You're right, raising a child until the age of majority is much, much, much more difficult than simply carrying the child through pregnancy to term. You're correct in stating that they should not be compared.

Peeves, at the core of this stupidity is the exact same ideology that underpins the "no zeroes" policy we talked about implemented at some schools in the other threads. It's a ridiculous extension of leftist ideology, in order to remove accountability and responsibility, and therefore eliminate winners and losers.

Justin Trudeau will run for the Liberal Leadership
kraychik replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course you're right, but these are the politics of jealousy and envy that drive the left. It's a never-ending class warfare struggle for them, they follow in the footsteps of their ideological father. -
Isn't it clear to you, yet? Michael Hardner doesn't want to talk about this. It's too unpleasant, and he can't answer core questions. So instead, he wants to suggest that we're wasting our time talking about this on MLW when we should be demonstrating on Palriament Hill and contacting our MPs. He doesn't want to be forced to defend his indefensible non-position.

The truth is you're afraid of this subject matter, that's why you engage in hysterics when your ridiculous positions are challenged. You're more committed to your ideology and false narratives than you are to honesty. It leaks out of every post of yours. I suppose you're still confounded over me accurately labelling you as a leftist, because in the mirror you sincerely see a pragmatist.

We have plenty of ideas, but you don't even recognise a problem in the first place. It doesn't bother you that we import anti-democratic third-worlders and others en masse to destroy our culture (which you would struggle to define) and economy (which you don't even understand). Moreover, if we even get started in a serious conversation (which you've demonstrated you're incapable of having), you need to slander your detractors as being unjustifiably bigoted against Muslims. It's desperate character assassination because you're unable of talking on substance. Yeah, we're just a bunch of hate-filled rural dumb hicks!
-
Ah, of course, accusations that I want to "denigrate Muslims". The last refuge of the left, which is ironically also your FIRST resort. Why? Because you refuse to acknowledge that culture and values not only different, but they MATTER. Especially when it comes to contemporary immigration and "multiculturalism" policies.

Romney’s voters are not moochers or victims
kraychik replied to Bitsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's not even that the government can't stimulate the economy through borrowing and spending, but the government actually destroys wealth by doing this. Essentially, it spreads poverty by engaging in these "stimulus" spending programs. These distortions you talk about wreak havoc on the economy. -

Also, the majority of these reductions in state and municipal government jobs has occurred in Republican states and cities. But hey, let's give Obama credit (or blame?) for it. -
Romney’s voters are not moochers or victims
kraychik replied to Bitsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
This is very misleading statement. First of all, Obama only has some control over one level of government - federal. And guess what? The federal workforce has significantly expanded during Obama's tenure. Obama doesn't control state or municipal levels of government (he can have some impact by trying throwing money at his political allies in other levels of government, but that's about it). So trying to credit Obama with shrinking state or municipal workforces in Republican states and cities is quite rich. I've heard this talking point before, it's parroted around by leftists in order to deceive people like you who don't look beneath the surface. Krugman tried to sell that lie on an MSNBC panel, and was lucky that the discussion didn't go further. Unfortunately, you have dishonest "journalism" like this and this spinning the facts. The first article doesn't take into account government contracts which aren't included in BLS statistics (which I think Politifact is actually misreporting) over federal employment, and the second link has a blatantly dishonest headline and tries to justify it with Obama increasing proportional spending less than his predecessors, rather than looking at absolute dollars. At least this article at the hardly controversial USA Today illustrates Obama's ongoing expansion of the federal government, which is really all he can credited with. -
TimG's another one of those leftists that literally doesn't understand the difference between humanity and all other life on the planet.

We're not the ones so obsessed with suicidal "political correctness" that we refuse to acknowledge correlations between those who come from certain backgrounds and a significantly lower likelihood of successful integration into our society. We're not the ones who refuse to exist that culture matters, and that values need to be taken into consideration when determining who to allow into Canada. We're not the ones who believe, against all evidence to the contrary, that immigration over the past couple of decades to Canada has been an economic boon.

People engage in "massively insulting" speech and expression all the time. It's the nature of the most basic freedom in a free society. Who cares if people find the video "massively insulting"? Yet only one group engages in riots and terrorism when they're directed by their religious authorities to do so. What a surprise, another socialist who expresses contempt for freedom of speech and expression.

"Women's rights" is a nonsensical leftist term in contemporary discourse. The entire "Status of Women" department should be scrapped. There should be no "group rights" in Canada which treat certain people differently than other based on things such as gender. As for the abortion issue, it is broader than just protecting the right of a woman to privacy and security of her person. I understand that that those who support access to abortion on demand view the woman's right to privacy and security of her person as trumping the right to life of the unborn child (which they don't recognise), but at least recognise that reasonable people can disagree on this issue.

Look, I'm not gonna go back and forth on this. I recognise the philosophical basis of the question, but an answer provided by anyone, whatever it is, will likely include scientifically measurable criteria. Lastly, human lives are not only different from all other species philosophically, but also biologically. I would've assumed that to be obviously true. Not to you, apparently.

Smallc and some others are correct. There is no purely scientific answer to the question of when life begins. Further, the intent of this motion is clearly political, to revisit the political issue of abortion in Canada, which perhaps needs to be revisited if current laws are outside of the consent of Canadians, while being in line with constitutional protections.
