  1. A Jaguar. A very nice car.
  2. /me expects the following from the conservative apologists: 1. Yeah, but the Liberals were way worse, and/or 2. So, Stephané Dion eats a hot dog with a fork and knife
  3. Dion warns early summer break will mire key bills 'Canadians want us to work,' Dion says, urging for late June recess Last Updated: Monday, May 28, 2007 | 1:01 PM ET CBC News Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion urged the prime minister on Monday not to end Parliament early for summer vacation, saying that "Canadians want us to work" through a backlog of bills. With only a few weeks left in session before the summer recess, expected either June 6 or June 8, Dion said there are unresolved issues and key legislation that will be left languishing on the table. At an Ottawa press conference Monday morning, Dion — with Liberal House leader Ralph Goodale by his side — said it was in the minority Conservative government's hands to make Parliament run smoothly. Dion accused the Conservatives of planning a campaign of "troubling" obstructions and deliberate delays on key legislation. By continuing sessions until June 22, he said, Parliament could prevent legislative gridlock. "[it is] usually around the 22nd of June that we end the work of the House in the Parliament. I think that's what we should do," Dion said. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/05/28/...mes-070328.html
  4. The first quote was from MAD magazine, making fun of Dan Quayle. The second quote was Dan Quayle's. http://www.snopes.com/quotes/quayle.htm
  5. Yeah, my first thought was that he's not going to get a lot of positive feedback from the Kremlin.
  6. Don't hold your breath. I don't want to prompt another outburst of your Christian values.
  7. Very dignified indeed. Well? What DID you mean he has a nice car? I'm just guessing. Yes, very dignified.
  8. Very dignified indeed.
  9. You can start with "he wouldn't have invaded Iraq," which starts him off +3400 or so.
  10. “Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so.” - George W. Bush (2004) Of course, that pales in comparison to "Gore says he created the internet."
  11. Odd then that you are so defensive. Not to mention that other thread where you posted some psychobabble about why atheists don't believe. btw, I used to live down the street from Dick Dewert. He had a nice car.
  12. "It goes without saying that one of the great things about being a beloved liberal is that when you write a new book, no one in the media will challenge any of the obvious falsehoods you present as facts." The thing that I find interesting, while the conservatives go apeshit trying to tag Gore with the label of "liar," they're completely content to give the Bush administration a pass even though the Bush administration's lies led to a war which has cost thousands of lives. Let's put the lies in perspective. So called lie that Gore invented the internet < lies told by the Bush administration that have cost lives.
  13. I realize this is off topic, but would it be too much to ask to use proper names when referring to people? I mean, okay, I can figure out who Steve is, but "Flim Flam?" Have respect for those of us who don't read rabble (or it's conservative counterpoints). That way, not only do you avoid appearing blatantly partisan, but the rest of us will be able to follow along.
  14. The right has its own conspiracy theories. The one about Osama establishing a new Caliphate is a real knee-slapper. Or the one about Saddam Hussain and WMDs. How about the conspiracy theory that goes "the majority of scientists who have voiced their opinion have supported the idea of global warming for some secret reason... "
  15. “Leftists are not necessarily conspiracy theorists, but most conspiracy theorists are leftists.” - Stig Nasty
  16. From Snopes: The "Al Gore said he 'invented' the Internet" put-downs were misleading, out-of-context distortions of something he said during an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "Late Edition" program on 9 March 1999. When asked to describe what distinguished him from his challenger for the Democratic presidential nomination, Senator Bill Bradley of New Jersey, Gore replied (in part): During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system. Clearly, although Gore's phrasing was clumsy (and perhaps self-serving), he was not claiming that he "invented" the Internet (in the sense of having designed or implemented it), but that he was responsible, in an economic and legislative sense, for fostering the development of the technology that we now know as the Internet. http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
  17. Does anyone actually believe that?
  18. I was up there a couple of years ago and it surprised me how much the city has changed. That being said, I'm not planning a return trip anytime soon. Yeah, the article quoted said there were "professional practice issues." His statement that people shouldn't expect to find a family doctor is probably enough for a rebuke. I think this is far from a totalitarian action.
  19. Democracy in trouble, Gore says in book Last Updated: Tuesday, May 22, 2007 | 1:10 PM ET CBC Arts Al Gore, the former U.S. vice-president who has devoted the last few years to protecting the environment, has turned his attention to saving the American political system. Gore released a new book on Tuesday, The Assault on Reason, which describes U.S. politics as a rigged game that suppresses honesty and rewards deception. http://www.cbc.ca/arts/books/story/2007/05/22/gore-book.html
  20. It's deja vu time. . . A new party can spring up, split the conservative vote and we can have 13 more years of Liberal rule.
  21. Over the last decade, there has been a major breakthrough in our understanding of global temperature change over the last 1000 years. Several different but important studies, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, revolutionized what we know about the 20th century in the context of past centuries. The research of the late 1990s formed the foundation for a progression of studies that followed, incorporating advances in statistical techniques and information from a broad range of proxy data types. Although each of the proxy temperature records shown below is different, due in part to the diverse statistical methods utilized and sources of the proxy data, they all indicate similar patterns of temperature variability over the last 500 to 2000 years. Most striking is the fact that each record reveals a steep increase in the rate or spatial extent of warming since the mid-19th to early 20th centuries. When compared to the most recent decades of the instrumental record, they indicate the temperatures of the most recent decades are the warmest in the entire record. In addition, warmer than average temperatures are more widespread over the Northern Hemisphere in the 20th century than in any previous time. http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwarming/paleolast.html
  22. The irony of course, is that while they're trying not to influence the game, they wind up influencing the game. The thing that drives me loony is when the proponents of the "New NHL" say that "in football it's a penalty if it's in the first minute or in overtime." True, but a holding penalty at the 50 yard line doesn't give the other team a 20% chance of scoring. Someone posted this on the calgarypuck forums: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v141/Hap...refolympics.gif That's about it.
  23. Yup, it was the Flames in 6. Careful what you wish for. The Ref Wings throw 10 players on the ice every shift - 4 of them in striped shirts.
  24. You obviously forget the hatred directed toward Martin by the cons on this forum. Those criticizing the Prime Minister also usually have the decency to call him by his name. The critics of Mr. Martin were frequently less than that kind when they referred to him as "Mr. Dithers."
  25. I drive 80km one way each day to work in a rural area. The price of gas (up $0.20/litre in the past two weeks) is hurting me.
