I noticed the flood control is still in effect. Were there problems with it being removed?

Canada's First Chinese Canadian Political Party
gc1765 replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"But he later said the NAP wasn't a Chinese Canadian party and he intended to recruit immigrants from all ethnic groups. "However, first we have to do a good job to show people that they should join us." When asked how the party could attract non-Chinese members if its website was all in Chinese, Chen said the English version was in the making." How is this a Chinese-only party? -

Should a political party be treated the same way as a business? I'm just curious, because you have said that businesses should be able to choose who they do business with and be allowed to discriminate based on race. Shouldn't that also mean that a political party has the right to choose who is allowed to join their party? -

Your link doesn't work. -
Excellent post. I knew you had a liberal side after all

Iran Caught Red-Handed Shipping Arms to Taliban

I'd say the "left-wing" view should be to not support killing by either side. IOW, you want to restrict abortions to the first 3-4 months, as I said. How about exactly the same way as its done with heterosexual marriages? Nothing. What's your point? Bush isn't left-wing either, but I don't think we should invade the U.S....(and they are the ones WITH the weapons of mass destruction) Who did you vote for in the last presidential election? And if I remember correctly, didn't you also vote for Reagan and Bush Sr.? Which political party do you support in Canada? -
I find this quite ironic, considering this from the same poster: The polls hardly show an implosion. And get his name right.

Next leader of the Liberals, and when?
gc1765 replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Kennedy. When? If Dion loses the next election. -
For. What reason is there to be against it?

Some of the pro-lifers even want to ban abortions as a result of rape. Anyways, mistakes happen. Birth control is not 100%. Or do you want us all to remain virgins until we have a steady job...which, for most people, happens at about 30?

Harper's plan to court the immigrant vote
gc1765 replied to normanchateau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You mean that homosexuals aren't discriminated against anymore? Or that certain races aren't discriminated against anymore? -
Works too! I bought one a while ago, and I haven't been eaten by a bear yet!

And I suppose your definition of "extreme left-winger" is someone who: - unconditionally supports Israel no matter how many Palestinians/Lebanese they kill - believes in restrictions on abortion - is opposed to same-sex marriage - denies that global warming exists - supports the war in Iraq - believes in aboloshing (or severely decreasing) the minimum wage - supports conservative parties, such as the Republicans or CPC Anything else I'm missing? If that's extremely left-wing, then I guess Jack Layton is extremely, extremely, extremely, extremely, extremely left wing. -
It lowers their tax revenues compared to the average of those 5 I mentioned before. The great the difference, the greater the collection. Oops I meant to say how would provinces get more money if they included their resource revenues. IOW, why would a province choose to have 50% of resource revenues included? The closest answer I could come up with is that under that method, they would have a cap? I think the article mentioned something about Saskatchewan being capped at $200 million, where they would have received $800 million if resources were excluded and no cap?

I'm sure you speak out when other people call Stephane Dion Stephanie or Celine....

That's funny, because in the last poll I saw, more people wanted Dion PM than Harper. I guess as bad as Dion is, Harper is worse.

GHGs stabilized under Dion, Martin and McGuinty
gc1765 replied to hiti's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm glad I'm not the only one who fell for the lies by the right-wing to try to discredit Dion. Apparently BC chick, Michael Ignatieff and some environmental groups also fell for it. I guess I shouldn't feel so bad for being fooled then. -

Well, considering you are right-wing on every issue I've ever seen you argue about, especially the middle east, I'm not surprised that you are not interested in starting a thread. I'm also not surprised that the right-wingers who started and/or contributed to this thread aren't starting a thread about it either. I guess Higgly was right about "my-side-ism". -

Are you purposely ignoring the link from the government website that both I and hiti posted? -

If you guys wanted a better source, you could have tried google: "Since 2003, growth in GHG emissions has been quite minor (about 2 Mt, or only 0.3%). Though there were some large increases in certain areas (notably Transportation and, to a smaller extent, Agriculture) these were offset by a significant decline in Electricty and Heat Generation. In addition, there was an uncharacteristically small emission increase from the fossil fuel industries. * Between 2003 and 2005, despite increasing electricity demand, greenhouse gas emisions from generation decreased by over 6 Mt. due to a reduction in emissions from coal-fired generation and an increase in nuclear and hydro electricity production." Link When did Dion become environment minister again? 2004? And yet he gets blamed for doing nothing? I must admit even I (and, apparently, Ignatieff) got fooled into thinking that Dion was a hypocrite who let emissions skyrocket, but that was just a lie. -

I think this answers most of my questions (finally!): "During the election campaign, the Conservatives promised to take non-renewable resources like oil and gas out of the equalization formula — a change Calvert said would mean an extra $800 million a year for provincial coffers. The March 19 budget did remove oil and gas from the formula, but added a cap on equalization payments. As a result, Saskatchewan is getting $226 million this year and nothing next year." Link
