  1. I don't think that had much to do with it actually. Nor do I think that is a good solution for them. The problem was the man, and now he is gone.
  2. Another government program! Please no, not this one and not another one! I can only hope that someday we will have enough brains to elect a group of representatives that will tackle and bring down the house of cards that is the bureaucracy of public service. That thing is a millstone around the necks of citizens, and one of the key causes of high taxes to fuel a revenue stream for government. These programs need to be taken apart one by one and reformed into a comprehensive system more able to remain flexible enough to withstand the test of time. You can call it cradle to grave benefits if you want, but there is a need to reform the public service sector and a need to reform the services provided to the public. I do not advocate cutting all programs and services, nor do I advocate creating more programs and services. What I do suggest is that we begin to understand the true costs and responsibilities of being part of an enlightened society. We need to define that which we desire that government provide and the manner in which it does so. How else can we do a cost benefit equation to determine a correct path?
  3. It was rather shocking wasn't it!
  4. Come on folks open your eyes! We are being lead into the new world order of corporatism. Business being funded at public expense, that is the direction we are heading. Governments being control by corporations through economic ties and political and financial influence. That is where we are going. Feeding this animal with public funds is simply the wrong way to go.
  5. The responsibility for those loans lays with the lender. That they made these high risk loans was their responsibility. Unfortunately the government now believe it is our responsibility to cover the losses. Like the car manufacturers, the need to go belly up. If there product or service is NFG, why make the taxpayer fund it?
  6. Do you favour the death penalty?
  7. Hamas is a terrorist organization, don't negotiate with them just eliminate them.
  8. I thought that perhaps you were a part of the effort.
  9. Gazans, nice name for an extinct group of terrorists.
  10. Christian Heritage Party stands not even a snowballs chance in hell ever getting an elected representative in the House of Commons.
  11. It does show a trend of rising support for a party with a new leader that has yet to make serious effort.
  12. To this day we still don't make aircraft for our military. We have made them on license, but the Arrow was ours. The productive effort was ours, the achievements were ours. The rewards could have been ours, but it simply didn't happen. The Conservatives killed the project and we now buy planes from the US with every dollar of that purchase headed south. No jobs, no tax revenues, just another expenditure. It was politics that killed that plane, and we are all the poorer for it.
  13. I can only hope that the exposure was mainly to US corporate efforts, not Canadian ones. If not then I can see a bank bailout coming north to a country near you.
  14. Sure protests have worked for other causes. This one however has been fought with the wrong tools. The hard core zealots are making splashy efforts, yet to date they have failed because of the issue.
  15. The fact is we are at war, our soldiers are dying. We need to fight to win, whatever it takes to help reduce the risk to our soldiers in the hope that they can come home alive and well. It is a moral crime to send them off with minimum mandates and questionable support. Yes our government makes this call, and right or wrong our soldiers are at risk. Its not that complicated. until you let the politicians get ahold of the problem!
  16. Of all the extremist special interest groups the Christians are the tamest and most civilized. They are harmless for the most part, the radical ones are not really Christians at all. Are they all dingbats? Not hardly, but they are a special interest group and they are very powerful, and that is not such a bad thing. Its not bad, because they only want what they believe is in all our best interests, but they are intolerant. I certainly don't want the religious to take over the nation, but we could do a lot worse than them.
  17. It might be, it also might be where Fortress North America comes in.
  18. Terrorists need to be exterminated.
  19. What happens when the US just can't seem to sell those T-Bills anymore? That is how they fund their deficits, so what happens next?
  20. Harper did get income splitting for pensioners, I agree that it would be a great start to make it apply to everyone. I would suggest tax deductible mortgages as well, and after we end up buying out one of the big three auto manufacturers making a car purchase tax deductible as well. Sort of like leveling the playing field and making personal taxes as deductible as business taxes.
  21. Maybe it isn't a curtain, but instead a closet door...
  22. Yes I deny it. You mistake Christ using Peter as the rock of his church with the council in Jerusalem starting what would become the Catholic Church some 16 years later. How many Churches did Christ himself create? The answer is none, he spoke in open air and preached where he was needed. I highly doubt that he would have approved of the "Mother Church". His whole focus was about a personal relationship with God, and all the responsibility and accountability that went with this difficult choice to walk a path similiar to his own. No I am not, I am suggesting that Luther was right and the church was wrong. Selling salvation was what sent him on his quest to reform the church in the first place. He did not believe that what the church was doing was right. To that end neither do I. A Catholic priest has no authority to grant me forgiveness by such a simple act as prayers or repentance. God can forgive, Christ can forgive, but I certainly don't think that priests are empowered by God to do it for them.
