Caesar I join with Tawasakm to thank you for sharing your information on the laundry. I have visited thousands of business establishments in my employ but never a laundry facility, oh, but I recently visited a jute bag, linen cleaning operation, not the same thing is it. ]caesar Posted on Mar 18 2005, 05:39 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now a days it could be male or female. I have had the opportunity to worked with the PEO & OSPE offices in Toronto and gone down to Ottawa to address the very issue of the lack of female representation in the engineering field. Perhaps a female might see the benefit of making a machine to save the female dollars at the laundry facilities. Until then I might as well support some regulation to monitor the price system.

theloniusfleabag Posted on Mar 19 2005, 10:49 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- You seem to want to fight fire with fire, trying to beat aggressive dominance with even greater aggressive dominance. That will never work, escalation's logical conclusion is annihilation. I look at elements that would expand women and (oops!! androgenize men making them more male). Seriously now, I have seen and have an experience that the more achivement-oriented females had more avenues open for them to be active, participate, realise aims and be more accomplished. These females knew and espoused the rhetoric of feminism that they had rights and expectation within society. Furthermore, women have expanded into the men sphere and nowadays more readily pursue autonomy, their achievement and initiative so domination could not be too far off in my mind. What I want to point out though men crossing into the sphere of feminine areas is not quite acceptable and of course negatively viewed, mostly they are sanctioned.

There is something called male privilege. The mere fact that a male is born, he is already placed into an advantageous position in society. It is difficult for men to acknowledge their position because then they would have to submit to giving up some of those unearned privileges. My assessment of women's issues is usually shape by the discrepancies and controversies that I have observed. And I have observed that male privileges negates the needs and rights of others such as women So you can't really conclude ... that the sexes should begin at the same starting point to pursue their own interest. To start off there is unfairness, there is the usual inequitable opportunity, limited rights and now you want to turn around in expectancy and look for fair outcomes. Question yourselves how come men are successful. Oh, and I am fed-up with the conceited line men usually give "I am smart" I am glad you mentioned we are born with potential tools. When I look at say men and war as in Iraq war it all conjures up imagery of maleness and power. Here is the example of maleness and war. It is all about weaponry with major thrusting of missiles with its piercing and explosive sounds. I mean these are all languages women know (that tool word), its mimics of the phallic side of sex. How interesting, a major overgrowth of men. Micheal Hardner seem to think that there needs to be a cultural shift and a rise to some conscious level of the available choices that people should not be influenced or pressured I am more incline to believe that the role of feminism can over power and dominate masculinity serving to neutralise this aggressiveness men seem to be born with. 14$ for males 45$ for females Maybe the men are smarter in their buying habits, well the males excutives usually order custom shirts from the stichers @ $12 per shirt and they order supplies to last at least 6 months. Recently some of the females have joined that group. A comparable ladies shirt would be worth greater than 70$ and ladies suit cost 400$. The ladies wear variety because they are fashionable, it is an expectation, they want to be promotable and receive handsome rewards for dressing the part. The statistics don't paint the picture of divorce or single women with custody of the child being rich. They bearly survive and are mostly poor. But, one of the characteristics of women as was Eve is well just being vindictive and cunning. But, women also pay alimony to men even when they have the child - the law is fair.
-
Michael Hardner How often does this scenario happen, though ? Is this typical ? And even if it does happen, a divorce usually involves a splitting of the assets. Source: Statistics Canada mean age of male marrying year 2000 - 33.5 years year 2001 - 33.6 years year 2002 - 33.6 years Please visit here for Statistics Canada Divorce: year 2002 - 34% year 2003 - 37% most divorces occur within 3 years of marriage separation would be an add on figure - might climb to 50% I didn't check that stats but 60% of the children born to common-law partners saw their parents separate In 2001, 81% of lone-parent families were headed by a woman Now the splitting of the assets - for common law you leave with what you brought into the relationship - and split the time you were together For marriage as males you get ruined - I think it is about this 'till death vow that you make But the women never gets rich off your tiny bits of assets since you saddle them with greater than 3 kids

Caesar I ask, which gender designs the machines to process men clothing?. Isn’t it the men who are serving their own interest? Men have no desire to figure a machine to process women’s clothes in masses for efficiency and for cheap. This not any rocket science, these men want to keep women into the hand washing era perpetuating women in a domestic role, first at the cleaners and then keep them washing at their homes. This laundry concept of hand washing women’s clothing is not about delicate fabrics and buttons but more about a controlled agenda. But I wanted to talk about price discrimination with regards to laundry. Your argument is hinge on the size and fabric. So why don’t they have a price list based on fabric, why is it gender related? I mean why can’t we displaced a difference in gender and scrutinize items as clothes. Let’s say we create some fair structure of charging the same price for materials. How about 5$ will drive all males away, and encourage more women to bring their clothing to the cleaners. But I will tell you why the women’s clothing is costlier at the laundry. Women goes out to buy quality items that is more expensive and it co-relates with a predetermined damage that might be had, hence the higher price - similar to insurance, or benefit costs. In support of your argument that men are the major users of laundry, the price setting is favorable to men. The idea is a matter of demand and supply for price discrimination. Look assuming the men are really hygienic and clean folks they show up at the laundry store 90% of the time with low affordable prices. The genders are price sensitive, put a comparable price to that of a women’s blouse would drive men to wear unlaundered clothes. Which returns us to a stereotype of men – they don’t usually care about their appearance. Women don’t show at the laundry because you set the price higher than they can bargain – but also here is the catch the laundry folks say their profits are increased based of the women showing up. Your 1000:5 ratio is a bit exaggerated I believe. If you work the math I would say that the profits would significantly rely on servicing women customers. In my opinion I think there is much monopolizing power to sustain discrimination of prices between the genders or some other reason besides men’s agenda why women’s clothing is so expensive to clean. Maybe the laundry folks are just indeed rather strange.

That came from "a line must be drawn somewhere" Reg Whitaker, double standard: the secret history of canadian immigration quoting: Late in 1945 the director of Immigration branch wrote a memo to his minister which he outlined the number of refugees from Nazi Germany and Stalin's Russia who would seek entry into Canada so he asked to "read separately the facts in individual cases present and almost unanswerable argument for admission."
-
Then I also suggest it is discriminating to make a press board based on men's shirt sizes, when in fact the majority of the customer base is female, and we know that females are smaller - the females never gets accommodated and they have to pay dearly
-
I mean in all our history classes I was never aware of the 2,800 Finnish Canadians who accepted USSR invitation to work during the depression. I mean they are never mentioned but were caught up in the same net as Soviet citizens who wre crushed during Satalinist purges. I had the opportunity to see the award winning Film Screening of "Letters from Karelia" a National Film Board of Canada production was shown during the Toronto Film Festival. I don't believe they have the rights for home production yet so you can't order, but you can request an interest for public viewing - for history folks

Men nowadays are waiting to secure weath and decidingly are marrying or doing some common law in their thirties. They then acquire some children and gets a divorce when the women are in their forties. Since the emphasis is placed on reproducing wealth among men, women are burden with the helplessness of trying to get rich in a man's world and later handed the children. Remind me how a woman can get rich. ok so I can disclose that I do have a couple of men's shirt that I bought at the men's store - I specifically went looking for these shirts, firstly because it is cheaper, and secondly the collars are different. Did you know the average man's shirt collar is larger than the regular ladies collar, and the collar is tailored with bindings plus it fits nicely with some of my outfits. I always pay a ladies price to dry-clean my men's shirt even when I point out it is a man's shirt - my guess is they usually go by the smell when the female takes in the shirts. Sometimes I ask the male runner to take to the dry cleaning, I am always shock at the savings. Well I naturally draw the conclusion that women are really not plugged into how the system operate with men. This familiar system is perpetuated to a male advantage and is a problem, for example with the buying of insurance, the buying of auto parts, or a new car. I mean I don't think all men are mechanics and know the ins and outs of car. But in order for women not to be ripped off - they have to take painful efforts to learn the mechanics of the car. In fact, women have to spend their valuable to shop around for a better price for hair cuts, clothes, cars, insurance because they know they won't be any equal services close to their homes. Here is what I am thinking that women have to in essence work harder, be paid less, and waste their time on nothingness to receive the same service as men. You are right women can choose to do much, but also the means of their success is dependant on how seductive they are. It is the way they look for growth, for a partner. It is the game they play. Some women have to promote how exotic they are. But, women are not the ones with the aces, sorry to say. I mean women will only defeat themselves in rebelling amongst themselves.
-
This gender pricing is very suspicious of course it is always in the favor of men. I mean men literally save 50% more than women. That is one reason why women are not getting rich. I mean I don't have to repeat for the hair cut, dry cleaning, these men even score with the ladies night at the bar. Women’s clothing are far more expensive than men plus they have to buy more variety. I was in a meeting recently that lasted for several days, and I observed the men as usual showed up with their black suits and white shirts and tie - no surprise. If one of them had whispered secretly that he was wearing the same suit for the three day - I am more inclined to believe this. The women of course must change, different hairdo, different suits, different shoes, oh, the variety. Some retailers noted that the women usually put 1/2 of the bills on a credit card, and pay by cash the other half - this is to explain to their spouses they didn't pay too much. But the 1/2 price example is more like a comparable price to a man's clothing. Long ago I learnt that being a female has its many disadvantages, but we also learn about the evils around us and make sure to send men to the cleaners instead of trying to be too brave

The theme for this year's International Women's Day campaign is: "Gender Equality Beyond 2005: Building a More Secure Future" Thanks to all you gentlemen of Mapleleafweb who will make this possible and to all women I say May we Dream bigger Fly Higher Scale new heights EVERYDAY I wanted to say this as I can't respond to the post now - yep, I have a campaign to attend to

No society should operate without the full participation of females and also encouragemnet to the full potential and advancement of females. Statistics are still showing gender biasness and women as a disadvantage group. So how far have women really gotten?
-
well I don't wish to seemingly be criticising religion. But I also have no fear to play the devil's attorney and being a rejectionist when it relates to women and the bible. Here is what I mean the bible is very patriarchal. Only 2 books of the testaments are attributed to women with about 2 pages alotted to the same out of 700 pages. Shows just how significant women were, and of course the women were associated with evils, baby making and submitting to men. The argument therefore that men are responsible for the actions of women just gets perpetuated since "God will not hold the woman responsible". It was a different time though. Today, I hold women responsible for their own actions, and that they should think independent of men. ok I also wanted to say it is a let down as I do think men can teach women a thing or two. But, I would also like to add this bit that men are terribly spoiled in their ambition and usually fall and are victims to their own conquest. Here is an example of what I mean as the fall gets sorted out in Michelangelo's Genesis The creation of Eve: Adam it showed men with their real penis size. I attributed the sins of women, daughters, who become whores and the wives would commit adultery to the twist of culture of present day. Men wish to clap themselves on the back for increased common sense. Men believe that they can capitalised on the imagination, and capture it even when it runs wild. And how ironic that "wild" shows up in sculptures of nowadays and are giving endless possibilities to the penis. I mean the penis just keeps getting bigger every time one turn around. First, the penis is greatly enhanced to the men demise. Secondly women are thinking that they are getting a raw deal. They share in their real experiences it is a raw deal, hence the swinging. Thirdly, I am indeed sorry to say the men have more penis complexes nowadays to work with than previously. ok my one regret is that women did not take the chance and enrich your lives sooner with this interpretation process
-
Oh darn, maybe I should replace mistresses with bad chicks, b1tches, sluts, wh0res make it sound more modern and color painted scenarios analogous to the swinging The males are slow to change. There are recent studies done by Hopkins which show evidence of traditional standards not dead yet. So there is rejection of double standard I agree. However, a male is still the sexual initiator, very eager for sexual activities but the female sets the limit. To reinforce my argument of passiveness, the actual abstinence from sex when dating is attributed to the restraining woman's influence. There was a study conducted at Florida State University where men were more willing to take a risk. A female could request a date and suggest the man visit her dorm, or even go to bed with her. The men were at ease with such a request and usually asks "why wait until tonight?". OK now when a man ask a female the same question the typical responses to the men "you've got to be kidding me" "what's wrong with you" " leave me alone" I still maintain that men has a desire for control in the bedroom. The want to dominate women and have their women submit to them. I do put in some pro-bono hours at legal aid and have had the opportunity listen to women and their conflicts in marriage, and those who wish for the divorce. My observation, men you worry that you are not male enough and hence feel it necessary to become macho dude. In order for this macho image to be something of a success, women of course have to be submissive, I mean how else. And this conflicts with the men wishing for their partners to be porn stars and eager. But, I agree that more women are being liberal in declaring their needs in the bedroom and you are rather fortunate to hang out with those - but a discrepancy exist and even though there is small changes in the bedroom on the part of women, it is not so dominant and demanding that it has frighten men away. It would be interesting to know how long these sexual encouters usually last and how many folks are just having fun for one night only. I mean we track those divorce rates and they don't look good at all. ok its late and I don't feel like writing more for now
-
Question 1 What do you think caused you to be a macho man? Ok what does "be a man” means?. I wanted to challenge this idea of manliness that we take for granted because in my view these are all nonsensical construction. So I might as well gauge the construction from a woman’s standard. So what is “normal” and what constitutes “deviant” – I did not draw on deviations of homosexuality, or sexual deviation of the female – you can read about that in London’s book What would you say if a male, age 29 says he is still a virgin? I mean would you think something went dreadfully wrong. Because, by golly, this man is not animalistic, preying, hunting, responding. Would you view this person as a proven “man” and earn a title “man”. Now what would you say for the ladies? She is a virgin at age 29. Admiration is what comes to mind. Well macho is synonymous with being overtly male, physically active and sexually driven. One and three mistresses are common. Men are generally assumed to be adulterous, it is not a problem. Recently, women are seeking out their pleasures but the stats are not the same and the scorn are not the same. Overall women of course would be passive and respond to their partners and have sexual relations with only one man while it is ok for men to hunt around. Ok lets say a man deviates from being a man. All he suffers is ridicule by his fellow counterparts in a failure to be a man, that male virgin need to come clean and be a man. If the women deviates they are punished firstly for being scarlet and then for carrying a bastard’s child. Last year the US economy was described as “economic girlie-men”, today they are precise with the description “economic macho men”. I mean why do we have to use the hard penis to symbolise overwhelming power. By the way the girlie is used to represent the softness of the vagina. But the penis emerges as the phallic macho in its ways of penetration and conquering the softness. In regards to the questions 1-4 was to bring out your ideas about what constitutes a man. The other questions was to be more thought provoking for example question (4) "What do women do in bed", since women are passive and followers, the question should be more like "What do men do in bed", and the answer, it is more like they take charge of bedroom activities with their tools. So if you go down the questions from 5 onwards, and replace "men" with "women" and vice-versa it forces a different point of view. It is not meant to attack men but just to challenge beliefs and expose some real truths.
-
ok you replied while I was posting - but some of those questions are weird from a women's viewpoint I am heading out to lunch .. but will reply
-
well if you participate in the questions you can come up with answers all by yourself, plus you probably have information that you can share that might be new to even me so I am waiting .... Plus if was tricky trying to come up with those questions in reverse roles

What "deviance" are men "permitted" that women are not? Sorry, I didn’t ignore your question I just didn’t have the time recently but now I do In the LANGUAGE of SEX I would like to pose a few questionnaires for Males 1) What do you think caused you to be a macho man? 2) Who decides you are a man? 3) Is it possible that being a man is a phase you can grow out of? 4) Is it possible that being a man stems from a neurotic fear of others such as women 5) What do women do in bed 6) Why do women place so much emphasis on SEX 7) Men, are your parents aware that you don’t wear make-up, and red fingernails? 8) Men, do your friends know that your hair don’t have to be stylish 9) Is it impossible for men to indulged in sexy jump suites, tight sleeveless jerseys, tight slacks, dress with gaping armholes, mini skirts 10) Do other men stare at the males when you wear your string sandals, high heels, spike heels, jewelry, bling-bling? … do the women stare? 11) Tell me, are men proud when they have to change their names 12) When man marries can they have the cake and eat it. I mean can you announce you are married by hyphenating your names in tongue tied strings? 13) As a man using the titled Dr. makes you an overachiever 14) Why do men always want to talk about “sissy” stuff like feelings 15) Why is it that real women are always interested in and always wanting more sex 16) Why are real women TOOLS used for performance like: thrust, rams, bangs while men become delirious with ecstasy 17) Why is it that whatever women do it affects every man much more than vice-versa 18) Why do women seek to maintain their old advantages and view small deference such as equality as threats 19) How come men are so irrational 20) Why are women so eager to be in control to dominate and devourer men

RB replied to Fusilli_jerry89's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Fusilli_jerry89 is the masses of high school student population rejecting the 3 year distressing project, can you make a prima facie case for stress - I don't think so. The kids in Toronto also do mandatory volunteer work to graduate high school - I have not noticed they are complaining, in fact they are more than proud of themselves to land in some good company. There is something called dignity and worth of a person. Just because people are on welfare does not mean you should give them an entrance that passes though the garbage room and call it opportunity. -
Value of a Fetus. Time to overturn Roe v. Wade?
RB replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I agree the fathers should have a say, but fathers must show their committment, and also take responsibility in the eventual decision. So, in Canada we have actually advanced some ways to help the fathers become involved in their newborn life for example there is 37 weeks available as parental leave that fathers can claim. So why don't I give you the statistics of how many fathers are having a say and participating in looking after their newborns. In Canada, 2001 only 3% of fathers claim parental benefits. Man, it is better to move to Norway and make some kids with those folks 80% of the fathers take time off. I differ in my opinion, women do not set off to become pregnant to access the health care dollars and Henry Morgantiler's Clinics. I am sorry to let you know that if you do not continue allow freedom of choice, health clinics access, and have health care contingencies in place in this free society on whether to abort, women will find ways for abortion to their own death. You don't want to be lonely men now do you. In other words, having a child or becoming a mother is NOT the only one choice of the many choices available to women. What I mean is being pregnant should not have mandated result. It further demeans women as person, and as a thinking, rational being when you keep giving rights to a fetus - I mean you are giving indistinguishable characteristics and rights to something that is not equal to a person, not defined as a person, but also making it superior, well at least superior than women. I mean why do we always seek to degrade and diminish women? -

RB replied to I miss Reagan's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Well don't feel too shy to go around feeling more American than usual But here is a bit of lame explanation Canadians consider first its own proud constitution, then it turns to other prespectives in the international scene. The reason being we cannot work the Charter in isolation from international norms esp. for specific cases. However other countries law does not become binding in Canada unless it is incorporate into domestic law. But we wish to be informed by international law in looking for evidence of principles of fundamental justice and therefore helping to support interpretation of something specific perhaps not mentioned or covered by the charter. here is an easy read on: Canadian Jurisprudence on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights: Using Canadian Case Law to Advance Charter Litigation and Domestic Implementation of ESC Rights Here is a case law - Canadian Jurisprudence: Applying International Law Domestically Suresh v. Canada (Minister of Citizenship and Immigration) 2002 SCC 1, 18 Imm. L.R. (3d) 1, 208 D.L.R. (4th) 1, 281 N.R. 1, 90 C.R.R. (2d) 1, 2002 CarswellNat 8, [2002] S.C.J. No. 3, 37 Admin. L.R. Roe v. Wade is one of defining decisions for women in history. In Canada our laws are vague enough to be maneuvered. This means that we can look at U.S. jurisprudence, commonwealth jurisprudence, the judges latin dictionaries, Sharia Morgentaler et. al. v. Her Majesty The Queen, the SCC was asked to review Roe v. Wade in regards to the conviction of Morgentaler for performing illegal abortions in violation of the Abortion Act '67 By the way almost 70% of feminist appeals are favorable in court -
Bills Already Passed - can it be changed?
RB replied to Fusilli_jerry89's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
What do you mean the bill has passed? 1) it received royal assent 2) proclamation Private bills cover non-public matters such as: corporate charters. They are very limited in scope and relevance. Now private member bills deal with public importance can be put forward by private member but is usually tabled to make some political point, they do not persuade a law or change - "they always die on paper" It not just about disliking a law, but to look at it from this angle Is the bill you want to revoke 1) enforcing an important government objective 2) limit the individual rights or freedoms 3) it sets precise standard and clear about what is prohibited If you can say your bill has portions that violates those 3 only then you have a case to recind a law The newspapers do an excellent job of swaying masses of people and government Your best shot to change laws is via public bills - so start working on your local MP -
Yes its strange how the this freedom principle works. I mean so we were barring Jews, alright then we accepted them but also we have to be fair and accept er German Nazis also, you see Canada outlined a number that could enter. I mean were we thinking that these were the folks to help with security from the enemy

well I have just finished reading this book and certainly revised my initial assessment Edenbridge takes us to a settlement community struggling with insecurities of being recent immigrants who were not farmers, of different identity, of a class struggle sustained by anti-Semitism etc. It tells of people who have hope, even when they despair. They have faith to work the land and do well, not the faith embedded religion as you would think but the translated faith from religion, secular faith. These were people who were not farmers and suffer the pains of insecurities and isolation from the general population. A physical organic boundary was created in Edenbridge and Edenbridge suffered the crocks of self-exclusion. To survive the folks Edenbridge develop different beliefs, values and morals. Hence the cooperation and happiness that is protrayed as happy stories at first glance. The happy attitudes are the surviving alternatives from mainstream.
