Khadr - Court rules he must be Repatriated
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Jesus himself was a martyr. They exist, whether we believe in them on not is the entire point. It depends on what side of the fence you sit on. I remember watching CNN once were they had some "Arab" feed, which one I don't recall, that showed a fund raiser telethon type of thing in Saudi Arabia. They had people pledging money for the families of suicide bombers. While I was outraged there was of course little I or anyone else could do about it. I agree we do need hero's, we need role models. They need not always be military folks. I would like to see this nation follow the lead of the Americans to a certain degree. -
You make a stand, you have to expect to take some hits. Rae is not the Government of Canada, merely a critic. They can get away with this because the Government of Canada will not go to bat for him.

The Harper legacy: Politics is war

The attacks would be fine if they were issued based, they are not though. These folks are trying to make this stuff personal, that is in my view a degrading means of conducting political operations. -
Defence Department under fire

I have been lead to believe that the software issues for the flight computer were resolved. It was actually Canadair http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadair_CL-84 that invented the damned thing, but they had major issues and dropped the project. -
Examples, well how about how she has handled herself in question period with respect to questions placed surrounding the current problems? What about what she has said to other ministers to their face and what she has been caught saying on tape? Dismissing liars from government, you think that is a bad thing Argus? You would see these scum protected and then pensioned off? Chretien was re-elected, then again so was Mulroney, both were liars and both lost the respect of the public.

Pretty much. You see partisans are blind to their own flaws. -

So has every other government since confederation, your point? -
There is a very large game being played out within the party. They are preparing for a fight, and Harper is letting these people do what they want to do as he decides which way he goes from here. Iggy has changed the game, Steve is working on his options.

Defence Department under fire

If it were up to me, lucky for Canadians it is not, this nation would build V-22's under license and design and construct a small fleet of mini-carriers to house them. These things would be freaking ideal for us in terms of both search and rescue and coastal defense. -
She is both a liar and a fool in my opinion. She should be dismissed out of hand.

Give the natives a dozen or so! When that is done, give them self government and be done with this issue once and for all. Settle the land claims, hand over the titles if they have to, or more to the point let them do what the government has done and let them collect the taxes and supply the services as the government does, but SOLVE the damed problem NOW! -
Evidence to what?

You are linking individual taxes and national production, that doesn't work. According to you we should be taxed more when the economy is good and taxed less when the economy is bad. So I should be paying less taxes this year than last. You do realize that there are three distinct levels of taxation and each are constitutionally able to levy these damned things anyway they want. Keeping in mind how much is taken in from the "sin" taxes, and lotteries, they are all variable with the exception of property taxes which are the purview of municipalities. You are assuming that the citizens are sharing in the productive gains or increased profits realized through productive efforts when you say "Because if we are paying less tax as a percentage of our production, we can better afford the tax." GDP is not a calculation of individual or corporate income by any stretch of the imagination, it is simply a defined value of the cost of all goods and services produced within a nation. There is no measure of profit involved in that calculation at all.

If we need more prisons, then so be it. Are you suggesting that since the prisons are full we simply stop prosecuting those who break the law? Or maybe we should change the laws so they won't be broken and then we can avoid putting people in jail. What is your point here? -
It is not simple at all. The relationship between GDP and taxation that you submit exists, links citizens to revenues in a manner that simply does not compute. GDP is the value of goods and services produced whereas the level of taxation produces a government revenue stream. How do you join these two things together and suggest that a rise of one proves a decline in the other?

International bridge shut down
Jerry J. Fortin replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This one or any other. Look you cannot win against First Nations, you give an inch and they will decline the offer and seek a mile. Give them self government and be done with it. Let them tax and spend as they like, but lets not use our dollars to do it. -
These people live in glass houses. They don't seem to understand that as the representative of the people they are subject to intense scrutiny.
-
Apples and oranges! The GDP going up or down has nothing to do with the rates of taxation. It is a statistical approach that can be made to say anything you want. That is a rather shallow view of things, you need to examine the whole thing!
