I really like what the BC teachers union is doing here promoting social justice. we need to be concerned about this pipeline and the damage it will do to the fragile environment. kids need to learn these things and need to hear them often. Jib, fundamentals like the old fashioned "Three R's" are not important anymore. The three r's are a 1960s thing. that's why many on this forum don't understand 21st century education's pursuit to equip learners with 21st century skills.

Actually, your post is very accurate. High School graduation rates are a very KEY statistic these days. Whether they are graduating by taking hard courses, or just being pushed through, there is no difference on the high school diploma. Things have been dumbed down throughout much of Canada, no question. Most people are too stupid to realize it because they like hearing their kids are doing well, and with less rigorous education, there is more time for "other" things.

Very true. But you are wrong about the Iphones. Innovative teachers now allow them to be used as tools in the classroom. It keeps the learners happy and Iphones help in the learning process

A learner who does nothing doesn't advance. A learner who passes 5 out of 10 assignments and demonstrates learning, but doesn't do the other 5 assignments will move on under this policy. Because teachers don't know what caused that learner to miss those assignments.

What if a learner never does an assignment? Should they just get an incomplete that will have no effect on his final grade?
