But Mr. Dithers says it is. And as you know he never lies ...

Next thing you know they'll have Harper out raping old ladies or something. Hard to believe there's so many idiots in this country that eat this up like breakfast.

Harper's inexperience - this is serious folks
Hicksey replied to emailforcanada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We should elect the Liberals back to office. After all, they have plenty of experience pilfering our tax dollars for trips around the globe. NOT! What a joke. I think even with his little experience, Harper will bring Canadian values to the world in a new, less confrontational way than Martin has. Let's face it. Any idiot can do better than to scream NO! to every comer not in the EU and hurl belittling comments at them for months afterward. -
No kidding, if your going to do that, at least do it right. This candidate should withdraw from the race or not be allowed to sit as a Liberal when elected. People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and those that work for them. These are not payed employees. They are volunteers. Did the Conservatives drop out fo the entire provincial election because a moron in their ranks authorized an ad calling Dalton McGuinty a vicious kitten eater? According to your logic, they should ahve just dropped it. Wait a minute...I've forgotten one very crucial fact here. The current sexual assault idiocy involves a Liberal. When it's the Liberals, it's time to tack responsibility for one's own actions. When it's a Conservative, well....you know...let's just forget about it. Kids will be kids. The employee didn't reflect the intentions of the party. Once again, partisan hypocrisy at it's worst. But seriously, take the glasses off of JD and the two look a lot alike.

The benefit of it is that we attract skill jobs. The problem with it is that unskilled labour jobs get sent overseas. What we need is to start bringing down the price of post secondary education to levels that anyone can afford. Beyond that, if you still remained unemployed you're either lazy or you're not looking too hard. I went and got my trucking license. There's always a job out there doing that. It's not hard. EI paid all but $500 of the price of the course. If you want it that bad there's always a way.

I know, I have read the same news as you. I never said there wasn't people like you and I that care and take great pride in voting. What I said was in regards to the other 50% that don't vote. Look at all the advanced polls, as well as being able to vote by mail and one can see just how far over backwards Elections Canada bends so people can vote without being inconvenienced. And still but a 49% turnout? Its a disgusting. As far as I am concerned, voting is our civic duty.

They seem to think they did. It looks to me like feel-goodism.

The US is not the only country doing this. The Russians and Chinese are as well. I am sorry, but if the Americans want us to help a little to make sure we're adequately protected--we should help as our budget allows. The best defense is a good offense. It is an evitability--whether people want to believe it or not. So the question is: do we want to keep pace and be prepared or what?

I don't believe that the NDP are as far left as you believe they are. Regarding taxes, the NDP hasn't pushed for new taxes this campaign, and NDP provincial govts. in Manitoba and Sask. have ran balanced budgets without big raising of taxes. I believe it's a scare tactic that non-NDP supporters will always use and the only way the NDP will ever beat this misleading rap would be to out-Conservative the Conservatives. Layton has said that his budget is but a down-payment on what is needed on many occasions. And so far economists are saying that there's no wiggle room in his budget. So if he is to lead, and achieve his goal, where does the money come from? I'm sorry, but I think there comes a point where people need to do for themselves. I don't want to live in the Nanny State that's in Layton's dreams. I think a government should empower people to do for themselves, not provide so they get used to not having to. And 9 times out of 10 we can find the services that leaders the likes of Layton want to provide cheaper and better in the private sector. And lastly, I find Layton's culture of class warfare really tired. Corporations do not pay tax, they pass it down to the consumer. Always have. Always will. All his idea of taxing big business will do is stifle their efforts to expand and create jobs. The government cannot run an economy. Business does. As soon as Layton figures that out (thats assuming he ever does) he will understand why his messages aren't hitting. The rest of us know it already. Those who do buy it are caught up in their resentment that some people are rich and they aren't, to which I reply that if they want to be rich--they can be, if they work for it.

Geez, I hadn't heard this one. Shocking. A black Democrat outside of St. Louis, MO got caught with it printed on campaign ad in 2004. And guess what ... not even disciplined by his party! Ran and lost by a landslide. Not surpising in the heartland though. Republicans dominate there.

I am no troll. I am a NDPer but this is orignally from a Tory website. I think its source isn't important just the facts presented. This is all true I checked it out at public works. Here is the link http://www.hcrd.gts.gc.ca/international-e.htm. I am not making this up. You shouldn't throw accusations around like that. Wow, that sounds a little like a US democrat. "It's not whether or not it can be proven, the seriousness of the charge is what matters."

How old are you? 90? You can't predict such a thing. No one knows what the politcal landscape will be in 5. 10. 25. 50 years. Who knows? Maybe even the Green Party may be a big player years fron now, one never knows. August1991: The NDP also has a chance in the Outremont district in Quebec. Now, I'm not saying it will happen and I'm sure Conservatives in Alberta and the Bloc in Quebec might say it will never happen, but there is a chance and no one deny that. And if it did happen, it would be quite something. Just imagine, a NDP seat in a sea of blue in Alberta (Again, I'm sure there are Conservatives here that will say it will never happen, but i say. "never say never." I am 30. I personally think as long as the NDP stays as far left of center as they are, even though Canadians as a whole are slightly left of center, they will stay far from the mainstream and out of power. I don't know many people that enjoy being taxed. One doesn't vote for the NDP if they want to keep any significant part of their income. It's bad enough a middle class family gets to keep less than half their income now.

If you're talking about global warming, remember: Bush has a better record of combatting that than your Dear Liberals do. And the last attempt the US Democrats made at it too. The only heat I see is on Liberals to provide a real alternative to conservatism other than fear and smear.
-
The next thing we know the Liberals will follow suit of US Democrats and start telling people that Harper will burn down black chruches if elected.

Who will be in power on Monday?
Hicksey replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Cute! Can I put a write in vote for me? If not I guess I'll have to vote for Harper. -
To say a vote is a wasted vote is insulting to our democractic system and the electorate as whole. Doesn't matter who you vote for, a vote is a citizen's right in a democratic society like Canada and there is never such thing as a wasted vote. And to your assertion that a NDP is wasted vote; this is typical of Conservative and Liberal's scare tactics to stop people from voting NDP. I believe that the NDP is a best alternative to the corrupt Liberals and the right wing agenda of the Conservatives. As a staunch conservative I wouldn't even call a vote for the NDP a wasted vote. But I think that realistically that a vote for the NDP won't be a vote for our country's leader in my lifetime.

Liberals in a different kind of trouble
Hicksey replied to kimmy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They are. Its just amazing. They make all kinds of noise in the press about judges and every other issue and when pressed can come up with nothing to back it up nor can they bring to the forefront any sort of coherent argument against Bush or even for their own ideas. They really do need to start running themselves instead of being run by minority groups. -
I, personally, believe that way is the best way to respect everyone. Why can't tradition and gay relationship rights be respected concurrently?

Endorsement is one thing, but flat out lying is another. There was no support for that Quebec sentence. With the polls showing the Tories having *at least* double the support of the Liberals in Quebec it makes you wonder how far the Star will go in distorting the facts to support the Liberals. The Toronto Star may as well be a cog in the Media Arm of the Liberal Party. They've been such since I started reading newspapers and paying attention to politics. The only section I can read in it is the Wheels section. The only thing in there that is annoying is their constant demonization of the SUV. If you listen to the Toronto Star, SUVs run driverless and rampant through crowds of innocents and start wars in the Middle East. Its kind of comical really.

Such as? Besides, you just know Klein has an ace up his sleeve...waiting for the right moment to bring it out and send the Conservatives to ruin. Naw, the conservatives have watched Martin et al fall apart every time Martin, or anyone connected to his campaign for that matter, opens their mouth and have learned just to muzzle Harper and let Martin be the one to self-destruct. First the two statements belittling Canadians by his aide, then the military ad, now this. Every time Martin steps out of the gate with a jab at Harper he ends up apologizing for it.

I'm not surprised at all. I don't think it's strong at all. When Canadians won't go to the polls because they can't be bothered, I think its a sad day for Canada. To think that people in other countries vote under a threat of death in higher numbers than Canadians do, is just speaks to how much Canadians really appreciate what millions of Canadians died for them to do. Now, I'll you give that these days our schools don't teach enough about these things so unless people have the desire to look it up for themselves they'll never truly appreciate the sacrifices made yesteryear so they could live as they do today. And today's politicians and their culture of entitlement, cronyism and pofiteering has turned people off to politics as well. The last 3 governments, the ones I have some knowledge of haven't escaped scandal. And incredibly, after public outcry, the level of scandal in each government at least meets (if not exceeds) the last. However in my opinion this only means that Canadians need to pay more attention to politics and start holding their politicians accountable.

What bringeth out the feminazi in you? terrible sarcastic humour. It was a play on the stereotype of Conservatives being old-fashioned and "family-oriented". I figured ... but if you ever listen to Rush Limbaugh you'd know what I meant by Feminazi. The sarcasm of it screamed Feminazi.

Now, I know we can have many arguments over the premise of how the Iraq elections came about. But we should take notice of something. The Iraqis valued their newfound freedom to choose so highly that nearly 70% of eligible voters showed up to vote in their first democratic vote amidst threats of violence, and a few actual acts of it. Iraqis showed up with their very lives on the line in numbers 42% higher than Canadians did (49% in 2004) with no such fear. That Canadians would put up such a poor showing compared to people who had to risk their lives to enter a polling station should make all of us sick.
