Immigration Law Must Change
theloniusfleabag replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Charles Anthony, Yes, this would require the abject 'de-humanizing' of not just potential 'labour imports', but to a degree, all of civilization. -
Dear BHS, Oh yeah...Rove. Nothing is beneath him. It seems he will walk away from this with Scooter taking the fall. The only thing we know for sure is that Rove declared "Wilson's wife is fair game". Tantamount to 'giving the green light' to expose a CIA operative, an illegal act. It must be nice to have friends in high places, that have the power to say "We decided not to charge him".

Dear BHS and sharkman, It is the quality, not the quantity, that matters (the motto of my wiener, Mr. Wiggleby).

Dear August1991, Seems we might have a three way tie for the cause of Edmonton's win...from... http://start.shaw.ca/start/enCA/News/Natio...rc=n061802A.xml It could be because Harper told them what to do, it could be because I beat up that little fat kid in Grade 3, or some girl's lucky socks. One of them has to be right.
-
Dear August1991, No, I am firmly convinced that they won tonight because I beat up that little fat kid in Grade 3. Either that, or they are demonstrating what it means to be Canadian. You can defeat any obstacle, be it size, fatigue, injury or any kind of odds, as long as you are fuelled by grit and determination.

Immigration Law Must Change
theloniusfleabag replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Charles Anthony, As long as 'the fulfillment of quotas' doesn't involve Immigration Canada setting sail for Africa with a boatload of barracoons and shackles, I suppose. I think that you, and the points above, are not too far off the mark. However, the reason I used 'wacky' (or actually, any sort of 'qualifier') was because such a move could only be pondered by the morally bankrupt. Further, with no 'borders', one could not call it 'immigration'. It might be called 'resettlement', or even 'relocation of our assets', but they would create 'reserves' or 'refugee camps' in all but name in a Libertarian system. Worse, some poor Libertarian would have to give up his land to house influxes of 'only the finest, hand picked foreign labourers' untill such time as they could somehow find their own 'property'. The only way for the landowner could make sure money from it would either be from the philanthropic benevolence of big businesses who aren't concerned with profits, or from collecting tribute from the imported workers themselves. Here is where I think you misinterpret my meaning. I may give the appearance that I am on the other side of the coin as you, but I believe I am in a place where I can see both sides of the coin. -
Dear BHS, Well done. Welcome to the exclusive club of "People Who Won't Shut Up". (just kidding, as I'm higher than you in that club!)

Dear Charles Anthony, This is an inherent learning, from the first time a kid squashes a bug. It is also the basis of 'rights theory'. It is up to the parents to teach the child where and when to use that power, and when not to. I agree, and am a believer in the theory of 'tabula rasa', with some exceptions. Kids also grow up with the notion of 'Gimme! Now!' and in the absence of discipline, they will couple what they learned (like the band named "Me First and the Gimme Gimmes") of immediate gratification and the power over life and death (like the bug) to find that it is in their hands. I totally agree.

Dear RB, You seem to indicate that mothers are appreciated more, yet...Sons have been traditionally seen as more desirable for several reasons. I haven't read August's link but.. (keep in mind this is 'old school' thinking) -Sons carry on the family name when they get married and have kids -sons can 'work the farm' doing the grunt labour -sons can go go to war for king and country Not sure where the tatto bit comes in, but 95% of them don't deal with mom or dad, but rather dramatic life events of the individual.

This is an encouraging bit of news. However, bear in mind he also says this... from...http://start.shaw.ca/start/enCA/News/World...rc=w061633A.xml It seems he is willing to renounce violence as a method in trying to make Afghanistan an Islamic state. Does he think this will help, or hinder his chances? I asked this question a while ago, perhaps it could be examined again... http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index....+need+a+country

Dear BHS, This isn't 'lefty stuff' (except when used disparagingly, I guess), it is Bush Jr.'s nickname for Rove. Evidently there is a flower that thrives in cattle excrement in Texas, and Bush himself thought that this vernacular term was a fitting comparison to Rove. I agree, and this is much better wording. Feel free to suggest away. Both are equally possible.

Immigration Law Must Change
theloniusfleabag replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Argus, I somewhat agree, and earlier I said something similar, but I'll rephrase it here.If we helped the 'oppressed' with their 'wherewithal', then they wouldn't need to leave where they were. -
Dear Shady, LOL. You are mincing words in your favour. By that logic, no one who does anything is 'guilty' before they get caught, so why would they ever be arrested? You are trying to substitute legal declarations for fact by implication . 'Not being found guilty' doesn't mean you didn't do it. Just ask Orenthal.

Tea Party or Global Conspiracy?
theloniusfleabag replied to BubberMiley's topic in The Rest of the World
This bit from the link is absolute rubbish. What a puny proposed punishment for writing what would be the world's biggest expose. -
Dear BHS, The same paragraph caught my eye too... I don't recall reading those words in the article. More like 'Home schooling is illegal'. Quite the interpretation, there, BHS. Not entirely wrong, but your 'political indoctrination' twist makes it seem like Belgium could be compared to Cambodia under Pol Pot, or Russia under Stalin at the height of 'The Terror'. I take it you don't think education should be mandatory?

Dear Black Dog, A fantastic game, and a very entertaining series. Speaking of bullshit,...from the 2001 series... and from the '2006' series... I realize you aren't 'feeding the troll' on purpose, but he seems to be eating the peanuts out of your turds and calling it food!

Immigration Law Must Change
theloniusfleabag replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear August1991, One wacky solution (which might find favour from 'conservatives') would be to let business decide immigration numbers. They could apply for workers of whatever types they needed, and Immigration Canada would simply fill the quotas. Mind you, their families would likely have to come along. However, I sense that this would not cover some issues that seem (or are made to seem) pertinent at this time. Would the 'religious/ideological' orientation of said workers make a difference? Where would that leave 'refugees'? Would 'Canadian foreign policy' be expected to improve their lot where they lie so they didn't feel the need to emigrate? -
Feds to redefine 'terrorism'
theloniusfleabag replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear Leafless, I admit that the Wikipedia definition is fairly comprehensive, but previous to the internet, the definition was roughly : "for one group to attack a second group (generally civilians of a state), with the aim that the second group would coerce a third group (the state to which they belong) into concessions or aquiesence to the first group's demands". The 'terror bombing' of German civilians by the British in WWII (and by the Germans of English cities) was an example. If they are going to re-define or broaden the term 'terrorism', then they might have to come up with a new name for the old 'terrorism'. -
I have no link yet, but I heard on the news this am that the gov't wishes to re-define terrorism as 'any act of violence driven by political, religious, or ideological grounds'. Phooey, I say, there already is a definition of terrorism, and this isn't it.

Dear Charles Anthony, It is also 'only recently' that people are able to argue that they should be able to do what they want and have a good chance of suffering no consequences for their actions. I recently saw a teenager 'jostle' a man (and then threaten to have he and his friends kick his ass) on the C-train, and then use the excuse "I'm a minor, you can't touch me" to avoid repercussions, is a direct sympotom/result of having that kid growing up with nothing to fear. If my dad found out I did something like that (being an asshole in public, disrespecting my elders, etc.) I would have had my ass whooped. Looking back, I would say it would have been well-deserved.

I Dont Care Where Imigrants Come From
theloniusfleabag replied to JMH's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Troll, You are a liar as well. From the original article... whereas you started your post with You changed the wording so you could begin mid-sentence, and give the appearance that you began the sentence there. I have no obligation to respond to the disingenuous, and debating with a liar is a pointless exercise. If you believed in anything you posted, there would be no need for you to be a troll. -
Dear Moron-X, Indeed, one of my old signatures was "Corporal Punishment is better than General Mayhem". There certainly must be a limit, and a balance, of what constitutes 'reasonable force' when it comes to discipline, and I am personally glad that the courts recently upheld the 'spanking laws'. Our society has made it too easy to avoid personal responsibility, and some form of discipline is needed to teach children that there are consequences to actions. Sometimes it should be a reward, sometimes it needs to be 'hot backside'.

Confused about some bannings
theloniusfleabag replied to Shakeyhands's topic in Support and Questions
Dear August1991, We don't know what may have transpired between Shoop and Greg, perhaps Shoop PM'd him with a profanity-laced tirade, for reasons of hs own. Either way, I don't believe Greg has any obligation to explain it. He may choose to, but then again, if we disagree with his actions, we are free to leave.I would like to see more suspensions/bannings forthcoming, especially of those that continue to sreate multiple threads on the same, racially charged histrionics, but that's just me. -
