  1. US bowling team is comprised of Corporate Fat Cats and have been seen passing off bowling balls with three foot smoking fuses to capured Arabs. Read it in Al Jazeer. Threatened their families with a job at a Cola Factory too.
  2. Our military system is great, we, as a supporting country are garbage. There you go, out of thirty million we have sixty thousand good guys and gals. Let the rest of us become great too and give them what the world needs, a Canadian military period so we don't have to make 'has been' posts al the time and have some efect on this panet instead of complaining about how others are doing it wrong.
  3. true. however, the vast majority of users take it purely for recreational purposes. Hence, while it is legal to use a perscribed narcotic, it is still illegal to drive with it or operate safety sensitive equipment. Same as MJ. The persription point is valid but the difference is that MJ is illegal until it is changed. While driving with a perscribed narcotic is illegal, it is not as common as driving with a MJ high, hence the undue attention given this drug. In your case (I hope it gets better, does it) there is a legitimate need for it it seems. In this case, with lack of a roadside test, a forfiture of Dl and any permits that have to deal with firearms, pilots, Doctors licenses would be in order then - have at 'er! That to me would be the legal way to go. Of course, I assume that you are as sane as we all seem to be for the most part here and would also assume that like I would never drive under the influence on my own recognesance that either would you. I sAid legal, not moral. Remember, when passing out laws the government always deals with the lowest common denominator and you have to admit, there are some low ones out there.
  4. Of course we should have as many trading parners as possible, remember though, transportation of goods is of paramount importence to pricing. If we have to send a widget halfway across the world for a customer to buy then who absorbs the shipping cost? If it is us then we will of course send it south rather than east. If it is them, then they will quickly look for a cheaper yet relatively same quality item closer to home. As for who should be our trading parners? What is it you want to trade? I find that private industry is very ingenious at finding trading parners without government sponsored study groups. If they can make a buck for the teachers pension fund and themselves, they will do it.
  5. You said Then I said You then went on about how nobody can tell their boss to go ...... Is that my problem? Get better at what you do then tell him as you head out the door to freedom again .... and a better job. What is stopping you or them? See, that is what is the slave mentality, fear of trying, surety of failure. I know you understood it as you then posted this In the same way that some are slaves to their impulse tho help others. Like get real here. I am not sure what you are on about here. Is it social programs for people that have a FREE VOTE like we all do or is it freedom like dictatorships and getting hands and heads cut off for minor infractions against the government? Please specify, I mean, you were on about Iraq then went on to talk about poor and bosses and such.
  6. This is where you fail to see what the situation is. Where would the President go to get properly briefed while in a school Ceasar? The washroom? Principals office? Remember, nobody except OBL knew what was going on so there was no place to get 'properly briefed' as there was no briefing to give as the situation was unfolding. When this came up, his aides I am sure were on the situation trying to find out whatever could be found out. Bush, while waiting for them to get it down into intelligence that could be passed onto him did what he was supposed to have done, carry on like he was supposed to. Not freak out like you would have him. I would assume that like the PM, Bush has a team of between ten to twsenty security agents guarding him. With the school already swept As well, his higher security people were probably at that time trying to figure out where they would best place Bush to safeguard him. During those minutes I am sure that the helecopter or whatever would have been started, as well as Air Force One would have been readied as well. All in place just waiting for the security guys to figure out where they would take Bush. This I would imagine would take a few minutes at least what with assessment of airspace and travel time and all, not to mention the verifgying that there were in fact no other aircraft en route to where they would be going. During this time, with no briefing to get, no place to go, as the school was safer than any unknown place, what and where would you place the most powerful man in the free world? And other than carrying on with what he was doing at the time, what would you have him do? He is the President, not the limo driver, not the janitor, not the pilot or security specialist. He is the guy that heads the USA. He doesn't need to have his ass turned in fifty different directions in the heat of confusion. He needs to be safeguarded, then properly briefed once the situation is known so that he can make decisions rather than emotional calls. In the army I used to be a radio man for a couple of Generals at different times. Why do you think the old fart didn't just carry his own rucksack with a twenty pound radio, spare batteries, platoon ammo and all so that going out of the aircraft he would weigh in at over 400 lbs like the rest of us? Easy, we want him to be fresh, focused and able to move to get information by which he would make crucial life and death decisions with, not dig holes. He didn't need his mommy, we needed him able to make decisions, not be confused and tired as hell like the rest of us. You on the other hand would have Bush say 'gotta go' and then stand around outside having a smoke while everybody did their thing to figure out security, airspace allocation and a sweep of the airpace right? You would have him do that standing beside AirForce One in the middle of a tarmac like a sitting duck in the middle of an attack? I take it you don't guard VIPs for a living. Is that a reasonable assumption?
  7. Yes, I like the Canadian stlye better, however, if you are in the middle of a war zone and on the fly, the US one will do quite nicely until things get down to some sort of normalicy in a few years. Myself, I prefer it to say Communism or a theocracy, even a Monarchy. People busy building their own lives, making things better for themselves as they have opportunity are much less likely to build belt bombs. Really? What are you, or 'the population' not free to do? I'm not wealthy and seem to do an awful lot. I've been all over the world, built a couple of sucessful companies, own a house and all, have friends, kids. Like, are you painted to the freakin' chair or what? We, in your definition are all slaves to at least one thing or another, like apathy, greed, lust, ambition, empathy, sorrow, rage. Why not self betterment? Seems as good as any. To say that their being class divisions is true, money does that, same as party affiliation, education, geographic residency, beliefs, race and on and on. One of those that can be changed is wealth. Anybody can become wealthy given the right circumstances - ambition, education, inginuity, hard work and .....lots of luck. The first step in getting over this 'vitim' mentality is to understand that you have control and that it is your responsibility, nobody elses. Work with me here, you actually have to believe in yourself as I am too busy getting on with my FREE life.
  8. Hi, welcome! Not a Bush Bot but can probably add some light. See, Bush has aides and people all over himk thatdo their individual jobs. He has pilots waiting here and there, bodyguards, advisors, communications guys, the guy that carrries the 'foot ball', the guy that has his schedule, the guys that decide where he is to go in case this goes wrong and whatever else. On that day, scince nobody knew exactly what was going on, where was he to go? Would you have preffered him to run out of the classroom and take charge by .............doing what? And doing that what where? Even nonw we know there was no clear place to go. Sure, while his guys figured out as much as they could, they got Airforce Once wound up and took the most powerful man in the free world (the guy with the nuclear football) to what his security people figured would be the safest place they could get him to in the shortest amount of time - remote airspace. While they were getting their act together, what was he to do? Whip them? Whip the kids? Wring his hands and go 'Oh me, oh my?' No, he showedf remarkable steel and did what any good president wourld, carry on with the task at hand until it was time to act, then he allowed his people to do their jobs. I would expect that of every senior statesman. To think that he should have flown to NYC or Washington is laughable, in time of war, when there is enemy activity and an unknown numer of them at work you do not take you most importent player and throw him in harms way unessesarily. Once you can access the threat and the action to be taken you can act, until then, you protect.
  9. I should hope that those who view this man as the truth would do a bit of research. I mean, he has a website that takes on questions and concerns but has not addressed the following to any degree. I don't mind the left or the right, I do mind that an idividual can make a supposedly true documentary movie with a predetermined ending and skew facts, time frames, quotes out of context and so on so that his political agenda is met and find that he has an actual audience. Even more so, I question the intelligence, no, I shake my head at the stupidity of those who view his work as anything more than a twenty first century Leni Revenstahl with none of the artistic talent. That is not to say that his message is wrong, however, there are so many bogus manipulations of fact here in his work that to find the 'facts' themselves, one has to wade through editing tricks, emotional inuendos and partisan politics that would make the Klan evious. And the Left calls this a triumph. For who? You want to talk about lies and deciept in order to fulfil a political agenda? Hmmm ...... Ceasar (poster on this forum) once said that if only 30% of the movie were true, it is a revelation of astounding proportions to the degeneracy of the Bush administration or something to that effect. Well, which 30% is it folks? There is so much that can be proven false in it I would be hard put to figure it out myself, yet you guys revel this ingenious manipulator because he is simply a self confessed individual who's agenda is 'to get Bush out of the white house.'? Some facts a bout F 911 Argue with facts, not tricks. This guy may help get Bush out of the White House, but it in no way makes his work anything more than the pure propaganda that it is. BTW, why isn't anybody using his work in this film as arguing points in other forums on this board? Answer: Because you know that more than half of it is bullshit and can't figure out which half it is.
  10. What I am saying and I think Cosby is as well is not to forego the civil rights progress we have today but rather place more emphasis on the individual and his or her personal responsibility. Not paint the same picture of the 'poor minority' caractiture over and over in everybody's minds. It provides an all too handy excuse for failure for the ones who are trying to escape and can act as a reson not to even bother trying.
  11. Caesar, you are making sense. Great point, you are going to make my head hurt for a while. Thanks. I think this one was out to lunch though: Simple reason that it was already there and was legal. The laws caught up with the drug, not the other way around. The rest about the prescription stuff is valid though, very. Off the top of my head I will throw out this easily torn apart thought; The stuff is for temporary use and is not recreational. Shoot, I'll tear it apart myself, half that junk is addictive anyhow and becomes recreational. Well, help me figure that one out or are you one sided?
  12. It was already addressed but I thought I would try and mention something in another way. Would not a cultural disipline do the same thing? Something like a martial art or a common project such as building an object larger than your present society? May not get you to heaven but it sure takes your mind off day to day problems. I don't think it is the discarding of Archeic Belief Systems but rather the lack of time to believe in them. I know that when I get to bed at midnight or whatever after a full day of work and leisure I go straight to sleep. (even after getting a knuckle rapping from Black Dog) I am a believer though not very devout. I find that as the days get busier God gets further and further from my mind then ...... one a sleepless night, all the things I have done wrong come back to me and I wonder if they were really as bad as I imagine or am I over doing it in my imagination. I wonder if god will forgive me for them and all. Then, when I wake up and pur the first shot of bourbon into the coffee and set the big rig in motion to head for the 401 I forget all about it. A few phone calls from my admirers and waves from the populace cheers me up and it gets further from my mind. I think he is just as relevent today as he was two thousand years ago, we just don't have time anymore.
  13. Na, too phisophical. Main point is historicly, populations try their best to increase. it is testament to the peacefulness of the past couple of centuries in comparisson to the rest of history that they have grown faster and faster. You need peace and civilization to feed and develop medicine and technology as well as maximize food harvesting and production. If we left the middle east and never went back they would starve on a huge scale. If we left Europe to Europe, they too would hurt in a severe way. I mean, there is a good reason why there are no oil rigs in Hamilton Ontario, same as there are no computor chip factories in a corn feild in kansas. Nor do we manufacture car parts on a Herring boat in the Berring Sea. You can't go back to the old ways when the sons of Abraham are as many as the stars in the sky. In short, you find a beautiful Island in the Pacific where a hundred fifty years ago, the people were self sufficient. Give them all a part of the modern world and then build a beautiful resort there so that oil workers from kuwait can go on vacation and rub shoulders with a wheat farmer from Saskatchewan. Unless of course, people figure that Moosomin Sask is a prefferable vacation spot, in which case my argument has a flaw and the Polynesians will starve.
  14. Thanks for clearing that up, all I hear is 'legalization' etc. Still though, it appears that there would be little or no legal difference. I mean now, cops look at a kid with a joint and then decide on his guilt or innocence by what other crime called them there in the first place. The dope being incidental. If he does the 'yes sir, no sir' routine and hasen't beaten somebody to a pulp it is probably not even recorded. If I took it up I stronly doubt if anyone would ever invade my home in search of a 'killer gram.' My point will forever go back to the safety and roadside test. Why give even a quasi official endorsement when you cannot regulate it. it opens doors that should remain closed until they have something they can work with.
  15. Actually, he was asking for your opinion and you answered by dancing around the question and pretending that he is out of whack in some way shape or form. The question was pretty simple, a legal one. What, if sucessful will Pro Life people do to women who absolutely refuse to care or provide in any way for the baby they would then be legaly bound to provide and care for? What extent are Pro Life people willing to go? If you are Pro Life and feel that this question addresses an issue you have then you should respond to it and bring forth more discussion. Instead, you dance around it. Nope. Would like to know if you are of the opinion that abortion should be illegal, how, if sucessful, you plan to implement it during pregancy in order to stop a woman determined to end the pregnacy in whatever way she can. That's the question, not how many Jeffery Dahlmers, Platos or Hitlers you can save. It's an interesting question. It revolves around the crux of the main argument. Individual freedom, and of course, when does life begin and an idividual becomes two people.
  16. Na, the people needed an emotional POd statement. In fact, they deserved it, to top it off, it may act as a bit of a deterrent to another wierdo killer. I agree with Sweal and Maple though, he should not have said it like that as a 100%. That was bogus. The guy can get off or have his sentence reduced or whatever if they can use bias as an argument. Certainly the police in this case seem pretty sure he is the guy to the exculsion of all others. Possibly the next time he might employ a speech writer or a legal assistant to check his musings. 'If this guy is found guilty, we are gonna make him hurt." would be fairly emotional, settling the blood lust of the public without infringing on the 'innocent until proven guilty' type of thing.
  17. They will do whatever they can, however, security and smuggling will be the task they will work against just as they do now. It will increase whether your boss gets pissed or not. Costs for waiting time will go up no matter how hunky dory you feel it will be, costs for increased customs activity will go up and hence costs thrown on the duty of the products crossing the border. As for saying it mostely comes from Mexico, that may be true however every now and then there is a major bust on our border. Last one I heard of was in February in Detroit, some truker going back home with an 'empty' trailer. It had ten skids of dope on board. Lobbyists? Get real, we're talking an illegal substance that would be legal in Canada to some degree. If anybody listened to any lobbyist who wasn't willing to put up the bucks for customs increases they might as well stop looking for bombs as they seem to be legal in some societies of the world. Actually, I take back my point where I gave one of the reasons why it should not be legalized 'trade with the US.' That is not the point. They make sense. They do not make this stuff illegal simply because they are dummies who haven't caught the 'wave.' Red necks they are not. It is a safety issue. Until there is a proven, affordable-roadside test to determine the intoxication level of an idividual, it will remain illegal there, as it should be here. The point of the trade cost is valid, it probably would cost an extra hundred dollars a truck load. At twenty thousand trucks a day along our common border, that adds up PDQ. Add to that the US truckers skipping across to deliver a load knowing they will spend a couple hours in line on the way home, rates go up, in turn, ours will follow. That's a lot of dough so people can get 'legally' high in a country where it is all but legal now. I think that if we want to make our country progressive, we should do it safely and get the test down before we make it legal, then at least we might lead the world in toxicoligy testing or whatever. Make a few bucks instead of losing them.
  18. Unless I am reading this wrong, both left and right here agree that this deal is crap and should've gone down in the Mulroony days, even if he was a crook. Amazing, we all see the same here.
  19. The chocolate bars they make at the Hershey plant in Smith Falls Ontario. We could shut it down and stop shipping the bars south. Millions of US kids would suffer and we would show those arrogant bastards who is in charge. Of course, you put hundreds of people out of work on both sides of the border as well as the truckers moving the frieght, send a mutual fund or two nosediving along with a few RRSPs, but anything to fulfil this little fantasy. On the plus side, the guys that make the wrappers in North Carolina would be out of work too. Tee Hee. Really though, our government deals with another government. It doesn't come down to whether we like them or they like us, it's all mutually benificial. Their goods come north and many only have a widget welded onto them and then are returned for finishing work and sale abroad. They bring us prosperity and we give them breaks on wages that they would have to pay US workers. If you do find this magical comodity I would be very interested to see what it was. If it is oil, then they would simply not buy it and start using their own or find it someplace else. If it is power, they will build more plants. We are by no means the end all as Mexico is just as close. They also have their little problems with the US same as us. Are they turning down jobs and dollars for nationalistic pride? Now there is an idea.! Make this plan with Mexico and you might have something. Got to be careful though, if you pirce this service or whatever too high they will find an overseas producer for it then a lot of Canadaians are out of work and the tax base decreases. (yours goes up) Not sure what you mean. I spend most of my time in the US and although everybody knows there is a war going on, nobody is captivated by it to the point where is enters everyday disicussion. Did you mean our criticising them?
  20. Not positive about this but I worked out in Alberta for a few years in the patch. The oil we worked with in Wabaska was piped to Chicago, it wasn't fuel grade. I think somebody said they used it for roads, plastics, oil, grease and stuff like that. Hopefully somebody can come forward with some better facts as mine are pretty loose. I just wanted to say that not all oil is created (or sold) equal.
  21. Really now? He wasn't always rich and famous as he came from the gehto himself. Second, I think the idea of a keynote speaker at an African American function is to get a winner of some kind up there to speak, not a loser. You know, give some sort of advice on how he got there or how others may follow. I guess if you were making the marquee, Clarence Thomas, Jesse Jackson, Condelizza Rice and thier 'type' would be unfit to speak with any resonance? What I note, as a member of a visably decreasing racial group myself, is that he called it like it is. People have to stop blaming others for their problems. In a country where you have many whites calling for a black man and a black woman to seek the presidency, (and I think they would pretty good at it if not better than the present one) things seem to have changed a bit. Granted, there are still problems, but they only go so deep and is decreasing day by day. Racism in no way means that people can sit on their duffs and wait to get taken care of by a form of government or aid of some kind that may never come. We all work with what we have. If life dealt you a bad hand then better get good at playing it because help may or may not come. Bad cards do not enable you to give up the game. In the meantime, civil liberties should never be placed on the backburner, yet never allow it to replace personal responsibility. That's what Cosby was on about.
  22. Carter was the worst followed by Bush Sr then a toss up between Bush and Clinton. Haven't decided yet. Regan was tops of this short list for sure and maybe beyond. Not a chance, even he is wondering what the hell happened. The US changed and he couldn't catch up. What worked all his life didn't this time. I'm no fan of Bush's but am pretty darned sure that this war was definitely not about WMDs but rather it was an excuse to provide an environment in the heart of the Middle East where democracy can take hold. Saddam was likely the world's most disposable leader and arguably, (I say that so this thread does not go off on that tangent again) there were enough legal reasons to go for it. Certainly there were no illegalities to stop it. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time is all. What he knows? Maybe he can tell us where something is but that is moot now. Bush may get elected or not on what they find or not in the next few months but the overall situation does not depend on Bush as Kerry will also stay until it is seen through. The main voters lines were drawn long ago and it's only those who are undecided left over. MM may get a few of them but it will be a good election this time I'm sure. I just hope that Kerry gets some good policies in line so that we can understand what the hell he finally stands for instead of his ambiguous comments about how 'we have to do better.'
  23. Perhaps then, you could sum up the actual intelligence diseminating process for us. Not what you think, but rather the actual process in which it goes from the feild to the CIA/FBI and then onto the higher echelons. I can appreciate that the President might get some info sooner than others or vice versa but would like to know at what point the President is able to circumvent the Intelligence Community as it is they who provide him with the information through the various bi-patisan Intelligence comittees. Educate us please. Clearly? Provde the process and then show us the two versions of what the Sub Comittee had and what Bush had. Please provide evidence for this event. How was he and at what time was he? What liberties have the American people lost? Why do you feel that Kerry will change the patriot act and in what form is he proposing to do that? Other than saying yesterday that he agrees that the US belongs in Iraq and that he thinks it should be different, how does Kerry propose things should be different?
  24. Shut it down? Provide some facts please. I heard about Disney but they hardly make up the whole Republican party. From the audience: No answers though. They are too busy doing their jobs is why. When and if she does her reasearch she will find it is not all factual and possibly suspect the motives of it. Debate in which the issues will be given fair and unbiased play in the minds of voters. Bullseye for MM! So in effect, the movie will sway those who do not know what is going on. Not a bullseye. Exactly. It's not factual, has holes in it and makes suppositions that when scrutinized show the true aganda behind it. While likely to sway those who don't have a clue it also has admittedly sparked interest in others who, given time and research will see that it is not the truth. My fellings on the movie are that it is pure, unadulterated bull. Will it have an effect on the election? Yes, but faily minimal I think.
  25. I agree and in fact see nothing more hrmful than alcohol. I do not think the idea that people can drive around stoned and have no way of legally detecting that is good. In fact, it makes for a lot of safety issues. As well, scince 80% or our financial life lies with the Red Necks down south, and there is a border to cross that takes a truck two to three hours at this point in time, I dare not imagine the cost in $ that having legalized MJ in Canada will add to the price of transport, not to mention security at the border in searches and all. Nothing is free and the money will come from somewhere. I don;t want it to come from my pocket is all. Legalize it and sell it, tax the living daylights out of it and have the proceeds go directly to US customs to pay for all the new dogs they will have as well as our trukers that will endure countless hours at the border. Take drivers, pilots, docotors, gun, heavy equipment, captains licences away from those who wish to smoke and have weekly drug tests for those that don't. Until of course we have a reliable roadside test. Hey, I'm all for it!
