  1. That just about says it all. you dont even want to come to grips with what this is all about. You just want to shout your unqualified, narrow minded opinions all over the place. WHat is the point of that - other than feeding a wounded ego?
  2. It may be "my" Criminal code but you are completely misinterpreting it. You are making a mockery of all the true victims of genocide, and I seriously hope it comes home to haunt you. The genocide section of your Criminal Code comes from directly from the International Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide Article II which states: Article 2 In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; ( Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; © Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group. Article 2 ( © and (e) does not mean you have to cause death! And clearly defines what constitutes genocide. Canada became a signatory on November, 28, 1949. You might also want to pay close attention to Article 3 as well! Article 3 The following acts shall be punishable: (a) Genocide; ( Conspiracy to commit genocide; © Direct and public incitement to commit genocide; (d) Attempt to commit genocide; (e) Complicity in genocide. I know, I know...here it is! http://www.hrweb.org/legal/genocide.html Go Talk to a Tutsi or a Hutu, about Genocide. You are cheapening the tragedy of their deaths, with your lame comparison. NOPE. (im non-native by the way) Naturally, academics have made distinctions between the forms of genocide - obviously academics from Rwanda. In your cushioned opinion, you can call a particular form of genocide "cheap". But what we are speaking of is genocide and intentions, excuses for doing it - not weighing up the methods of genocide . . . Rather, the people of rwanda would be the first to identify the subtleties of North American first world genocidal practices. A form of genocide which has been practiced all over the world. Rwanda used the "cheap" quick fix mechanism - of genocide and were well aware of the difference needless to say. So free health care, tax free land and commmodities, education, assistance programs, and freedoms other Canadians are not afforded, is Genocide??????? Yam you are off your rocker. It is the 'kind' form of genocide. Assimilation. These come at a cultural/legal price. They would have to give up their tribal rights. They have to become Canadian which means they have to give up their status and specialised laws in the treaty. Many do (so iv heard) and`do become tax payers. But again at a HUGE price. It is a cultural genocide because you have to 'become' canadian to recieve these packages. Its either become a citizen of be starved out parallel. . . .to put it crudely. . . .or truthfully!! Besides, these assistance programs are a cop out. A cheaper way for the canadian gov to be 'seen' as an attempt at repairment. But in reality and motive, it is to avoid paying the huge ammounts that is owed to them from land appropriation. IMPORTANTLY, If they were paid what was owed ( to f/n) each nation would BUY there education and not have the Canadian tax payers pay . . . albeit only then initially since they would get it back through taxation in the longer term. We dont get to hear this side of the coin. Further, so all the government loans etc are not given but will be paid back through taxation -so its not even a small compensation. . . even if we only speak in figures. For a start many cant even get into university by passing entrance exams - due to shoddy education. So grants etc become redundent here and are left idly sitting - useless. Now if i were you, you should take it up with your government that you voted in to demand satisfaction of the deal in social spending concerning your citizenry. Its not f/ns fault that it chooses to lie and fiddle you out of what is owed you. Perhaps you could learn from the f/n standpoint of holding your government to a deal - No!!! So we can now understand why many f/ns do not want to be assimilated into a nation of merchants. With a wholly different and dishonourable way of existance - despite the temptation to put food on the table. Dont think that Canada has f/ns at heart. it wants to remould them into bland canadians that do not have a culture or absolutely nothing to give up. For the government you are an earner which uts money into their elitist pockets. Nothing more, nothing less.
  3. It is no wonder that the meaning of the word has been "fogged up". Once a genocide has been identified through intention and practise, then the offenders have to face legal prosecution. Even the activities in rwanda were denied as 'genocide' for a while by blanketting the issues. Hence we have in Canada a perpetual denial driven by the educators of all people. It is as interesting as it is horrifying in view of its lethal but elusive descriptive and written character. I read the supplied definitions here and am not happy with them because the wording is not solid enough to ward off interpretation. Each description implies a lack of measurability that courts of law could use - the question of degrees. But i think this very factor serves a terrible purpose. In fact a refusal to clarify an unquestionable meaning makes prosecution of it impossible. Therefore it will serve to secure its further practice. And yes i do think f/ns have suffered and are suffering from genocide -
  4. This is very complicated stuff, In laymans terms: There is a great difference between the Zionists and the Jews. . . politically. The zionists demand a pure nation state of israel and will fight to the death for it. Whereas the Jews just want to get this sorted out once and for all and live in peace. The jews have been expelled and pushed around from pillar to post from the beginning of time. So they wish to share the land and so fourth despite who owns the sacred rights as it were. Many even support palestine and want to help them. However, these ones are stuck in Israel alongside the broader radical and extremely right wing zionists. The Jewish lobbyists in the US are the right leaning zionists/representatives. Hence . . .the economic interests that US and Israel share through advancing right wing agendas. In fact any political activity involving Israel is always backed up/supported by the US. Hezbollah The invasion into lebanon by Israel was to squash Hezbollah since it enjoyed much support. If not support, then it was accepted and tolerated. It was not terrorist. It stepped in when the gov failed in supplying its people with necessary infrastructure. It also helped to try and release people that were wrongly accused of being a terrorist. Anybody that did not whole heartedly support Israeli policies etc. Now its trying to protect the lebanese from being blown to smitherines. Israel is trying to do this since we have seen footage showing their bombing of bridges and borders to stop the lebanese people from escaping. Also we have coverage of it breaking its promise of not using air strikes etc
  5. What . . .you mean the two of them. What about the hundreds of untried, unconvicted prisoners Israel has got then? Thats why hezbollah captured these two in the first place. A desperate attempt to free illegally siezed lebanese civilians.
  6. Cubans love Castro (yes iv been and talked) However, they want some of the 'allowances' democracies have like travelling abroad. . .and more disposable income. They think that he is behind the times but speak of him affectionately, and rely upon him Nonetheless, as one of the poorest countries in the world, the people are all housed. Something they cannot understand is the comparison with Canada wealth (in top 5 richest countries) and homelessness - poverty- wealth distribution. Need i mention Cuba's first class health care system. Castro is not a dictator rather he suffers huge trade blockages with the many countries that allign themselves with the US. The plan was and has been to the present to pulverise the Cuban economy to force it to conform to the American standard of democray since the cold war. Cuba to this day has refused. (genocide perhaps??? . . .no i won't even go there) The people of Cuba are frightened that when Castro dies - the US are going to pound the s*it out of them if his brother does not 'assimilate' his leadership with Bush. Though they still say that they will be economically worse off anyway and regardless Castro wanted to trade between nations, to bring home or to afford the technical innovations and pleasures of the West for his people. He is not romantically anti-materialist etc AS COMMONLY BELIEVED OF ANYTHING FLYING THE FLAG OF SOCIALISM/COMMUNISM. Rather the world simply will not let him modernise and shout equality for all. Why? It simply would show that equality is possible that is why and that corporations` would have to share their profits. He is one of the last socialist countries to topple . . his not going to give up but he may die.
  7. Indeed! And pretty rigorously too. Yet what still amazes me is that in order for genocide to occur (here) is, it implicitly relies on public misinformation. It makes one wonder who is worse. The government or its citizens. The latter are surely as responsible for holding their government to his/her responsibility. As for the government it can in turn rely on its citizens for their lack of an enquiring mind (let alone critical thoght). We are not speaking of having to read volumes and volumes of history. Rather, simply to examine the 'way' things are presented.
  8. Unlevel is a curious word. The late 20th century was a aberration in human history where one country had overwhelming dominance over the world. The 21th century will return to the world where there are many competing and equal powers. The US can do nothing to stop this trend. The US does not want to stop this trend. It encourages it in the full knowledge that it has set the trading restrictions in the first place to be its winning benefactor. You say "the 21st century will return to the world where there are many competing and equal powers . . .'' competing implies winners and losers. You cannot 'compete' when all end up in equal place
  9. Such a bunch of subjective, emotionally charged twaddle. Typical yankee. Bush relies on the "right wing" lobbyists in the US for a large percentage of his vote. Its a fact whether you like it or not. The cold war was built upon US paranoia - everybody knows that - across all the political spectrum. yes europe has been a bastard. nobody was saying that it has not. In fact its finished its colonising except for stupid Blair in the UK The US has never stopped colonising - to this day. And no . . . the Europeans do not resent the US influence in WW11 because and ts 'belated' activity in the first world war. Im not certain how old you are . . . but - surely those that were involved and bitter are now dead anyway. Europeans see the wars and subsequent geographical divisions as a pointless war effort divide made for the ruling class. Alas. Its only you US citizens and zionists that cannot see this - due to your love of power. Dont go blathering archaic Sir Lancelot ideologies to me, get off your 'high donkey' and try weening yourself off the milky teet of Fox tv.
  10. Sounds great - However, are the best people going to go to a temp agency for a job in relation to job security and perhaps the lack of benefit packages. . .retention package - not familiar with this term - but you mean an extended agreement say for six months or a a rear? If only temporary positions (despite possible extensions) are offered it normally reflects the economic confidence of the company and a hire and fire resolve in the face of pending down turns. Im just feeling my way here in the face of oil projections, supply and demand issues - the relation to employment and contracts.
  11. It is incompetency of the U.S. Indian Affairs secretary. The poorest people in all of the U.S. live in South Dakota and the poorest of the poor are Indians. It doesn't seem like much they're asking for in this case and the government is brushing them off. I don't think that was the case when in Canada when the provinces and the federal government came to an agreement on the First Nations. Hopefully, Harper will ratify that agreement. Yes indeed to your first point. But what are you hoping Harper will ratify concerning all of canada's first nations? I must say any hope in Harper doing something hopeful for f/ns is rather dubious unless you mean dissolve or re - organise the corrupt bureaus of canadian Indian Affairs

  13. I don't know why the other link won't work but this is the main Yahoo page. Try this: http://news.yahoo.com/i/533;_ylt=AlovZFeVh...WtkBHNlYwM3MTg- Thankyou for this! So it would seem that help is needed from the government in the protection of the sioux nations sacred mountain. Or rather, and importantly to ask the government to restrain its own biker gangs that attend biker rallies and abuse the site with sales of alcohol etc. All in all disrespecting the sacred site/mountain. I suppose its rather like the non-native population in a particular town having a bunch of drunk bikers (the article mentioned mobile alcho stands) partying in the local graveyard - peeing against headstones and vomiting behind the church etc. I guess we would have to lobby government if the police failed to cooperate against hooliganism and vandalisation. . . . Still, im wondering what your major point was anyway. Are you questioning the right for the sioux leader to do this in view of previous posts concerning the use of social services ie afterall they do not pay taxes? Or were you posting it to show the incompetancy of Indian Affairs INAC etc as a protection? Not that many would disagree with you or the artical there - For such institutions are really branches off of government rule and leadership as opposed to indigenous autonomous structures of negotiation. Again, thanks for sending artical. I
  14. Yes indeed!! We need only to look at Stats Canada for an objective reality check. Putting aside the figures - i can honestly say id love to live there. But the cost is considerably high . . even if one has a profession.
  15. I dont think Canadians hate the US . . . yet. However many Europeans do. Albeit those in favour of free market, corporations and those in favour of US invasion with its coerced democracy. Thus we are speaking of over half the US population. US invasion is what is found apalling since many do read world history and can identify the many lying excuses he US uses to cover its ass. It insists upon re-writing history especially since the gulf war to justify rolling in the tanks all over the mid east. However, the worst offender has been the US accusing whole nations of harbouring terrorists withoue any proof. Look at iraq - An incredible embarrasment to many first world countries let alone the weight of the horror. Gore would have been a far better choice. Though of course he would have been pressured by the large internal Jewish lobby group, right wing think tanks and more to compromise his stand point. I dont know if he could have stood the pressure - then. The majority of the US citizens are at least honest enough to vote for a lieing cowaboy hick to lead in the hijaking of the world!!! No gushy liberal, heart rendering speaches for them!! Still, i do feel sorry for those that happen to be lumbered in America's blood bath of a melting pot serving its authoritarian democracy.
  16. As i remember the sands in economic terms fluctuate according to the price of oil imports. At the moment they are doing ok. However, to process it costs a fortune and is timely. The recent/past has shown that imports have been cheaper. Nonetheless, with the pending world oil crisis (apparently it has peaked and now is spiralling down since it cannot maintain the high demands for it), but all is ok here . . . so far. If Canada can maintain this - terrific. I wonder what is going to happen between the US and Canada in a few yrs about canadian oil supplying the US (let alone between Alberta and the other provinces rightly or wrongly). If Canada does not supply the US surely the latter will implement trade blocks to Canada's other resource export zones?
  17. yes it has been doing well. manual labour pays a lot their too as you said. However, im curious about economic the relationship in Alberta concerning working class women and employment. is the economy able to spill over into jobs such as the service sector et al? Is there equal`opportunity between men and women competing for employment say in the oil rigs, building sites etc? Otherwise it could be argued that only half of the working population is doing well. The other half (women) forming a larger economic lump with those on fixed incomes. Are the abministrative jobs that women usually fill paying something descent or does it fall to the wayside into the catagory of low minimal wage. Curious.
  18. Could not open this page. I wonder if you can tell me the essence of it. Or rather, what kind of help are they asking for?
  19. In some of the oil rich countries (Iran) immigrants are brought in to do the menial dirty tasks that its native citizens refuse to do. By all accounts, its becoming a universal economic 'trend'. Is there a new law banning immigrants from working in the food/service sector? I think not - since the last time i was there eating in a vietnamese restaurant the place was swarming with underpaid immigrant workers living in horrid conditions. Are canadians now having to do these awful underpaid tasks too or instead of them due to a lack of specialisted qualifications and availability in other areas?
  20. Your concluding question resembling Bush says it all really desite its comical nature. However, i think you will find that Mohawk self autonomy is the primary key of all that is going on in caladonia.
  21. . . . .haaahaaa, Just another attitude problem delivery - from Noah's Ark upon docking . . .in the territories of a 'brave new world'.
  22. The Clan Mother System is 100% anti violence. However, if these people are attacked they of course will defend themselves. So far it has been the caladonian residents that have tried to inflame violence. They are frustrated with barricades and having to take different routes to work. Not to mention having serious withdrawal symptoms from the local Tim Horton's doughnuts!!! An all time sugar low is sweeping Caladonia. . . .watch out for the diabetics - No really, as with any protest the media coverage always seeks to exagerate of lay complete blame on those protesting. Its boringly predictable to the point of being inevitable. . . The Clan Mothers have simply decided that they want ownership of their land back and recognised. The fuss is from all else. Once this is done then the developers can make a deal with them as opposed to the previous false owner. Who knows - might have even got a better deal with the Mohawks - anyway dealing directly with them would have saved an awful lot of agro and need not have gone to court.
  23. . . . . . the population does not want to pay for a social infrastructure . . . like hospitals in calgary for example
  24. Yes. And is this not what the metis natives are falling victim to? The legal definition of metis as aboriginal as opposed to sovereign first nation. I think the aboriginal definition includes some melting pot principle and claims to rights, whereas anybody defined by the latter has particularistic legal issues relating to specific sovereign treaty rights. Hence, metis are often pushed and pulled through the maze of interpretations concerning recognition of status, blood quantum vs culture - ugly things like that.
  25. Its not about claiming "more" money for these lands, its about being paid for what was not paid for - the initial agreed upon portions of land that are now home to the "squatters" (legal definition - really!!) or rather canadians. of course this is complicated because some canadian businesses/government have paid up others not. However, much of the interest that accumulated over the years was never paid. Only the original land price or its equivalent. Obviously we are now speaking huge ammounts of canadian interest rate debt here. Hence the long ardious battles in court . . . meanwhile say 20 yrs on from any initial court proceeding the interest rate upon the value of the land is still accumulating so further claims are called up - or a further totting up of all thats gone on throughout the procedure. The problem with a high percentage of treatise signed, is that years later under further scrutiny a twisting of the laws occured. Wording in the treatise is to say the least confusing. However, many have been rivetted with legal loop holes. Hence, chiefs have realised today (often tipped off by canadian lawyer firms by the way) that they lost out through sheer naivity - poor judgement and education, to economic deprivation and need - accepting any ammount to feed a tribe and also to lose out through legal clauses, changing policies that conflict etc. There has to be something to these claims otherwise the government would have cleaned up these issues years ago. Canada is by all accounts starting to look bad in the international community. Yet more to the point of proof over these lands we need only look to the legal profession who are more than willing to handle many cases. They would not bother if there was not more than a buck to make!!!! Besides this, Caladonian lands were leased out not sold off. The papers concerning the lease deal were all ready to be brought out to court. Unfortunately, they were miraculously destroyed before presentation. Ok, i wont go down the conspiracy road - but negotiations are still under way. In other words the claim was not thrown out which it could have been without any other burden of proof. If nothing was owed do you think the gov/businesses etc would spend all this time and money on these cases? often these cases cost a fortune. The fact they are still indulged does more than suggest the existence of these disputed debts. It would be totally irrational to think that the canadian government (or any other government come to that )is going to hand out a fortune for nothing. I wish it would at times though dont you?
