom Cruise and 'Penelope Pre-Nup'.

Dear Shady, Not egg, really, just 'imperialist yoke'. Yes, it is good that someone does. It just isn't you. It is not a question of 'missing the real story'. There are two different takes on the matter. You seem to think that torture, secret prison camps, etc. are ok and that the real story is the fact that someone leaked the secret. (This is the 'right-wing' moral dilemma', if I may use so simple a term.) The 'left' seems to think that the real story is that the side that is fighting to 'defend freedom' is doing exactly the opposite of what they claim to be defending against. So, there isn't much water to be held with 'I told you so', it is merely a side issue of 'how the information came to light'.

Dear Sparhawk, I concur. I would rather see the GST go to 10% coupled with the elimination of income tax.

This link is typical of why I have nothing but disdain for the credibility of 'blogs'. 'Blogging' is the blackest eye true journalism has suffered since the advent of Josef Goebbels.

Dear Shakeyhands, Hopefully soon this poster and his disingenuous posts will be gone. Then he can infest some other site, claiming to be punted from MLW for using the word..."the". -
Incredible! A MUST READ!
theloniusfleabag replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Montgomery Burns, As far as we know, you are the only 'DU reject' here (self-admittedly, no less). Small wonder. You are long overdue to be a MLW reject. Feel free to post any credible proof of the interview, or barring that, feel free to leave. -
Dear tml12, As Black Dog has previously pointed out to everyone, torture is a very unreliable method for gathering information. Those that crack would claim that their own mother shot JFK to escape more torture, and those that are devout think that it is more honourable to die. Good point, but torture is outlawed in even more places and by more organizations than the death penalty.

The liberal media's blackout
theloniusfleabag replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Dear Argus, Very magnanimous, I salute you. They are the fuel and fodder of any and every 'movement'. Of every race and religion, they are the ones who will most gladly kill and die, the most fervent and iron-willed, yet also the most malleable. I don't believe this to be absolutely true. Even the Taliban was unpopular in Afghanistan for their hardline interpretations. Not that I am hoping to live in a system mildly more tolerant than the Taliban, mind you, but I don't buy the rhetoric pushed by the US gov't that 'they hate freedom'. This, however, is a more sobering thought. Just the way I like it, stark pragmatic analysis. -
Southern Californian in EDMONTON.
theloniusfleabag replied to Freedom's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Dear kimmy, Funny...that is just how I like my women....(j/k)Even though I live in Calgary, I abhor the Stampede. Good for business, but lousy for your liver (and your sanity). About the only thing that changes from one year to the next at the Stampede is the price. -
Dear tml12, Pretty much a given that it is true. http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/libra...109-rferl01.htm It looks as though the US intel is going to investigate the story as a 'leak' and not a falsehood. Further, if there was any hope of keeping it secret, there would be denials such as 'baseless accusations' and 'entirely without proof', etc. Another bit of the story... http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/world...tan/saltpit.htm Now, if the chimneys of Auschwitz or Bergen-Belsen once again begin to smoke, and the US says "We need to dispose of the bodies of the enemy", will you still say "So what? I wasn't meant to know."?? Ends do not justify means, unless it is the most dire of circumstances, and even then some form of judgement will be passed.
-
Dear kimmy, Discombobulation is indeed a terrible thing. I believe you have said you are from Edmonchuck, and are saying you are one hour different in the time on the forum. I live in Calgary, and I am 2 hrs behind the time posted on MLW. I don't think you shouldn't worry too much about it. I believe Greg did say something about it a long time ago, something about the 'server location', but I could be wrong. it didn't jive then either. Just so long as you don't set all your clocks to MLW time, you should be ok.

Dear August1991, Two people helping each other is 'communism' (anathema to 'free enterprise'), two people competing against each other for all each other has is 'free enterprise'. I realize that this is taking things to extremes, but I am not sure where you get your notions from.

Potential Election Dates
theloniusfleabag replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear August1991, I don't believe it. Not with Layton's wording of 'we don't trust the gov't'. IMV, Layton just burned the bridge. I wonder if they think that they have a shot at the title. I seriously doubt he wants to ever see another one. Were the PCs to have a better leader, the Liberals would be looking to take a tumble ala Mulroney/Campbell. As shoop points out, it is almost like a velodrome race, each contestant waiting for someone else to move first, and use the 'come from behind' strategy. However, shoop, I think it is too late for that. Layton basically said that the NDP doesn't want to share the bed with crooks. If he tries to make a deal and then jumps back in bed with the crooks, he will have tainted himself (and the party) as a harlot. -
Looks like we're going to the polls.
theloniusfleabag replied to ScottBrison's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Leader Circle, Hardly. Harper has blown it by saying he would have sent our troops to Iraq, something which would have deeply divided the country. He blew it by not going for the throat when the Liberals were sliding. It's not as though he hasn't got the ammunition. Not sure which 'leftist media' you refer to, but in Calgary it could hardly be more to the right. -

Dear August1991, The Left may have cried 'wolf', but the wolf is still there (actually... not a wolf, more like a....jackass) If the 'right wing' had anybody more than halfway acceptable please put them forward! If the PC's had someone with a little more charisma than a dead fish, the Liberals would be at about 2% in the polls right now. It does no good complaining that Harper is 'mis-represented in the press', or "He isn't such a bad guy". If MacKay were to take over the PC's tomorrow, there would probably be a 5-30% rise in their standings. Quebec excepted, of course, however there may be extenuating circumstances. MacKay was 'dumped' (or betrayed) by Stronach. He has avoided the 'cuckolded statesman stigma' because it was seen as a purely political move. The 'Quebecois' may become interested in him, and he is one of the best looking guys that the PC's have. (you know how mushy the French can get) -
"pervert" alert - face to face danger
theloniusfleabag replied to RB's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear RB, Excellent job, well done, even though that is just my opinion. Sadly, too many parents use (or let) the television or computer to 'babysit' (and also basically raise, instill a sense of morals and justice, and program information to be regarded as 'gospel truth'). -

Dear August1991, Actually you can thank Stephen Sondheim for writing it. However, it burns my ass how well criminals are treated, including those in France. -
The liberal media's blackout
theloniusfleabag replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Dear August1991, No, actually, this thread was started under the false pretences (by a fanatic-cum-troll) that the media is 'liberal biased' (which is farcical) and that therefore the riots were not reported. There seems to be a common thread through much of the 'right wing', and yet they seem too scared to come out and say it. War with Islam. I hope you are aware of what it will require to kill all 1 billion+ Muslims. -

Dear lovecanada, No, they only have the law. Then I suggest the parents have done a poor, or excellent job, raising their children, depending on what they believe to be acceptable. -

Dear newbie, He is on trial for his crimes, (and a plea has been made for him to be released to seek cancer treatment) which would make it very difficult for him to show up for some right-wing nut's interview). So I would suggest that no, there isn't a hint of truth to the interview ever taking place. http://www.trial-ch.org/trialwatch/profile...facts/p147.html http://www.trial-ch.org/trialwatch/profile.../facts/p63.html -
"pervert" alert - face to face danger
theloniusfleabag replied to RB's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear lovecanada, The laws don't need to be changed, the parents of the children do. Why should the gov't (or laws) be expected to show the difference to children between right and wrong? Shouldn't that be the job of the parents? Sadly, the parents of today have taken for a job 'lining up to suckle at the teat of the golden calf' rather than take any hand in the 'moral rearing' of their children. Why should the law protect teens from 'sexploitation' when their own parents don't care enough to? Sexual predation is not new, only easier. Easier for many reasons, not just 'internettal anonymity'. -

Dear August1991, from CNN today, http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/1...s.ap/index.html and also Seems that they are blaming 'the degredation of society' for the degredation of society. There is also a link to what the 'angry youths' are claiming to be their reasons, but don't take their word for it. Feel free to make up your own.
