Doesn't that translate into things are more important than people? Could this be why we are trained to believe that the government acts in our best interests?

Ask how hurtful a broken promise is to a child.

Why don't you move there. Argue for peace from there. Pick a spot to live in Israel, and agitate for peaceful solutions while you fear to go to the market. Unless you are willing to go there and do that, your points mean nothing to me. Your convictions are your own problem. How many suicide bombing would it take in your neighborhood before you would advocate action now? How many rockets can land in your local school yard before you would decide that since you knew where they came from and the government knew where they came from, why are they still coming from there?

Look what it did to Harper and everybody else. You are right.

The entire rant between the left and the right is foolish. Partisanship is the lifeblood of politics in Canada. It is the bane of our existence and a fundamentally flawed foundation at that.

We have spares in Barrhead! Lots of docs. -
The French are that way. Passion in politics is indeed what we need, yet it does need to be tempered with a dose of reality, which is not something the French do.

BY all means start one up. Nothing in contravention of any statute to prevent it. -
................and capitalism is all about looking after the poor.

Insurance company's are a very nice little legal scam. With the recession these folks got hurt in their investments, which is what they use to pay out money to clients. So it is easy to figure they seek rate increases, just to maintain their investment portfolios. What we need to keep in mind here is that government insurance schemes require lower funding because they lack the for profit motive. That nice little profit is what all private ventures both seek and require in order to operate.

Madmax has hit the nail on the head here. There is nothing wrong with nor anything to prevent private for profit clinics being setup in Canada. Lets just keep our eye on the ball and not allow public funding to flow into these clinics. If they are private, then let them operate on a private basis. -
I am growing tired of hearing the word "stimulus". This action is nothing more than the transfer of public wealth acquired through taxation being applied directly into the hands of private interests. It creates debt and deficit and causes a balancing act that usually results in the increase of taxation levels to citizens. The entire key to the issue is spending, reduce spending and you reduce debt and deficit. It ain't rocket science folks.

The Senate is a problem for Harper. He has said many things about it, and to not maintain that track will be detrimental in political terms.

Free trade is not a bad thing, it is a good thing. Too bad we don't have a free trade agreement. Just calling it "free" doesn't make it real.

What plan for the upcoming inflation?
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Machjo's topic in Business and Economy
The business cycle is the boom and bust cycle we are talking about. Strangely enough, central banks set interest rates and control money supply by doing it. At least they try to control it that way by making it more expensive to borrow and slow down the borrowing or making it cheaper and speed up borrowing. The constant in that equation is borrowing. That borrowing is done with a little interest rate side dish. The problem with the entire concept is the fiat currencies we use. Those currencies themselves have become commodities to be bought and sold. -
That makes two of us.......

That describes me to a tee! That said, I think you and Smallc have a valid point. It may well be that most people are so well taken care of that they have become apathetic. Yet that does not mean there are no problems at all.

Insurance is a very legal ponzy scheme. Government insurance for auto's is in fact a much better deal for the consumer.

I agree, tear up NAFTA.
