My kids are smarter than you are at your age. -
You're right in that we can't have it both ways. My choice would be to end any and all extradition proceedings and applications. If someone commits a crime in another country and flees to Canada (as usually happens), we should look into it and just kick him to the border. I really don't care where he goes...it is the responsibility of the nation where the crime was committed to find him. If a Canadian leaves our borders, they should no longer be under our protection. The only exemption to this would be those required by our nation to travel (soldiers). If they breach the laws of another country, they pay the price as dictated by that country's laws. See how simple that would be?

You are correct, I am only interested in compliance. If people will not respect the laws, either throw them in jail or get rid of the law. I am in the Health, Safety and Loss Control sector of the oilpatch. We have all kinds of rules, and some are stupid without doubt. However, that doesn't change my job. Rules are rules. Now, that being said, I heard a statistic years ago in one of my courses that I still refer to (and I don't remember who or what, just that it raises a good point). "If a rule does not have 70% voluntary compliance, it is a recommendation." So if 70% of Canadians comply with the pot being illegal law, then the law should remain in force. If 31% of Canadians do not comply with the law, then decriminalize it because you're just chasing your tail. Now the same applies for rape. If 70% of judges are going to give out sentences (actual jail time served) of 18 months, then the penaly for the crime is 18 months, not 7-10 years (or whatever it reads in the penal code). In all things legal, clarity is required. I abhor "flexible sentencing" and "alternate measures" for ANY crime. Canada has a set of laws, and those laws carry penalties. Therefore, if the law is broken, the penalty applies. I don't particularly want a child rapist being allowed to live in a halfway house. I also don't want my kids growing up watching the idiot teenagers across the street smoking dope in front of their house. My kids know drugs like that are illegal and yet they watch people breaking the law and nothing being done about it. What kind of message does that send our youth? So I called the cops and had their little asses hauled away. I know they were back in about three hours, but I don't care. My kids got to see what happens when you break the law. -

A poor choice of smoking pot at 18 is not the same as running a grow-op, and therefore does not deserve the same punishment. RIGHT NOW my beer is legal. If prohibition ever came back, I would have to decide how much I am addicted to my beer. Choices. Losing a hand? Beheadings? Sure. Black burkas? Don't believe in burkas. -
Charter of Rights: 25 Years Later
Hydraboss replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Closing the borders" does not have to involve constructing a wall around the country. Burn that useless piece of parchment called the Charter, and let's start again. Change the wording from "person" to "citizen", and don't extend ANY rights to non-citizens. If you're not Canadian, you don't get to share in our rights. Freedom of Speech Freedom of Religion Freedom to Own Property Freedom to Assemble and Drink Beer That's about it. Immigration is a whole other can of worms. Close the border to those that we do not need. ANY hint of criminal activity....here's your boat now. Bye. Enter the country under false pretenses or with fake documents....here's your boat. Bye. Marry a Canadian to stay in the country? Now both of you can have seats beside each other on the boat. Guess your new spouse is a citizen of YOUR country now. Let an Albertan run the Immigration Department. -

So where does the addiction kick in? If I know that I could get 20 years in the clink and lose everything that matters to me, and I still do it, do you know what that's called? Addiction. Also stupidity, but mainly addiction. The punishment is not nearly harsh enough...for either case. Rapists should be subject to capital punishment (no reoffending there) and dope grow ops should be subject to life imprisonment. There, that settled that now didn't it. Someone pass me a (legal) beer. And would someone please wake up shavluk. -

Exactly how stoned are you right now? You write like a blithering idiot. The first few posts I saw of yours seemed strange, but I just thought you were passionate about your dope. However, your responses have degraded to the point of becoming utter nonsense. For the sake of everyone on this board, either start making sense or refrain from posting. Rants such as yours do not add to the conversation, or even provide comic relief...they just waste bandwidth. -

Princess MOXIE, Please rephrase your answer to read NFLD. queenie may wrongly assume that you are sending it to play football in the United States. Looser out. -
So someone finally resurrected this poll. I was wondering if and when this would ever happen. I wonder if the numbers will change with all the new posters on the board. The numbers are encouraging for me when you look at the total number of people supporting separation in some manner.

Please do us all a favor and learn to spell. I am a loser. Not a looser. That would be like saying, "My screws are looser than yours." or more properly "My screws are more loose than yours." If you're indicating that my (meaning me) screws are looser than yours, I would have to debate it. While they are, in fact, loose, they are not looser. As for the content of my posts in reply to yours, I am giving your comments the respect that they deserve. I'm not sure if my statements are posted in Hansard, but I believe they should be. Have you not yet figured out that the general consensus on this board is that your arguements are baseless, and that the only reason people are even answering you is because they are waiting for something interesting to be posted. Of course, if you had read the Westminster Statute, you would already know that. -
Canada...arms supplier to the world!

So if I really want to buy an anti-aircraft missile to defend my house against burglars, that would be okay? Man, you are one annoying party hack. -
I'm sure that Army Guy can confirm this. SERVING IN AFGANISTAN IS VOLUNTARY. If you don't want to go, no one is going to make you. This is Afganistan, people, not Vietnam. If you volunteer for a mission and then have negative side effects, sorry. You signed up for it. These soldiers (bless 'em) are not prisoners over there, they signed up because they believe in it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If you can't stand behind our soldiers, please feel free to stand in front of them.

Hey Alberta, shortage of service workers in Ont.
Hydraboss replied to margrace's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Oh no!!! Alberta is forcing Ontario businesses to pay $10/hour for workers!!! So? Margrace, aren't you one of the people who was bitching that poor, downtrodden people couldn't live on the pittance that Alberta employers were paying (you know, when I posted that my labourers were ONLY making 60 grand a year)??????? Can't you find someone else to blame for your situation other than Albertans? It doesn't matter what we do out here, you're going to find fault with us. I suggest that you quit looking west. -

Hey Princess Moxie...(bows deeply)...now that you're royalty, would you mind taking queenie and doing the, uh, off-with-its-head-thing? Just asking. -
why Alberta hasn't seperated
Hydraboss replied to no queenslave's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
So to sum up... queenie has no clue as to Canadian history. queenie has even worse skills in english and is generally rude to posters. queenie doesn't really have any idea why Alberta hasn't separated. Does that pretty much cover it? Here's a hint for you queenie: Quit sniveling about Westminster and do some homework. Even you should be able to see that you are hopelessly outclassed when it comes to facts on this board, and more pointedly, on this subject. Sit back quietly and listen, you might learn something. As for why Alberta has not yet separated, why not ask Albertans? Or would that make too much sense? There is no good reason for the lack of movement towards secession except for: #1 - Feigned feelings of "togetherness" with the ROC #2 - Too many "non-Albertans" living here that would not want to part from there families in their home provinces #3 - Far too many politicians spouting how Alberta would suffer without the ROC Should we (meaning us, not you) separate? Absolutely. There would be no important loss for the people of Alberta, only the people of Canada. I for one am sick of supporting them (Ontario excepted as always) and I also don't want to leave this kind of legacy for my kids to pay for. Keep in mind that in Alberta we believe in working for what we get, unlike some parts of Canada. Do we have a different attitude here? One would have to be blind not to see it. Now, try to stay on topic if you can. -

Either way...who cares. This is Canada, follow the rules or get out.

I'll be glad to stay in my country, if you promise to keep people like you out of it. Want any of your welfare bums back?
-
I was never a "rich kid"...not even close. And my hard work DID get me where I am. Would I like to make twice as much as I do now? Sure, why not. Do I need to? Not even a little. You're right. I am lazy. I used to work 7 days a week 52 weeks a year and never saw my kids. Newsflash!!!! Because I worked my ass off, I can take it relatively easy now. "Nobody done never gived me nuttin'". Why the hell would I want the headache of employing a bunch of deadbeats? I look after about 1200 of them now, and it's not my company. Of course, those deadbeats make $50-$70k a year when they want to. Doesn't matter anyway...the problem isn't a lack of jobs....it's a lack of workers. Unemployed in this country are lazy. Period.
-
Can't afford to. Too busy paying most of my disposable income to lazy bums that are in turn busy teaching their 13 kids how to scam the system to get more of my disposable income. If they would turn off the "Have a bunch of kids and whine a lot and then we'll fleece the taxpayer for more and pay you for everything" tap, I could afford to help some people out OF MY OWN ACCORD. Due to the government stealing from me to give to the lazy and stupid, I refuse to voluntarily give one red cent to ANY charity except the Stollery Children's Hospital. The United Way can kiss my ass.

Yeah. That cop shouldn't be a cop, and he should've had his ass thrown in jail for possession.
