Disinformation and media propaganda
jdobbin replied to lost&outofcontrol's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Izzy Asper never lost a lawsuit against him nor was accused of raiding pension plans or stealing from his companies. David Asper, however, controls editorial policy at the National Post like no one's business. I have no idea how the Irvings run their operations. Thomson ran the Globe and Mail differently from the rest of his Canadian papers. He actually gave them money to increase the size of the paper and didn't interfere with editorial policy. -

Is Canada Branding itself as a Gay country?
jdobbin replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not sure people around the world think of Canada at all really. Europeans think we're Americans or just like them...except nicer. Most others in the world just think we have bears. -
Supreme Court to Decide Metis Claim
jdobbin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
French is no longer a defining characteristic of many Metis you mett nowadays. Many can't speak a word of it. -
Well done. But Chuck Norris sucks. Hard. That response had me laughing out loud. <heh>

The tolerant societies are the ones that usually have better economic prospects it seems. -
Supreme Court to Decide Metis Claim
jdobbin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Many Metis are unilinigual English. They are often indistinguishable from other people in Manitoba. The Metis themselves will have a hard time determining who is Metis because many Metis themselves are not aware that they are considered Metis. -

It's okay. Here's MSNBC taking apart FOX. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAe9zk2AxSY&NR -
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14044391/ Could be some big changes in the fall elections. How do other people feel? Pessimistic? Optimistic?

Interesting. But it could also mean that the U.N. location was still deliberately targetted because Hezzbollah was around it. One thing is certain, the Irish are pissed.

Mmm, Polish girls in school uniforms. Was that the desired outcome of the uniforms idea?

Supreme Court to Decide Metis Claim
jdobbin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You are probably correct about compensation. I think what is unsettling is that no one knows what will happen. -
Ah, kind of like the refreshing lynch mob that abducted a native youth in B.C. for a murder in Washington state for something he didn't do. I like when no one asks any questions first. I wonder how they would have felt if a firefighter died fighting the fire.

How old are you anyway? This is pretty childish and I don't mean just your writing.

Supreme Court to Decide Metis Claim
jdobbin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's a complcated thing that the Supreme Court will deal with. However, the courts might be bound by contract to honor the agreement. I just don't know how it will be done. Through money or land? I don't know if anyone knows how this will play out although Metis have said it wouldn't mean eviction of the present residents. -
Is Canada Branding itself as a Gay country?

All those handbags and hair bleaching must add up? They said there's a large population of gays in Calgary now. So next time a roughneck saddles up to you are the bar and asks you to "Brokeback Mountain," be sure to ask who's buying the popcorn. In all seriousness though, the theory is that many gays have higher incomes and more discretionary spending at their disposal. Statscan has shown some evidence that this might be true but numbers might not really be conclusive till after this next census results are pored over. Calgary has strongly benefitted from businesses not related to the oil industry in the last decade. If Calgary is to be economically successful after the oil industry, it would do well to have a tolerant society. I can't think of too many intolerant ones that succeed after the resources run out. -
I agree that we are likely to be a terrorist target but it might not be Islamic extremists. I think we could see increasing numbers of eco-terrorists, disaffected anti-globalization terorists and some nationalist attacks against other countries in Canada such as an embassy attack. It remains to be seen whether we can intercept these people consistently. One of the poorer arrest records has been for eco-terrorists.

A large gay population has not hurt Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver from being properous. And which countries are likely to give us looks? Just being Canadian will set off some "gaydar?" <heh> -
Harper flubs the Israeli/Lebanon crisis.

Which Liberals have been speaking against Harper personally? I haven't heard too many of them through this except to express their own opinion for the most part. -

Here's my question: If Canada bought Su-30s, would Montreal still have won the maintenance contract over Winnipeg? I just have to know. -

Richard Florida has said a high gay population in a city usually signfies an economic lift for the whole metropolitan area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Florida Maybe the looks we'll be getting is how did we get so rich? -
http://cjob.com/news/index.aspx?src=loc&mc=local&rem=43790 The Metis are likely to have a decision from the Supreme Court on land claims in Manitoba. It could be the first time that an entire city is awarded in a land claim in Canada.

Chuck Norris. You're right. Pink Power Ranger would probably just date Incredible Hulk.

This is fun! Who'd you think would win this battle: Pink Power Ranger versus Incredible Hulk?
