QUESTION FOR BUSH SUPPORTERS
theloniusfleabag replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Dear Leafless, There is very little evidence that Iraq was involved in any sort of terrorism. Some ties to the PLO and Arafat, (reputedly Iraq paid money to the families of suicide bombers after the fact) that's about it. (Although, admittedly, that is a bad thing).WMDs possibly being supplied to terrorists? Nope, Iraq didn't have any. There was much more evidence that certain other countries were aiding and abetting terrorists, including those from 9/11. Iraq was not on, or even near, the top of the list for centres of terrorism. Perhaps you misspelled a word in your post. 'Distinct possibility' should have read 'distant' possibility. (very distant). -
Incredible! A MUST READ!
theloniusfleabag replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Montgomery Burns, No search engine of the ones I tried (google, altavista, Yahoo, and the site globalsecurity.org) has a reference to any such person. The only references to 'defectors' from Iraq even close to your story are below... from..http://middleeastreference.org.uk/kamel.html and, from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1422340.stm In short, I have openly claimed you are full of shit, and have spent considerable time and effort on your behalf in the rare case that I might be wrong. So far, no evidence can be found of your (and FPM's) claim. Which only lends proof to my claim that you are full of shit. I have no problem debating with people of any political bent so long as they are genuine. There are several 'right wingers' on this forum, such as BHS, August1991, crazymf, I miss Reagan, Argus, and Hugo for whom I have tremendous respect. Partisanship my ass. I seek no end to any 'opposing viewpoint', just an end to bullshit posts, and disingenuous, flaming rhetoric such as yours. -
from...http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=92906 Not that I believe the Israelis to be impartial, but, it raises a few interesting questions. Does the rhetoric of a small faction warrant global condemnation and 'eradication'? Would snuffing out this entire group of radicals foment a war against Islam? Is this seen as something coming near the end or at the beginning? How different is this than the US advocating the use of military might to change the world to 'it's way'?(apart from the obvious differences of theology. I mean to question the methods, not motives)

Opposition Agrrement on Election
theloniusfleabag replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear August1991, I am not worried about a holiday time election. In fact, getting rid of Martin Hood and his Merry Men (who rob from everyone and give to themselves) might be a dandy Christmas gift to all Canadians. -
QUESTION FOR BUSH SUPPORTERS
theloniusfleabag replied to tml12's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Dear tml12, There is extensive debate on this matter under the thread "Greenspan Worried" http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3992 There are those (including Bush and Cheney) that believe deficit spending doesn't matter. -
Dear BHS, Since there was no 'declaration of war' for Iraq, (one of the main reasons the invasion was 'illegal') the issue of adhering to the Geneva Convention is a bit muddy. After all, did the US accept or refuse capitulation? After a country capitulates, the occupying force makes the rules, if they were smart enough to say so in the surrender documents. With no documents of capitulation, technically, the 'war' (if anyone argues that it is one) is not over, so the combatants would still be 'legal'. Just as the invasion of Panama was condemned as a 'flagrant violation of international law', so too are the actions of the US today, on many levels. The biggest problem is that 'the good guys' have chosen to ignore or throw away the rules as it suits them. Then if no one at all sticks to the rules, what is the point of having any?

theloniusfleabag replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Montgomery Burns, That is not the issue, nor is this statement a qualification of proof. I want peace on earth, a pony, and you, your bullshit, and your disingenuous posts off of this forum. -

Montgomery Burns, That is irrelevant, as there is no proof of the person is legitimate. -
Election first week of February?
theloniusfleabag replied to shoop's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear BHS, Aye, they say 'familiarity breeds contempt', but with gov't, it usually breeds complacency. It's probably like getting buggered in prison. The first time you are shocked and horrified, and think it's unfair. But after 50 or a 100 times you just start looking at your watch. -
Dear BHS, Thank you. I had only heard of Steyn on this forum. I guess I am not surprised to hear he is making such a blatant call for open war against Islam.

Dear August1991, from Michael Coren today... http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/...12/1303393.html Coren is reputed to be deeply religious and a shade to the 'right'. However, he is willing to 'call a spade a spade', (just not to his face, lol). More stuff... I don't think that this was meant to 'point fingers', but rather, put into perspective. Well said, and too true, everywhere.
-
Dear Argus, Lol. I was going to post something similar, pehaps there was a shortage of white flags in the army's weekly rations, but you beat me to it. Mind you, the last time the Germans came to visit, they were indeed formidable. And the some of French still had blue frickin' uniforms.
-
Dear PocketRocket, The whole thing is a mess. There really wasn't a 'war' declared, so some of the applications of the rules are sketchy. A 'false flag surrender' is punishable by death. Legally. The point is that if someone does it, they jeopardize both the 'goodwill' of the captors and the combatants that still fight, and also open the door to 'reprisals', which are also outlawed.
-
Dear kimmy, Well, lets say that the Taliban abuses human rights 80% of the time, and the US 5% of the time. (The abuses, such as torture, murder etc. are virtually equal, just the reason for application is different). What in your mind is the balance we should aim for? 50-50? (I would prefer 0-0)

I say make all prisons 'boot camps'. Run by the military (god knows they could use an excuse for a budget increase), they would be a boon to both society and the criminals themselves...no drugs allowed (that is, brought in by the guards) and only those that 'qualify' could be released early. Make it so that none of them want to go back...

Martin says "NO" To Jocko's request
theloniusfleabag replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear August1991, I took a quiz about 'which party leader I naturally support', and, being 'liberal minded', it came up #1 as Martin. (Ha!) A close #2 was Duceppe, and Harper was last. Why doesn't the BQ run in a few other provinces and go for the majority? -

theloniusfleabag replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear tml12, Any vote tabled, but not passed, is seen as a 'non-confidence vote'. -
Dear Argus, Didn't Julie Andrews sing about this in Mary Poppins? "Just a spoon full of cocaine helps the supermodel go down, supermodel go down,.....in a most delightful way...."

Martin says "NO" To Jocko's request
theloniusfleabag replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Leafless, No 'hot air' about it. As I understand it, if a vote of 'non-confidence' is taken, there are only two courses of action that Martin can take. from... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vote_of_no_confidenceSo, Martin's time is limited. Unless, of course, Layton reneges, which would be shooting himself and his party in the foot in the worst way. -
God's 'Intelligent Design' in Classroom? Why Not?
theloniusfleabag replied to mirror's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Dear sharkman, Well said. Nietzsche said 'God is dead, and we killed him. ( I believe that was from "Thus Spake Zarathustra") I don't think Nietzsche was too far off. Nor do I think a 'supreme entity' would be prone to forgetfulness. However, God would be quite old by now, perhaps he has Alzheimer's. A great line from a song by Tom Waits, (Heartattack and Vine) "Don't you know there ain't no Devil, there's just God when He's drunk". -

theloniusfleabag replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Canuck E Stan, ??? (sp)I am in agreement, and I think we should let the unions bankrupt the companies. Then, abolish unions. After that, perhaps someone will start making competitive products. -

Dear kimmy, An excellent post indeed. Perhaps Yodeler is saying that Vancouver has a higher quality pot smoke in the air??? -
Dear RB, Ugh. Women like that have plastic souls and plastic tits. Don't want this to sound like 'sour grapes', but usually women that are treated (and treat themselves) as 'objets du art' are elitist, meaning you probably have to have an 8 figure income and a foot long wang to even be considered as a 'possible dinner date' to them. Not all, to be sure, but industries like that aren't likely to reinforce humility.
