Yes, sorry I misunderstood your post, you are right. It wasn't until I heard it and saw it that I thought much about it at all.

Those changes were needed to keep the CPP viable. But what is it that this current government wants to do?
-
Nice shot! I like it, because it seems like a reasonable response. Look Argus I waded into this foray a little late because I was trying to research some of the stuff being said. When I did step into the forum I did so with little steps until I watched "Poor Little Lisa's" public response. At that point I was miffed at her amateur theatrics, and the lack of any questions from the media. I would get on the ball, and off of the dime. I would ask the Prime Minister to give me some time to formulate a feasible solution to the problem. To do that I would contact Provincial Health Ministers and ask them to talk to the people in the field in their own provinces and ask them to transition to positron emission tomography (PET) scans. PET scans use isotopes that can be created in hospital-run cyclotrons but have a shorter life than reactor-produced isotopes. In addition I would look at converting the particle accelerator in Saskatchewan to fire photons at a relatively stable uranium isotope, uranium 238. The isotopes may derived through that process. That province has an abundance of raw material to work with. Pardon me your highness but I choose to disagree once again with your sanctimonious assertion. If everybody knew about it there would not have been the public relations nightmare the government is dealing with now. Granted the problem has been mitigated to some degree with the Ministers comments, but the problem exists nonetheless. Of course it is a natural response, I indicated already that it was not even a novel approach! Its like this, or its like that simply doesn't cut the mustard dude. The fact is that politicians of all stripes make the same damned mistakes time and time again and that does not justify their action one little bit. The worst offenders are the blind partisan followers like yourself who seem to be incapable of understanding the most simple reality of all, and that is the blame game is just that, a game. You need to start rethinking your own approach to problem resolution. Pointing fingers just doesn't get anything done. I can see you want to play spin doctor plainly enough. That shallow sense of the word you are talking about is exactly what the Minister started with months ago, you can believe that or not, but listen to the tape or read the transcripts first. The science problem isn't a problem at all unless of course you are married to some technological aspect with vested interest. Like the Conservative Government and their desire to sell off portions of the Canadian publics ownership of AECL. That would likely be of far less value to the government if the system was determined to be both flawed and unusable, which is really the case here isn't it. There are wheels within wheels here Argus, this is a big boys game. Far more than what meets the eye is at play here. cbc news This was dated Jan 29/2009, it is true. Something can be done. The statement was self evident, it was the manner in which the situation was handled. Raitt should have been fired by Harper. He should then have replaced her and made public the solution I just gave you. You are right about one thing, I don't know what the Tories have done. Nobody else does either. Probably because they haven't done anything. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, its probably a duck.

I think Iggy is a lot smarter than I thought. Harper is in real trouble.

Wait for it..........other auto manufacturers can step up to the plate and claim a WTO infraction for government subsidization!

Nope, not a chance! Hey this will likely go over real well with citizens, just the thought of some political jerk messing around with their pensions. Great move Steve!

The Harper legacy: Politics is war
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, one way or another Harper is losing support, and one way or another Iggy is gaining support. How and why are unknown to me, as well as most citizens. In any case I will venture to say that Harper WILL lose a few seats in the west, how many will depend on when the election is called and for what reason. -
How so????

I agree, but don't expect that Stevie the Wonder politician will go quietly.

Tories move to eliminate faint-hope clause
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I will agree to that. I am a westerner, and most of us don't look to the government to do stuff. We do for ourselves and we do for each other. That is the whole ball of wax with respect to a conservative position in western Canada. From a western perspective then, the less the government does, the less it costs. When the government does do something it is usually too little and too late or simply just wrong from the get go. Add to that the feeling that elections are over before we get to vote and you can begin to understand why why don't want them any deeper in our pockets then we have to. -
Not yet, five more years. I will enter the field but not until I retire from the railroad.

He is toast, sooner rather than later.

I think things may become wide open very soon..........

Tory financial support is starting to show signs of collapse. That translates well into any campaign strategy I would say.

Tories move to eliminate faint-hope clause
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How is it part of the problem? Don't you have the cart in front of the horse? Why is another citizens right to security a problem? Why does the convicted felon have the ability to override the rights of that citizen next door? The solution is clear and simple. Don't let the criminals out on the street! Keep in mind we are talking about violent offenders here, not some pot smoking hippie type. The real problem is the liberalized concepts of social justice and the impact to society caused by this flawed ideology. -
It seems that Raitt is now being focused on for yet another issue! She claims Prentice diverted money for wind power to the oil sands, at least that is what the news says...http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2009/06/11/...nd-leak011.html

I admit that. I just think that it is wrong. Would you like a child molester next door to you? -
Argus did you take a dimwit pill this morning? I have said before and will say again that there is blame enough for everybody, and go ahead feel free to blame whomsoever you wish. You wish to blame the Liberals, okay it IS their fault. So now what? How do you hold them accountable and responsible and get them to fix the problem? Look Argus, there is a problem and something needs to be done about it. The government knew about it ahead of time, told nobody and did nothing. The thing finally blows up in the governments face and what happens? The government blames the previous government, not even a novel approach. All of these windbags be they Conservative or Liberal do the same thing. Get over it. Here is the rub, the problem has now become a political one. How will the Conservatives since they are the government of the day going to fix this problem? How does this translate with the problems associated with yet another Minister of the Crown running off at the mouth? Considering the current economic environment can the government really do anything at all about the problem? Now I am sure in your mind that the government has done no wrong. Hey guess what, they didn't break the reactor! They are innocent of the cause of the problem, yet they are responsible for providing a solution to the problem. You can say what you want, spin forward and backward but at the end of the day this is a problem of no small importance that must be dealt with. The Conservatives have so far managed to make it worse in the way they have handled it so for. I imagine they can make it worse since we have now decided to deal with the thing in a political manner. You go ahead and blame the Liberals Argus if it makes you feel better. Just realize that the rest of the nation is aware of who is responsible for the actions of the government and they know that it is not the Liberals.
-
Argus are you logically challenged? The problem did in fact occur during her watch. The comments she is under fire for happened months ago, before the current problem. She said that it was only a money problem, not a moral one. So spin the clock forward and rethink this thing. We now know she knew of the problem months ago, yet the government said and did nothing. I never said that the problem was all her fault you goof, I said that it happened on her watch and she is responsible for it. Maple 1 and 2 may be garbage as well, but that isn't the point and has nothing to do with this problem. You know the problem she knew about months ago, made foolish comments about it, and has now been caught up in a scandal for it. Where is the transparency and disclosure that Steve the Super Prime Minister claimed his government was all about. We heard nothing about the problem for months and now its this persons fault or that persons fault but it can hardly be the governments fault now can it. Lets blame everything on the last guy and accept no responsibility for anything at all. All because the problem really happened a long time ago. Your position on this matter is ridiculous.

The Harper legacy: Politics is war
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe Iggy will round up Captain Canada, Little Pierre and a few select others on a campaign trail. What he really needs is more like Bob Rae, people that can deliver cross party votes. That is the way to a majority. Tobin for Atlantic Canada, Trudeau for Quebec, Rae for Ontario, then he needs the west. The west is where he will have trouble, Harper still has much strength there. -
The simple truth is that we are talking about a product that is required for life saving efforts in the medical field. The fact that the Government of Canada was involved in this effort does not speak ill of the endeavor. The cause was worthy, the effort admirable. To simply walk away and leave that huge demand go unsatisfied, possibly causing harm to citizens worldwide is not the responsible act of a government.

This bailout was an expensive mistake in my view. The government shoring up business is nothing less than the transfer of public wealth to private ventures. We would be better off with communism!

Tories move to eliminate faint-hope clause
Jerry J. Fortin replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The point is the tendency of convicted felons to become repeat offenders and that represents a risk to society. That risk is foolish to say the least, and it is the responsibility of the government to protect the citizens from known risks. -
It seems the trend continues then. So be it, Harper goes on life support at 27%. If he falls that low before the end of the session the possibility of an election will increase. I am not sure Iggy wants to go there yet, there may yet be room for further gains. On the other hand the economy may turn and with that he could loose some momentum.

Ignatieff Supports Harper's Crime Bill (C15)
Jerry J. Fortin replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Iggy should get Harper to pull the plug, it would not take much.
