  1. DO NOT ENDORSE PROMISCUITY! They're a creative bunch. I'm sure they can come up with something.
  2. Were you in favor of banning smoking in bars and restaurants?
  3. The ONES who SHOULD be doing something about this are those who are on the spotlight right now: THE AIDS CONFERENCE! They've got the ears of the public, don't they? They've got the publicity! They're the darling of the media! Everybody's expecting a rational and truthful discussion....and planned actions from them...about how the WORLD will tackle this problem together! So how come not even a slight rebuke come from any of these very prominent figures....or even positive suggestions......that Hollywood should try to play a big part in this campaign. It wouldn't take much for Clinton to get Hollywood supporting him in this endeavor...they've supported him so well before! So why is he not using his "influence?"
  4. The liberals had abandoned moral standards......and yet demands that we become "morally responsible!" They abandoned moral standards...and then hypocritically demand that we behave morally! By what moral standards do they make this demand? Moral relativism? Sounds like a typical liberal circular argument. It is right if I say it is right.
  5. How do you know they were the same people? Then there's Dalton McGuinty! "During Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty’s recent election campaign, he promised to implement a province-wide smoking ban in all public places, workplaces, bars and restaurants. The proposed smoking ban would take effect in three years, so bars and restaurants that currently allow smoking won’t need to quit cold turkey. " http://www.journalism.ryerson.ca/online/do...totw/sbubak.htm "McGuinty referred to Toronto City Council as a "mature government (we have to remember that Dalton lies a lot) and is giving them more power including the power of taxation. Last week, Toronto City Council agreed to issue "safe crack kits" to those who partake of the illegal drug and are considering setting up safe injection sites where those who take illegal drugs can safely break the law." http://www.canadafreepress.com/2005/toronto121905.htm
  6. How do you know they were the same people? Then there's this Toronto City Council "The Toronto, Ontario City Council overwhelmingly approved a wide-ranging drug strategy in Dec. 2005. The Toronto Star reported on Dec. 15, 2005 ( "Addicts Get Crack Pipes In New Drug Strategy") that "Crack users will be given pipes and the city will study whether to set up sites where addicts can use drugs under a wide-ranging drug strategy approved by city council yesterday" http://www.csdp.org/news/news/canada.htm "BARS SPENT THOUSANDS He said bars and restaurants invested thousands of dollars to build previously required designated smoking rooms, only to see those rules go up in smoke under new provincial Smoke Free Ontario legislation. Bill 53, which rewrites the City of Toronto Act, allows city council to determine the definition of "public places" for the purpose of smoking restrictions. It requires only that the "provision that is the most restrictive of the smoking of tobacco prevails" if there is a difference between provincial and municipal rules." http://www.mychoice.ca/display_page.asp?page_id=794
  7. They booted out something which is LEGAL (cigarette-smoking) in public places...and now wants to fund paraphelnalia, AND considering to build public places for something ILLEGAL!
  8. How do you know they were the same people? Dr. CUSHMAN, the head honcho who started the crack-down on smoking in public places....now wants to hand over crack pipes. He must have a big crack on his head! "It was a pathetic sight at City Hall on April 2l" when City of Ottawa Medical Officer Dr. Robert Cushman whined that too much money was going in to drug enforcement, not rehabilitation. Dr. Cushman's solution which is supported by Mayor Chiarelli, councillors Bedard, Feltmate, Holmes, Cullen, Doucet and Stavinga is to provide crack pipes to cocaine addicts. A City of Ottawa van with city employees goes to various destinations to give these kits to cocaine addicts and needles to heroin addicts. The City of Ottawa should be getting these people off the street, not aiding and abetting in the commission of a crime. Not one study has shown this reduces spread of Hepatitis C or other infectious disease. Pipes and needles are being found in parks and playgrounds by young children which is, totally shameful. Chief Bevan was also at same meeting and has strongly advised against handing out crack pipes and is now seeking advice from the provincial and federal crown attorneys whether this program is in fact illegal. The Police are responsible for law enforcement and Ottawa has to have a Zero Tolerance policy. The Police need the support of the politicians and the public as this Mayor and Council are definitely soft on crime!" http://www.kilreaformayor.ca/story_e.aspx?id=12
  9. No link for it, I'm afraid. I did see it on the live streaming video of the conference and there is supposed to be some post conference transcripts afterwards. I'll see what I can find as it is posted. Well I am skeptical of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING they say....or show! Some special groups bent on pushing for their own agendas will stop at nothing...and that includes making misleading claims. This AIDS CONFERENCE...all you hear is more funding...funds...donations...money! What poor third world country will not jump on the bandwagon and support this? They are set on only some particular ways to combat what they want to picture as the most dangerous threat to mankind as far as diseases goes. Their actions and decisions however, do not lend credibility to the "desperate" struggle to contain this disease. It smells like a farce. It looks like a farce. And I think it just that....nothing more than a farce!
  10. Fidelity still requires birth control. Do you agree that Fidelity is one of the most effective ways to stop the rapid spread of AIDS? This is a straight question: yes or no.
  11. You got me here...explain why Fidelity requires birth control....unless of course, they're onto family planning. And there's already an abundance of various birth control. We're talking of condoms in particular....because of AIDS.
  12. And just who is it that decides it was not a "multi-pronged approach"....so therefore, scrap it? Who is it that decides what will....and what will not work? Have they tried it? Who makes this brilliant decision for mankind? EVEN IF IT HAS ONLY ONE, SINGLE PRONG... AND MAKE IT A SHORT PRONG AT THAT.....IT CAN STILL SKEWER. One-prong mixed with other prongs...make a multi-prong in the end! They criticized it and rejected it because of one simple reason: the plan came from BUSH! And Absitinence is a Christian value! (so make it two reasons).
  13. Not only do we see those in movies.....but now, it's normal to see promiscuity on prime time tv! I haven't seen "Desperate Housewives"...but I remember someone was complaining about it in this forum.
  14. Yeah. With sex-starved teens...looking "cool" and very much "in" among a group of peers! Getting laid is the main goal of the guys....and.... getting laid is also the main goal of the girls! Usually there's one being poked fun at, and shown to be left out and do not "fit" in the group, and that is a girl with "outdated" values looking for love and who don't wanna just get laid...or the "nerdy" guy...who can't get laid! Usually, he is also the first one to die! This film is aimed to target TEENS! The very same ones who'd think : "it can happen to anyone...but it will never happen to me!"
  15. Oh puhleeez. That's just quite a lame stab at the one thing Hollywood is determined to dis-credit and tear apart at every opportunity it gets: Christianity. I wonder why. It couldn't be because it stands in the way of promiscuous lifestyle, eh? So what do I want remove? ENDORSEMENT OF PROMISCUITY! Let's go back to Hicksey's question: "Why shouldn't both be forced to pay for their wrongs, and be forced to bear the cost and consequences of fixing the problems they have caused?"
  16. Liberals....AND NDPs. There may be some Christian conservatives....but most activists come from the liberal thinkers.
  17. What about this: The liberals who were screaming angrily that we are paying for the healthcare of smokers...are the same ones who are now suggesting we should provide free needles and safe crack rooms for addicts!
  18. In parts of rural Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta, presentations were made this week on the difficulty of education on condom use. The availability was also far more limited, especially for people under the age of 18. Where did you get that info? From supporters of this conference? You bet we'll be seeing a lot of spin and heart-breaking stories!
  19. If the risk is so high that you've got 50% chance of getting HIV...then it's just the question of which is more important for the person: sex or health And if you've already got a spouse...better just stick to your one and only partner. Fidelity makes a great come-back!
  20. There has been a lot of controversy over showing condom use as well. It is said that promotes promiscuity as well. Aw c'mon! That can't be the reason why Hollywood isn't so supportive about that! Then just tone down on casual sex and promiscuity...and stop endorsing and glamorizing it as the "preferred lifestyle."
  21. I meant free condoms for Africa...not Canada. And the only reason why I suggested it was because of the dire situation in that country. A part of me opposes that motion since I question the logic why should we be responsible for other nations' people....just because they have a corrupt government! Africa seems to be bent on self-destructing. However, there is no reason why we should be providing free condoms to everybody in Canada!
  22. Support like this: "there has been less smoking on screen. And as far as TV goes, there is next to no characters smoking." One movie I recently watched promoted the use of condom. The movie: Must Love Dogs (John Cusack and Diane Lane). It managed to squeeze it into the storyline. The pair had delayed having their sex by driving to find an open drug store so they could get the condoms. Hollywood should stop poking ridicule to "out-dated moral values." If they can't endorse it...then the least they can do is not ridicule it! ONE THING HOLLYWOOD could do though is to tone down in making casual sex and promiscuity look to be the "preferred lifestyle!"
  23. Looks like more countires are involved than that. "Dr Stanton said the tobacco industry -- under threat in developed countries like Australia, Britain and the United States -- is expanding into new markets." http://www.tobacco.org/news/125720.html Butting Out on A Global Scale By JULIE RAWE Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 "Jet setters heading to Cuba next week for the annual Havana Cigar Festival need not panic: although the home of the Cohiba banned smoking in enclosed public places on Feb. 7, festival venues will be exempt. Despite a lax kickoff in Cuba, similar bans in other countries have managed to clear the air: • Italy On Jan. 10, smoking was banned in enclosed public places except in separately ventilated rooms. A week later, a police sweep of 1,263 bars and restaurants turned up only nine violators. Says a Roman: "I'm for the ban because it helps me smoke less." As proof, cigarette sales nationwide are down 23%...." http://www.time.com/time/archive/printout/...1027524,00.html
  24. So okay, it may be about this "personal invulnerability"...but you gotta admit, we've hit the brick wall with this kind of mental attitude. Not only with teens...but with adult as well. Sure, it can happen to other people...but it can't happen to me! So it's practically the same as an "I don't care" attitude...especially when when it comes to adults!
  25. Pretty cynical. One thing is for sure, they can't use condoms that aren't available. You are making some broad generalizations here, attributing attitudes of relatively affluent North American youth to people living in poverty in Africa. IF CONDOMS were the answer, then why don't we just supply them....for free? I'm serious.
