Whoa, whoa, big guy. This is flatly untrue. What did I just say about your reading problem? Mr Canada said criticizing Israel is antisemitic (not that some of it is, or that it can be...it just is)...and if anyone criticizes Israel, they're saying the nation has no right to exist. that, exactly and only, was to what I responded. So...try not to distort my words or opinions, if you don't mind. Well of course it's easy for you to invent posiitons that I don't hold and then knock them down. But it has nothing whatsoever to even do with me. You're just masturbating.

There's no reason to think so. Thanks to growing civlized natured of the public--who used to be a lot more servile to power--there are fewer war dead. This is directly and specifically because the public won't tolerate mass killings. I mean, of what fast wars with low casualty rates are you speaking? Vietnam? DEspite popular opinion, the American public was supportive of that war for the frist two years...three, really...and the casualty rate was monstrous.

What the hell are you talking about? Peeves made a specific remark about a specif person...and I made a half-serious little retort to it. You've got to learn to stop quoting me, and then responding to something totally divorced from my response. That is, it is not really necessary for you to insist that you don't read very well.

The Truth About Benghazi
bleeding heart replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yet again, kraychik: it's been proven. You're behaving like a Creationist, for Godzilla's sake. No one's mentiond "free market communism" except you...you apparently are under the impression that it's witty. Sorry to disabuse you of your error. (Most comedians are liberal, after all, so doubtless it's a form you find ideologically uncomfortable; though strawmen are clearly favourable enough.) And we're not just talking about an article; we're talking about history. You're going to have to face a difficult truth: the Left had the Right beat on the libertarian front, and by a good long while. And yes, of course preserving liberties is a leftist pursuit, though of course not only leftist. Don't be silly. -
But Kenney's not so sure. Yes, I forgot that you're well known for your civlity and friendliness on this forum.

Well, sure. You disagree with his politics, so you just know he's a bad person.

Frigging radical leftist American Conservative magazine. Or maybe the site, and the article you post, simply doesn't exist? (Thank you, btw, Bubber.) -
On the contrary, the word "terrorist" should have some actual meaning...and declarations by leaders about Intel is not even a faint approximation of "truth" or "fact." What, exactly, are our criteria for determining who is a legitmiate target (adn who isn't a legitimate target?) If it comes down to blind trust of our governments, than we have abandoned democatic principles by definition, and become servile little servants of Power. Yes, it's possible, and the situation is a difficult one whichever way you slice it. That in no way determines that there is a default setting in which our current behaviour must be more or less correct. I, on the other hand, suspect it's a vanishingly small number. I don't argue it; except that increasing terrorism is not a side effect, but a total failure. And "siding with the terrorists" can be the result of watching one's loved ones obliterated, not simply religious/cultural adherence to terrorist behaviour becauseof....some force, some cultural perversity that makes no sense to us. Well, they often are, but not always--we too have certainly not been shy about collusion in terrorism, mass murder of innocent people, and so on. So each situation, I think, needs to be carefully parsed and evaluated on its own terms, albeit keeping larger institutional structures, strictures, and motivations in mind.

She was mentally unstable, but should have used better judgment for what is "technically" a crime? And why does blackmail need the qualifier, by the way? "Technically"? That's cold, brother, real cold.

The Truth About Benghazi

So long as Romney acts suitably "manly," (whatever that means to Matthews), and maybe dons a flight suit or something, ol' tingly-leg will be happy as a clam. -

I don't think of you as a bully...or at least not a successful one. (Which speaks better for you than if you were good at it, in my view.) I appreciate this, but we're not talking about opinion here, kraychik. We're not talking about whether left-libertarianism is viable, or sensible; this particular debate is not about making any value judgement on it whatsoever. What we are talking about is the fact that it exists, the historical truth that libertarianism has as its origins in the radical Left: the anti-Leninists, the anarchists. These are the things you have repeatedly denied. You're denying objective reality, in service to cherished doctrinal pieties. -

No, I linked that for you, because I thought it would be a good place to start. At any rate, you now see that your denial of the very fact of old, leftist libertarianism was explicitly incorrect. Your concession leaves a little to be desired, kraychik--because of your cowardice in matters of political debate--but a concession it nevertheless is. I should add--since I can always anticipate and predict the responses of our resident effete little reactionaries--that any complaints you have about how sensible the notion of Libertarian Socialism is, and problems or weaknesses you no doubt attribute to it, are totally beside the point here: ...the point being that you denied it was even the case that leftwing libertarianism exists; or that it predated rightwing libertarianism; or that the very word was coined by its leftist adherents. You simply refused to countenance any of it. So again, I do appreciate your concession (finally!), even if I find your concession a bit weak. No doubt it stings to be exposed as more ignorant than he whose ignorance you have deemed unprecedented. -

As demonstrated. I know, the fact bothers you. That's not my fault, though oddly you seem to think that it is. No, you don't understand, because you think it means "leftist," rather than an actual phenomenon to which many on the left have frequently adhered. Because you think objective facts begin and end with "left" and "right," after which we determine the world created by these factors, you're unable to see anything. So you think that statist right-wingers--of which we have an overabundance, obviously--are actually left-wingers. Since they're statists (or dictators, or killers, or terrorists) they must be leftists. A more self-serving and masturbatory approach to udnerstanding the world around you is difficult to imagine. You're beginning to babble now, an unfortunate side-effect of being trounced in debate. -

If you think the President of the United States is going to move towards any serious disarmament, that will effect its ability to impose its might at will, you're honestly more delusional than I thought. You're entering truly wild-eyed territory now. -

This isn't a response to my post. Odd that you'd quote it, before rambling about whatever demons ail you at the moment. Agreed. Start with "libertarian," kraychik, just for fun. .. What are you on about now? Oh yeah: your bizarre and one-note obssession. -
From Kenney's remarks: "We're going to toughen policy to "change the impression"....whether the impression is "fair or not." Speaking of "good sane, sensible reasons."

No...he means the much-cherished conservative fantasy, demonstrably ridiculous, that the historically militarily-aggressive Democrats are something other than what they are. An often-used notion is that they are "feminine" on military matters, while the Republicans are "masculine"--a formulation which itself begs all sorts of interesting questions, I think. -
Yeah, I do like that. Sure, and I can't explain any good reason why Spiderman is better than the Avengers. there's nothing I can put my finger on. If anything, the Avengers seems my style. It just left me a little cold, for some reason. For that reason, I haven't written off the movie. There have been movies I didn't like, and then appreciated more later, on second viewing. The very fact that the Avengers has been so well-received, by almost everybody, it seems, tells me to give it another shot. I'll wait a few months, and then check it out.

Jeesh...the "politically correct" term is promiscuously overused at the best of times....now I see it's being applied willy-nilly, based on posters' ideological preferences.

The US government has admitted that some of the deaths are civilians. [edit] OK, I assume you didn't mean what I thought you meant; you weren't calling the fact of civilian casualties into doubt, but rather expressing that we don't know of all the claimed civilian deaths are accurate. That's fair enough; but by the same token (exactly the same token), it also remains opinion that all the "terrorist" deaths are in fact of terrorists. My understanding is that it's far worse. It's not quite the proper standard to hold ourselves to, however. One of the worst aspects of the "war on terror" is the possibility that so much of our behaviour has instigated and precipitated further terrorism, and terrorist recruitment. At some point, we should wonder how much responsibility for this precipitative behaviour--how much responsibility for terrorism--should be placed on our shoulders.

Uh...you're rather dodging your reasoniong for using the word. And your use of it as a pejorative. You're not going to start debating dishonestly, are you? I mean, you seemed to be speaking against dishonesty earlier in this very thread. -

Then you'd best dredge up my "alarmist" remarks, so you can educate us all on how the term is accurate and warranted...when you use it, never mind anyone else. And if you can't find my "alarmist" remarks, why, then that means (thanks to your formulation) that you were using it as a pejorative--and as dishonest propaganda, as you put it. Which would then rather dilute your charges here...since you can't be angrily opposed to that which you gleefully practice. So...once you've uncovered my alarmist remarks, we'll continue. -
