Yeah, the first time he had to change his mind was because he based his projections on the budget brought down by Lyin' Jim Flaherty who projected a budget surplus when in fact the province was seriously in the hole. Is there any way Lyin' Jim can be prosecuted for fraud like those Enron guys? Well probably not because he just keeps doing it .

Unlocking Locked in Pension's ( LIF, LIRF, LIRA )
Higgly replied to Bill C's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Is this the extent of your understanding of the problem? These people do not have the training, nor the experience, to understand all the implications of their policies. Look at the Canada Ponzi Plan. -
Here here! The Catholic School system is an anachronism that dates back to the days when there were two dominant cultures in the province: the Protestants and the Catholics. That time has long passed. Time to move on. One public school system. If you want to teach your kid religion, then either do it in the home or do it in your place of worship. Separation of church and state. Why are we still having this problem? I have yet to see John Tory do anything but fling dung at Dalton McGuinty. Even a monkey can do that. When are we going to hear what John Tory stands for? Does he really stand for anything? Remember that John Tory ran for mayor of Toronto and in the middle of the election announced that he would only stay in municipal pilitics for a short time and then move on. Sure enough, he lost and he moved on. Another Belinda. The Conservatives seem to have a talent for finding these people.

King Abdullah of Jordan met with Golda Meir on the eve of the 1948 war and promised that he would not attack Israel's borders, as defined by the UN. He kept his promise. During the 1948 war, Israel attacked Jordan and took land. Golda of course made no promises. Who's the villain now, JBG?

I think the Simon Wiesenthal Center did a great job in hunting down Nazi murderers. Apparently it has decided to expand its mandate. When did this happen?

Can we fight the Israeli boycott of Palestinian labour too?

Iran Caught Red-Handed Shipping Arms to Taliban

Well, for some reason. Hmmmm. What might those reasons be. Hmmm...... Reasons.... Hmmmm... Searching....... -
Too bad the big opportunity was missed. Who does own MapleLeafWeb?

Living in Toronto, it's hard not to notice the gun-homicide stats being constantly ratcheted up. Every day it seems another victim falls to gun violence. Every once in a awhile some jackass from the US Drug Enforcement Agency rears up on his hind legs and whines about BC marijuana leaking into the US. When are we going to see a similar attack from 'Stevie' about the huge problem Uncle Sam's guns are creating up here? US guns are the biggest law enforcement problem in Canada. At least you have a choice as to whether you take drugs. Gun homicide victims do not. American guns are a big, big problem in Canada and it gets bigger every day. When is our government going to do something about it besides sit on its thumb and suck in its cheeks?

A quarter page shot of Paris being sent back to prison made the front page of the Toronto Sun on Saturday. A couple of weeks ago, the Sun had a big picture of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on the front page. I mention this, because a month or so ago, there was thread asking what people thought of the Sun as a news source I am having trouble understanding why the Sun still exists. You can get the same crap for free at every subway entrance.

I saw a post back on page one from someone who thinks John Tory has a great resume. The guy has little political experience. He ran for mayor of Toronto and during the campaign publicly stated that he was only in it for the short term and would move on after "setting things right." A real career politician. Reminds me of Belinda Stronach. He got a lot of votes in the upper income ridings in the Yonge/St Clair-Lawrence belt because he wanted to hire millions of dollars worth of more police. If there is one thing the rich love, it is more cops. Little did he utter about the fact that the areas of the city with the highest crime rate have the smallest police stations. One of the biggest cop shops in the city is at Yonge and Eglinton, the part of the city with the lowest crime rate. St. James Town folk have been begging for a police kiosk for years. John Tory is just another ideologue like Mike Harris.

Iran Caught Red-Handed Shipping Arms to Taliban
Higgly replied to scribblet's topic in The Rest of the World
It should come as no surprise to anyone that in Iran there are probably people hollering: "US Caught Red-Handed Shipping Arms to Jalal Talabani". Every day I come here and I marvel at the extent of the "myside-ism" that exists here. My side is always right, and the other side is always wrong. This is what got us into this mess in the first place and as long as it exists, we will stay mired in this mess. -
You could make the same statement about the Palestinians. And then where are you? Stuck in neutral as always. Well right now, my point is that you are being disingenuous.

"...bullhorns raging against the west." What does that mean? What were they raging? People rage all the time. That having been said, I agree that any enshrinement of Sahria law is a mistake. We have a system of law, and that is one of the pillars of our society. When you apply for entry, you are applying under the legal system. More than one legal system is just not logical.

"Gold Meir has a vocabulary of 500 words, but she only uses 300 of them." Abba Eban. There was a segment on C-SPAN the other day showing Dennis Ross, Clinton's chief Middle East negotiator, giving a lecture on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1967 war. He was talking about windows of opportunity and how they come so seldom and are only open for a short space of time. He said that the death of Arafat, which coincided with Sharon announcing his policy of 'disengagement' was one such opportunity but that the Bush administartion was focussed elsewhere - i.e. Iraq. I think he's right about the windows of opportunity, although I don't agree that Clinton (or Ross) had a clue as to how to achieve peace. It is no accident that Oslo was negotiated with the leaders of the US, Israel, and the Palestinians, acting at arm's length. These 3, left to their own devices, may never be able to produce a peaceful resolution.

I think I'll let Rue have the final word here.

Militant Islam - A People of Beggars, Extorters and Takers
Higgly replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
JBG was attacking Moslems. I was referring to people who never cite any reliable sources and have problems with spelling. You appear to have put your own special spin on it. This thread has nowhere to go but downhill. -

Shame on the Left and its Vicious Hatred of Israel

I use the term when I am discussing te British Mandate. Jews coming into Palestine at that time referred to themselves as Zionists and were referred to, quite properly, as Zionists. -

Taking the behaviour of one person and extrapolating it to a characteristic of an entire group is generally something that racists engage in. -
You are now descending into sophistry on the question of where Palestine actually is. I guess I've won the debate. It was White Doors who claimed I was arguing against Israel's right to exist. I guess all you illiterates look the same. You're off the hook

How about this point in time. I usually don't like to cite Wikipedia because it is so vulnerable to the likes of you (i.e. people who invent history to suit their arguments) but this article has been locked and appears to be well cited. Note the first sentence.... "Palestine (from Latin: Palaestina; Hebrew: פלשתינה Palestina; Arabic: فلسطين Filasṭīn, Falasṭīn) is one of several names for the geographic region between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River..." I note that you don't seem to read books, but I will cite these anyways.... "One Palestine Complete: Jews and Arabs Under the British Mandate", Tom Segev "The Iron Wall: Israel and the Arab World", Avi Shlaim "Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World", Margaret MacMillan And don't forget, Dancer. I am still waiting for you to show me where I have argued against Israel's right to exist. Now that I have refuted yet another one of the red herrings you lot like to throw up, Dancer, it is time for you to justify this claim.

That's why the first Zionist conference sent three rabbis to scout out Palestine . By the way, the rabbis' report was a simple telegram that read: "The bride is beautiful, but she is married to someone else." Still waiting Vladimir....
-
I'm the only one who is citing well-researched published works written by accredited historians. All of which, by the way, have maps in them showing Palestine to be exactly what I am saying it is. Most of what I see from you lot is a hazy mixture of wishful thinking, dinner table gossip, spin and half truths. Do any of you actually ever read anything or do you just sort of feed off of each other's fantasies? By the way, Dancer. I am still waiting for you to show me where I argued against Israel's right to exist, or shall I just start calling you Vladimir?

You'd be a lot easier to take seriously if you'd learn to use the apostrophe correctly.
