Tories move to eliminate faint-hope clause
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Discretion should only go so far. The law should be applied equally, discretion works against that to at least some degree. Violent offenders are a special case and should be treated as such. Setup a new court system just to handle them if you like. Go a step further and build some new facilities for them. This is one expenditure worth every penny. The punishment of convicted criminals and the protection of citizens must not come to be viewed as anything less than a just society. We need to set a standard that says some things are wrong and punishable with harsh consequences. -
The numbers are just a pipe dream until the election is over.

There are a whole bunch of citizens that just work for a living. I have no idea what the split is but I would say there is likely not more than one in every twenty that has the "got what it takes" to own and operate a business. Most citizens don't or can't run their own shop. That is what I am really saying. It is that "most" that I am talking about. Those citizens simply don't have access to the system.

The Conservatives have tabled bad budgets, incurred much debt and have been off the mark by billions in deficit calculations. They have accomplished very little this session, and are now under the probation gun. I would say Harper will lose control of the House of Commons at a minimum, and may have to suffer a Liberal majority at a maximum. He will retire after this loss.
-
Good for you! We need citizens out pounding on doors and putting up signs. I will be looking for an independent candidate as usual, but I will vote for which ever candidate I am most comfortable, with also as usual.
-
I don't see that as very feasible. However legislation that makes special interests tabu for the government could do well in debate I think.
-
You would prefer Conservative representation then vote that way. I think coalition style campaign would make a great deal of sense, and possibly provide a way to form a majority.
-
Its the smart move to bring the ND's into a coalition government. Then again it would be a smart move to bring the BLOC into a scenario within Quebec, but I think Iggy will want MP's of a Liberal stripe there.
-
The bailout was a bad idea, perhaps even worth mentioning during an election .............
-
How do you get that?
-
You mean the options are there for folks with access to them right.........
-
Which is why we need legislation that would serve to eliminate access to special interest groups for any member of the government. Let them talk to the opposition groups to find their support, not the government itself.
-
Oh I write them, but we just don't see eye to eye, at all.
-
One side always blames the other. The guy in power is always at at risk of being blamed for everything under the sun, whether he/she did it or not and they always blame the folks that were there before them. Childish it may be, but that is the way those clowns operate.
-
The deal here is that there will be a lack of confidence in Harpers ability to lead in the House of Commons. He will be forced to call an election, whether it is this summer or next fall, or next spring will be up to a majority of the members of the House of Commons.

I have written dozens of letters to politicians. I have had King Ralph respond on real fancy letterhead three times, my current Premier I have not had cause to write to, my MLA's and MP's are all Conservatives, so we are on opposite sides of the street so to speak. I have had literally dozens of letters published in the Edmonton Sun and the Edmonton Journal over the years. So there!!!!

Stephen Harper Tilting at Windmills
Jerry J. Fortin replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
OH my, wonderful news for Alberta! At the expense of the rest of the nation I am afraid, and that truly sucks wind. -
The longer Harper remains in power the more damage he does. On the other hand Iggy isn't going to be to gentle on the checkbook either. Expect even more spending, but this time on social programs. We are going to get about as much debt out of him as we do out of Harper, si I figure you can double the deficit and debt over the next few years. I just want Iggy because it will really upset western Canada and Albertans in particular! Not really, hah hah, but it sounds good!

It seems that Iggy will not make the decision until Monday.........http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/06/12/...vote090612.html

Canadian soldiers cleared of alleged Taliban abuse
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He never really controlled the entire nation. It was his most difficult campaign. -
I would venture to say that Iggy will pull the plug, he will announce that later today. I would go a step further and suggest that the smart thing to do is blow the dust off of the Coalition Concept and implement a multi-front attack on the Conservative Party of Canada. The way to blow them out of the water is to dodge the partisan bullet by not running against each other, just against Harper. To do this much will have to be worked out, based on the last election stats. Whoever got the most percentage of votes other than the Conservative candidate should be the candidate in the next election. If Iggy wants to win, thats how he can get his majority and erase the Conservatives in all but western Canada. Even there you could reasonably expect to gain numerous seats. The vote splitting always has been a killer, and this would be a way around it.

Good choice. I must agree with you.

So far nobody has ever held onto that nation besides the Afganies. -

Honour is a word that few outside of the service can understand. -
Okay, you are marked for life.
