  1. Another thing of note is that laws are arbitrary. Riverwind should know this in his debating over first nations issues. IMO this argument is going nowhere, I believe life starts at conception, others here do to, others believe it starts at birth. The question is, that since laws are arbitrary, who is to say which side is correct as it is all a matter of opinion?
  2. Perhaps we shouldn't blame the feminists, they haven't called for this. I think this could be another case of the self-guilt culture of the left in Canada. "It's all our fault, so we need to bend to everyone else to be morally o.k.," type attitude. The attitude that is costing taxpayers billions upon billions of dollars.
  3. As much as I support farmers and ag. These guys if they were smart should pull the plug on tobacco farming. It's quickly going under. S. Ontario is nice for corn, grow that it'll be worth a hell of a lot more than tobacco. More ethanol is not a bad thing.
  4. Somebody in the MSM needs to speak up about this, roast the feminists and then get inducted into the order of Canada for bringing common sense back into the country.
  5. I hope you have that mentality when you are in serious trouble and need one!!
  6. What in the blue hell are periods for then? The problem with this issue is that NOBODY is right as it's all a matter of opinion. Trying to prove which side of the argument is correct is like trying to prove that Christianity is superior to Judaism (sp).
  7. Or we could let them sort out their own affairs. They don't respond to foreign diplomacy very well. They can go fly a kite.
  8. Yes and when the biofuel gets in the "oil cycle" it will pay for itself. It will eventually take away barrels of oil used. Not in the first prelim. billions of litres of biofuel mean billions of oil not used. But you are right in that way off the gun straight oil is needed. You can also shut down the rigs, put up a naval blockade, etc. Mind you, the whole world has to get on board. No money going in. I don't know why the US didn't secure a-stan and iraq. It's perplexing, I would have used as much troops as I could in the first place. Maybe they didn't want all their eggs in one basket, or wanted to do it more "efficiently" (which isn't working) Maybe they're saving the troops for something like you suggested.
  9. Oh and the U.S. does have enough ground troops to invade Iran. Only a fraction of their armed forces is committed in Iraq/A-Stan. Using conventional tactics and deploying the remaining armed forces the U.S. would anhialate Iran.
  10. I don't know but they live in deserts. Without our money and food imports they'd be royally screwed. There's lots of places in the world to get oil. Plus biofuel is becoming very promising. You can run a diesel on straight up Canola oil. Canada doesn't need the middle east for anything. Just give them guns and let them kill each other. If China and Russia didn't buy oil from Iran they'd be a third world country too. Any county can be screwed if no money and no imports/exports go to/come from it.
  11. If the soldiers are going to be out fighting trying to change the minds of mindless barbarians (pardon my french) who want to live like that, what's the use. Having a standing army ready to go against a world war II style threat is IMO the way to go. I'd say if Iran is such a problem in everyone's eyes, then cut them off from our money. Naturally China and Russia don't view them as a problem hence why they do business with them. The palestinians are cut off from foreign money and now they are busy fighting each other, i haven't heard of too much violence towards israel at this point. Is this method of attrition cruel? Absolutely. Is it working to some degree? I think so. IMO we shouldn't be doing business with this area if it's going to be this hostile. If they can get their ducks in a row then fine do business with them.
  12. Well it is the people of Hérouxville's town. It is their community and they can do what they see fit to it. We also have the right to say that's not cool. If they are putting up those regulations then let them be damned. There's lots of places in Canada that aren't like this. If they don't want certain people in their community they shouldn't be forced to accept them.
  13. In that case, you right-wingers better get your act together because if we end up giving any of our tax dollars to China and India, we'll hold you responsible for that. In the spirit of this, you are the ones making us honor kyoto, you are the ones responsible. And the mess that the left has given us doesn't leave us much options. We don't have to honor the protocol, what would the punishment be? That's why I support the clean air act, realistic enviro clean up while still helping out the economy and our tax dollars staying here.
  14. Yes, I pretty much agree with this synopsis, of how it will play out. Along with attempting to blow up some nuclear facilities. All they will be doing is ensuring the youth of Iran will turn against the west and stop pushing for democratization. Wasting soldier's lives on trash like that isn't worth it. Just cut them off like the palestinians. That strategy is working too well, they're killing each other.
  15. That's a very good point, and when our tax dollars start going to china and india and other countries to purchase carbon credits so we can meet our kyoto targets, us right wingers will hold you to that.
  16. Your stats are wrong.I pulled the total GDP from the stats can website and used your expedenture numbers: I get the follow trends: 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 1,152,905 1,213,408 1,290,788 1,371,425 1,409,825 461,306 480,915 503,455 525,322 546,903 40.01% 39.63% 39.00% 38.30% 38.79% Canadian gov't spending is clearly declining as a percentage of GDP. It seems to be up a bit in 2006 but I had to estimate the 2006 based on the 2.8% growth rate so we won't know an accurate number for a few more months. Bottom line: there is no evidence that Canadian gov't spending is 'out of control'. Evidence? Gun registry, Department of Indian affairs, the senate, etc. We don't need to be spending that much money in the first place.
  17. If drugs weren't illegal, they wouldn't be viewed as cool. Tell the kids in junior high you sniff glue or gas and they'll laugh at you. That's one way of looking at it. Look at drunk driving though, lots of people don't consider it cool and it's illegal on top of it. Booze is legal and its still cool. IMO if drugs just flat out weren't cool, no problem. Some pot users say crystal meth (illegal) isn't cool so don't use it.
  18. At least skiing is a HEALTHY physical activity. Trying to argue along the lines of not being able to go skiing as a dangerous activity makes as much sense as saying we shouldn't pay healthcare for someone with skin cancer because they chose to go outside. Drugs are illegal because they can seriously screw you up and due to that healthcare and social services gets plugged up. Making a conscious choice to screw taxpayers and the rest of us over due to selfishness like that should be illegal. Skiing is healthy, exercise, and doesn't cause long term psychological and physical problems. I'd say to hell with them too, but I'm going to pay in the long run due to healthcare costs. If drugs weren't viewed as cool we wouldn't be in this mess.
  19. Give them a lot of people dying and the insurance companies will start changing their rules. People can be charged with wrongful death suits. If payouts become common such that profits are eroded, it is in an insurance company's interest to find a perpetrator and take them to court. I would. The travel agent to court maybe. I think it would be harder taking a foreigner to court in a spot like this. I don't think a mexican court would respect the authority of a canadian insurance agency, and i don't think a mexican is going to come up to Canada, there really isn't a lot that can be done about this.
  20. Or that travel agent has a lot of explaining to do
  21. Riiiiiggggghttttttt. Quite the conspiracy theory
  22. One reason is that Inky Mark actually acts like an independent when it serves his riding. I doubt he will vote on the Wheat Board issue though. I wonder if Harper will punish him. Doubt it Harper has bigger fish to fry. Also there would be the possibility that he would jump ship. he has done it before with the Canadian Alliance when he became a PC. For the tories to lose a candidate again might be devestating.
  23. take care of the cows. But cattle aren't very lucrative anymore. Truck grain out of the bins to the elevator. Work on machinery. Winter is pretty slack compared to summer namely late august though, but rest assured we don't go on e.i. or welfare that's just cowardice and hypocritical. Cattle are lots of work all year long, but aren't worth it financially. Some guys go up north and work on the ice roads. One guy opened up a small mechanic business out of his shop, only open in the winter though. Some guys will go out west in the winter. Most of the guys that are hurting are the guys that have the big brand new iron and want the winter off. If you want work bad enough you'll find it. I don't know how those fishermen do it, I'd go nuts. wheat and canola can be stored for a fairly long time. That's also why the price is so low a few years ago. I've heard of guys hanging on for a year or more. With cattle, it spoils so it's more "finite" which before BSE led to higher prices. I was suggesting biofuel as it can take off and revitalize the rural economy. Billions of litres of biofuel means billions of litres of fossil fuels that can be exported. Louis Dreyfus an American company is popping up a big crushing facility very soon. This might seem like a welfare handout but government policy is in fact creating an industry which will be self sufficient in a while. Starting from the basics (rural economy) in my opinion will help out the urban economy by taking guys who are going to school and shouldn't be there and putting them in jobs where they are more suited to. I have a worry about Unions in central Canada, i'm sure those don't help out at all. Just look at what's happening at the big 3 automakers, they're wasting profits on paying off Unions. I'd also say that the gov't has it's spending priorities all mixed up. I would say that they'd be better off setting up profitable crown corporations (if they insist on not cutting corporate tax) instead of throwing money away (indians, day care, quebec, other useless crap). If Ireland is the place to be, if I were Harper I'd be taking notes on how to do things and use our advantages to surpass them.
  24. How about Dauphin-Swan River? That riding will already be voting the same way the Liberals do on the Wheat Board. That riding also handed the tories one of its biggest landslides
  25. That's why I go with #1 high protein wheat, that stuff is for human consumption, they'll take feed wheat and corn for that. More likely corn as it's the most ideal crop for it. Canola oil for diesel fuel is the good one as it is the most ideal feedstock for it. I grow half canola. With the amount of ethanol that north america is wanting to make I wouldn't worry about wood chips and fun stuff like that. It would help more than anything. Two massive crushers going up in Yorkton which will result in 115 jobs. With that kind of competition for acres that can't be a bad thing.
