Is it global warming or an ice age?
gerryhatrick replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in The Rest of the World
Who are you talking to? MBurns. Black Dog. Anyone else who doesn't have the basic knowledge about global warming and it's expected results. Probably you as well... -
National Post = National Disgrace.
gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well here is where we go our separate ways Gerry. The NP is a single paper and, intelligent people don't rely on one paper for their information as they are often following the wrong source or are opinionated hence, any moron that sees the NP as the national Voice of Canada needs a brain transplant. How many sources a person relies on for information is irrelavent. The NP story was spread worldwide. As for the NP appearing as a "national Voice of Canada" you take the narrow view. The rest of the world is not as informed about Canada as you are, and that should be our concern. -

Gerry, for once you have a one hundred percent bonafide point. It is bullshit that they don't retract it and appoligize for not doing it sooner. There is no defence for it other than shoddy research and all. However, let's put this into perspective. To me, this is atune to the Dan Rathergate affair with the doctored evidence he was so egar to jump on for his story, nothing more. Hardly a conspiracy or movement to do anything other than be the first with the news. I hope they learned from this but, without a retraction, they prove they haven't. Kudos Krusty. Respect for that. I like the "for once" part, nice touch. I dont see a conspiracy, but when you look at the neo-con associations of the author (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amir_Taheri) we can assume he's not all that interested in accuracy. Screw him, I care nothing of him. I care about Canada and it's reputation, and a newspaper that calls itself "Canada's national newspaper" and operates off of an internet domain of canada.com is damaging the reputation of Canada when it comes out with over the top b#llsh@t like this. -
The story said that the law "envisages" these color codes for Jews. That can certainly be proven false, and it has been. Here, go look at this picture: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7839/80...westgobbles.gif Can you make out where it says "Law would require non-Muslim insignia". There is no such law. Ergo, the story is false. Why would you try and play some strange word game to support a false story? Do you have some personal interest in seeing Iran accused of this thing?

If that what you and MBurns think then both of you have obviously not been following the story. Catch up, it's debunked fully. 100% false without question. They eventually did more homework than just listening to a few ex-pats and checking with a Jewish human rights group. Wake up. Several news organizations have looked at the bill and confirmed there's nothing like what the NP claimed. As well, news organization reps who were present at the debate have confirmed that there was not even any discussion of religious minorities. As well, a Jewish member of the Iranian parliament states the story is false. I could go on, but maybe you and MBurns are just going to believe what you want to believe. The truth is such a cheap commodity these days. -

That's enough to make you one of the global warming denial nuts. My theory is that the truth is just too much for then to handle. It's too depressing to think people would actually take the position soley on the basis of financial concerns...although I guess there are such evils on the world. I'm not interested in debating global warming with denial nuts anymore than I'm interested in debating with a person who thinks the WTC towers were brought down with a controlled demolition. -
The point here now is not who on this forum has said what about the Iranian Prez. The point is that the National Post story was FALSE. It created an international furor, even had PM Harper calling them "capable" of the move and likening them to Nazis. It's a f#$king embarrassment, and it sounds in the international media as if the National Post was somehow connected to the government of Canada. Not surprising since the domain name is "canada.com". Reuters calls it "Canada's National Post" and refers to the story as the "Canadian report". They need to retract, apologize, AND dissavow any connection to Canada. Sloppy journalism and sloppy editing. All the available sources they could have easily called up for confirmation and didn't. It's inexcusable.

Look at this from Reuters today: That paper is an embarrassment to our country. CanWest Global has gone and gotten a domain of canada.com and it's flagship newspaper has pulled an idiot move and it appears to the world like Canada is somehow to blame. Where is the apology? Where is the retraction? -

gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Still no retraction or apology. It sickens me that this newspaper is being referred to as "Canada's newspaper" by international media covering this f$%kup. The media conglomerate that the National Post is part of uses canada.com as a domain, furthering the notion that this insideous rag with it's garbage claims is somehow associated to our nation. What a disgrace. -

It is incredible to see this level of ignorance still exists. Tell me someone has enlightened you in the meantime. Tell me your ignorance is accidental and not willful, please! -
Where did you read that? The National Disgrace...er...Post?

Not anymore they're not. As for the Weisenthall centre, they have no business confirming or denying reports about laws passed in the Iranian parliament and a credible news organization would not hold them and un-named expatriots up as sources for such a stunning claim. The Weisenthall centre is not an authority on Iran. The National Post has egg all over its face and it's credibility is in the gutter.

gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They need to post a retraction and an apology.....the newest article don't cut it. As for your question, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre is a Jewish organization self-described as "dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust". Why would the National Post expect them to know anything about what's been passed in the Iranian Parliament? When you look at the people who've denied the story (including a Jewish Iran parliamentarian) it makes you wonder why they didn't check with these sources first. Same point regarding "Iranian expatriates living in Canada". Do these expatriates have some direct condiut into Irans affairs? Obviously not. It's pathetic sourcing. The Post certainly cannot be forgiven until they issue an apology, and then it's up to the individual. I won't forgive them personally. They've broken a public trust in stunning fashion. -
You've been had: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=5787 In all honesty, when I saw the National Post front page yesterday I thought to myself "no f'n way...this cannot be true". Guess my instinct was correct. You and Stephen Harper think alike btw! He invoked images of Nazi Germany also. Classy. Advice to both of you for next time: Wait for a more credible news source to corroberate any exclusive stories from the National Post/Disgrace.

They are being ridiculed accross the world for the false story about a new Iranian law. How embarrassing. The National Post just threw it's credibility out the window. And the Jerusalen Post wasn't far behind, although they've laid all the blame at the National Posts doorstep. They have a bizarre story titled "New Iranian law to require Jews to wear yellow band" which contains most of the evidence that debunks the story, and then does a wierd two-step to rationalize the story headline. Very strange. They have since changed the headline to "Iran denies religious dress code law [iI]". What terrible journalism. And now, not even a full news-cycle later, they have ANOTHER story that seems planted in reality and blaming the National Post for their previous zealousness: http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid...icle%2FShowFull This is a f$%k up far beyond anything I've ever seen in the media, bar none. The National Post better issue a retraction and apology tomorrow. The half-assed excuses they printed today only add to their disgrace. And there's Stephen Harper yesterday...even AFTER experts were denying the story, drudging up shit to throw at the fan. "It boggles the mind that any regime on the face of the Earth would want to do anything that would remind people of Nazi Germany." Another embarrassment.

What's interesting is your diehard support for this demonstrated liar. Your red herring that he might have been "honestly expressing" his belief is a poor attempt. It is not OK to say that you KNOW something when you clearly do not. Rumsfeld knew that the evidence was suspect, so there was no honest way he could say they knew where the WMD's are. Using your excuse anyone can tell any lie they feel like as long as they qualify it later with a "that's what I believed at the time" statement. That about it? -

Actually it is, if person A has person D,E, & F working for them and advising them that person B is not credible. McGovern demonstrated a clear lie. And the blog link you give trying to poke a hole in McGoverns case against Rumsfeld is very poor. The WaPo story linked to in that blog entry contains information that demonstrates the premise of the blog entry false: "The White House was far more interested in trying to get Sabri to defect than in the information he was providing on Iraq's weapons programs, in part because the intelligence community did not trust him, another former intelligence official said." Interesting that context was left out! Whoever wrote that blog entry is a rank amature, linking to the very story that debunks the nonsensical partisan nitwittery the blog tries to foist. -

Oh, so it's SABRIS fault! That is truely pathetic. One group decided on this war and one group pumped up false and misleading fears and used faulty intelligence. The Bush Cabinet. From the Washington Post story the blog cherry-picks: So, the intelligence community DID NOT TRUST Sabri. But, it's OK for Rumsfeld to take the mans word (dispersed) and repeat his claims in a form indicating absolute certainty. Rumsfeld seems to have lied when he said "we know where they are". Do you agree? -

gerryhatrick replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
One attentive poster has noted with dismay that this topic is similar to another topic. It should be noted, however, that this is a different video source and this version has more content. Given the sheer amazing depth of this vivisection of Rumsfeld and the reasoning for the Iraq war, I'd say more threads yet would not be unreasonable. We are witnessing the dismantling of the lies, and Mr. Rumsfeld was one of the most intimidating of the liars, thus his downfall is quite symbolic. When great moments and tipping points occur they should be broadcasted. -
Quite frankly, I don't care if you are a "fan" of GWB or not or if you agree with my "anti-Bush noises" or not. If I post two threads on the same subject and you don't like it, complain. Not to me - unless you do it in private - to big brother. It's obviously an issue near and dear to you, and I wouldn't want you to not follow your heart. Peace.

Yes, I saw a version that showed the video for that. A security goon had him by the arm and was leaning into him. McGovern says "this is America." in the tone of recognizing a sad reality rather than a question. The guy is truely heroic -
Liberal party shows Ignorance and Arrogance
gerryhatrick replied to geoffrey's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You mean an attack like this: "> Liberal party shows Ignorance and Arrogance, Says all parents are unfit to raise their own kids" This is so dishonest and ignorant, and the funny part is the Conservatives are the source of this spin. It's not just the ranting of some online ideologue, it's actually real political spin. Oh well. We're going to go through our own Bush-style era of bald-faced political bull$hittin' for a while now, that's expected.
