Idle No More movement faces internal struggles
Canuckistani replied to Sleipnir's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who's stopping her? It's a free country. I'm all for protests of any sort - doesn't mean anybody else has to respond if they don't agree. She wants to starve herself to death in her teepee, that's her prerogative, tho it must be tough compared to the nice house she lives in and all the food she usually eats. -
What are you on this forum for if not entertainment?

"Anti-racist" is a codeword for anti-white
Canuckistani replied to WhiteRabbit2.0's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You're not. Nobody is. Might be a good idea tho - so if you have some, write your MP. Or just tell us here. -
Sure it does. You can't both occupy exactly the same space, so each of you will, relativistically speaking see something different. And that assumes that your two brains would see the same thing if you stood in the same space - not so, not by a mile. We see in part what we expect to see, each of our sensory organs function slightly differently, and our brains function very differently.

MMMMM, racial heaven. Race based sovereignty and race based voting. Well lets go for it. Canada is 80% white. We win. Next.

So you demand the govt offer alternatives that you can't come up with? -

I'm saying non-whites are given a pass on crying racism when there may not be. And yes, non-whites are given a pass on racism - very rare you get a charge of hate crime against non-white on white violence for instance, but it's quick to be alleged when colors are reversed. No preference for taller males. Or taller whites vs Asians. Set a min height requirement, that all must meet. Feel free to hire tall enough women and Asians over white males, if height is the only criterion an white males are over represented. But as I said, reducing strength requirements only for women is discriminatory and makes no sense. " We're" not doing more than that. I'm saying set a single standard, then feel free to preferentially hire under represented groups that meet that standard. I think Angus is saying the same thing. Can't speak for anybody else. -
Bravo.

If "we" are so important to the universe, who's more important, you or me? If it's a matter of probabilities, why does the wave function seem to collapse in the same way each time, and for every observer? (These are just questions that occur to me.) But, seems to me, what you are positing doesn't leave any room for humans either - just one all pervading consciousness. Bring in individual humans (and why is it only humans who create the universe) and you're right back at a dualistic universe (observer/observed) and the empiricists start having a point again.

Simpler would be for you to just answer the question. Also, if there's no man, what's the point of the bible, and who would read it? Evolved chimps?

I like that.

As you said, this is Canada. The Natives will never be able to select a proxy - who ever is chosen will have a large group of dissenters saying s/he doesn't speak for them. Same with non-Natives. Who will speak for us? And it would presumably be a government person who would speak for "us". Well, in Canada First Nations get to vote for the government too - so they would get to vote for both proxies. Or would this be a racial thing, where depending on your race you get to vote for one or the other proxy? Who would the Metis get to vote for?

Bit of a dodge tho. I think his question is a fair one. If someone white claimed they were discriminated against because a black police officer dealt with them, they would be laughed out of court and called a racist. Reverse the colors and not so much. Minority groups can be just as insular as majority ones. I agree that having a police force that represents the community is a good thing - as long as standards aren't lowered. And you dodged on that question too, talking about height. The question Argus was posing was is it right to have different height requirements for whites vs Asians, say. If you have one height requirement for all races, then that's fair. But firefighters for instance set different strength requirements for men and women. How is that just? Are women better able to compensate for less strength than a weaker man is? -
Yes. And of course we don't know if this wave function or it's potentiality is real either. The human is at the center of that reality just as much - ie it's the human observer that collapses the wave function. And that idea is fraught - what degree of consciousness is required to collapse the wave function. Actually as I understand it, no consciousness at all, which would mean it can all exist outside our minds. I've run the observer creates reality idea past theoretical physicists and they just laugh at me. But it is an interesting idea. In your mind.

I think Idle No More is a good idea. Just as I thought the Occupy movement was a good idea. Let's hope it doesn't just fizzle out like Occupy. I'm not in agreement with the goals of the Idle No More movement, but just keeping the status quo is not a good idea either. My hope is that INM will wake up the Second Nations people to demand that First Nations be integrated into society with no more special rights. But, if the majority of Canadians decide they want to continue this racist system, just give FN's more money, well that's democracy.

Solipsism - everybody sneers at it, nobody ever refutes it. We can assume gravity exists outside our own mind, but we can't prove it. We can assume pretty well anything, including that there's a guy in the Sky.

DeBeers. 325 million in contracts to Attawaspikat companies. The claim is these companies only made 100,000 profit from that tho.

Do I have it right Betsy that you're arguing that nothing exists without man, but the bible will continue to exist long after man is gone? It gets a bit confusing because you seem to be piggybacking on Manny - it's not working for you. We don't know what exists without "man" because we're not around to observe. In fact each of us doesn't know what exists outside our little consciousness. Maybe this forum doesn't exist outside your own imagination. So if you believe in God, you have no idea of God disappears as soon as your consciousness does, ie She is also a figment of your imagination. The only thing you know is you, and not even that very well. Most of your brain activity is not conscious to you. In fact experiments have shown that before you lift a finger, your unconscious mind has triggered the impulse. So even tho it feels like you're doing it purposely, you're doing it arising from an impulse in your unconscious mind. Maybe God is your unconscious mind. And maybe, as Jung would have it, all our unconscious are connected.

Yes, but Attawapiskat only made 100,000 profit on that 325 million, so they obviously got cheated by the white man somewhere along the way.
-
You're not seriously proposing the govt can make reserves like attawaspikat economically viable, are you? That would just be another form of welfare, as non-profitable businesses are subsidized by the govt. As you say, the people who live on economically unviable reservations need to leave those reservations and go where the work is. We can't bring the work to them. And yes, hunter gatherers had to roam over large areas of land for subsistence The land could not support large numbers of people for that sort of life style. If the Indigenous People's really want to go back to the hunter gatherer lifestyle, maybe we could close off an area for them to live that life on. It would not have to be a very large area, since few would take up the offer. And no sneaking off that res for a McDonalds.

And the people receiving the imagery understand it. It's why Jesus used parables, which were accessible to people on different levels. People who confuse this imagery as scientific evidence don't get it. You may see deep meaning in the flood myth. Good for you. Betsy just sees evidence of the historicity of the bible, when another person would see the opposite. Yes there was a flood, no it didn't cover anything like the whole world, as the bible claims. Science tells us so. So does that make the bible historically accurate or false?

I've read some of those figures from other sources as well. Can you show they are false?
