  1. Dont' forget that as the opposition Harper can only respond the opposition doesn't drive the agenda. Now campaigning so far he is driving the agenda and its the liberals who are coming off petulant. part of the Ontario problem is the Toroonto Star,There's a good article in the Calgary Sun worth reading about a Toronto Star article, www.canoe.ca The Calgary Sun DATE: 2004.03.05 BYLINE: LINK BYFIELD STAR-CROSSED TORONTONIANS WARNED OF CONSERVATIVE THREAT A stern editorial appeared last Sunday in the Toronto Star, the nation's biggest, fattest, most Liberal newspaper. It warned Hogtown locals not to switch their vote to the federal Conservatives just because a few prominent Liberals happened to steal $100 million from Canadian taxpayers. Beware! admonished the Star. The Conservatives want to "lower taxes," enact a balanced budget law like most provinces, and pay down the national debt. Even worse, "a Conservative government will take a hands-off approach to areas of provincial jurisdiction, such as health and education." It would even probably allow provincial governments to increase the role of private enterprise in the health sector. Pretty scary stuff. Sounds like Scandinavia or Holland. But steel yourself, there's more. "Conservatives say they want to preserve the environment, but they'll balance that with the need to create jobs. They would kill the Kyoto accord." (Actually, Russia is killing the Kyoto accord, but this news hasn't reached Toronto.) "A Conservative government," warned the Star, "will rebuild the Armed Forces, boosting their funding, training and equipment. "And that's just scratching the surface. They would abandon the federal gun registry... (and) protect the traditional definition of marriage ..." All of this sounds so refreshingly sensible it makes you wonder why it alarms people in Ontario. However, the most striking thing about this Toronto Star editorial is how little it sounds like the Toronto Star. Why no more paranoid panic about a "secret right-wing agenda?" Why no caricatures of mouth-breathing, gun-toting, homophobic, holocaust-denying, racist, hate-mongering, Bible-pounding western bigots and crackpots? Where's the standard fulmination against reactionary lackeys of war-mongering Yankee imperialists, and sinister transnational globalism? .
  2. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Please try not to engage in personal attacks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It wasn't, I didn't see any personal attacks, that type of reply along with others is designed to stir it up and bait, don't fall for it.
  3. Wow, pretty optimistic wish I could agree but I'm thinking a liberal minority. Why cos the liberals are sitting back right now & on the defencive, waiting for the last couple of weeks then they'll hit hard with the American style attack ads etc. I would like to think Harper can keep up the momentum, we'll see.
  4. Hmmm not as intolerant or misguided as the many one sided intolerant posts on here. IMO most voters don't give a darn about religion, its only the christiaphobes who keep pushing the issue by trying to stigmatize a party. It isn't flying this time around, there are nore important issues, they will become apparant when voters become more engaged in the process.
  5. Agreed. Most people have accepted the election fact and don't care. Actually most voters don't care much about any of the issues right now, but wait until after New Years, there'll be a big change and polls will start to move one way or another. Quebec is a done deal for the B.Q.
  6. Times do indeed change. But does Harper? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well when you tell me you read or the news media reports that Harper is preaching religion on a street corner or that he kneels to pray 10x daily - then I may sit up and listen. Until then, he is no different in his beliefs, than Chretien, Martin or 50% or more of the Liberal caucus. You have a needle stuck on a record in the same groove - move it along and you just may learn something positive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't think I've seen anyone with quite so much single minded tunnel vision LOL seems to me its strictly to bait people and try stir it up, just another S.D. Religion poppycock, your so right about Harper and when has he ever mentioned religion, he hasn't. Only the intolerant christiaphobes bring it up. Svend is a moonbat, don't really know which would be worse, him or Fry.
  7. Do we like this one? Tories promise help for fisheries on both coasts Canadian Press PETTY HARBOUR, N.L.- — Conservative Leader Stephen Harper says he would give provinces more say in managing fisheries and offer a tax break for fishing families. He says a Tory government would extend Canadian control over outlying areas of the Grand Banks. A Conservative government would scrap the capital gains tax on fishing assets -- valuable licences for instance -- within families. He's also promising more money for fisheries science and research and a judicial inquiry into the collapse of sockeye salmon stocks in the Fraser River in British Columbia. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...me=election2006
  8. http://www.torontosun.com/News/Columnists/...06/1340180.html Bauble-head Svend By MARK BONOKOSKI The cesspool of political "entitlement" and "corruption" in which the federal Liberals are trying not to electorally drown is no longer a one-party domain now that a jewel thief has been acclaimed as Jack Layton's NDP candidate in the riding of Vancouver Centre. No longer can Jack call the kettle black. No longer can Jack talk ethics. How can Jack Layton accuse the Liberals of "helping themselves" in the sponsorship scandal, for example, when he has given his blessing to Sunday's endorsement of Svend Robinson, a politician who helped himself to a $50,000 antique ring while still sitting in the House of Commons.
  9. Socially intolerant these days means not agreeing with a liberal Got this from somehwere don't remember where and kept it. quote: Intolerance is a beautiful thing: It is common these days to hear the word, 'tolerance' It is the politically correct buzzword of the day. However, many people will be surprised to discover that tolerance does not mean what it used to. In the past, tolerance has meant, "the acknowledgement of the views, beliefs and practices of others that differ from one's own" It includes the attempt to understand others, to respect them as human beings--without agreeing with their every thought or opinion. This is an honourable character trait, part of our Judeo-Christian heritage which has been taught and practiced in man sectors of American society. The new tolerance however, has gone much further. Today when the word tolerance is used, it means "viewing all values, beliefs, lifestyles and truth claims as equal"'' The new tolerance goes beyond respecting a person's rights; it requires praise and approval of that person's beliefs, values and lifestyle.... In fact, the new definition was designed to exclude Christians" Unquote
  10. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thats another myth dispelled LOL for sure they are not well versed, I'm not -
  11. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yup it is, it is more red tory than Alliance, like its been said, the CPC is liberal lite now. I've read these misconception before and nobody actually reads the darned thing. Too bad these people who spread untruths around should read the proposed policy documents and what was passed and what was turned down. I used to read all kinds of strange accusations and myths on the old 50plus forums, most if it rarely was based on fact and current issues.
  12. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh Oh does that mean I'm you guys too LOL best thing to do is put Normie on ignore, he is obviously here simply to disrupt the forum and engage in silly tactics. I'm guessing the administrator here can check IP's and dispel any myths perpetuated on that score. I find that many people who simply want to post innendo and deliberately distort facts usually start with those type of accusations, they don't have anything else going for them. Best thing to do is not feed the trolls.
  13. Thats an easy one, Belinda Stronach, Joe Volpe and Scot Brison.
  14. Who does the GST cut really help anyway Scriblett? Martins idea for cutting the income tax is a much more solid plan. Ask all the economists who agreed with him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't you know that if you ask 5 economists 1 question about tax cuts (or anything) you will get 5 VERY different opinions? And why was scrapping the GST so good when the Liberals proposed it and won a majorityon it, but now it isn't?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly, my question too.
  15. He woke up, got a brain, realized socialism dies 15 years ago, etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just like Bob Rae did, he realized there was a problem and had to do something; something very unsocialistic (is that a word). I'm guess most dippers except for the most radical lefties understand that far left socialism isn't what its cracked up to be.
  16. Right on!!! The liberals want to legalize prostitution too, its a slippery slope, just look at the Netherlands for that example. I don't agree with all of the CPC policies, I disagree with the embrionic research statement totally, and would prefer they didn't revisit SSM, but thats how it goes. legalizing pot is a minor issue today. And yup, I do believe its a gateway drug, but no time to debatge this these days, have a campaign office opening to get to.
  17. What proof or source do you have for this, and maybe it is being investigatged. Its not always a good idea to give away all our secrets is it?
  18. I agree with you on this, good thread nice debate. The liberals have not been exactly successful at keeping the provinces happy, so possibly Harper can now try it, its worth giving him a chance at it. Layton won't be able to especially with his oil tax initiatives.
  19. Isn't it tho, wot in ell does SSM etc. have to do with this thread, I have this guy on ignore but I see the one note refrain anyway in replies. Iraq isn't a campaign issue, havn't seen any party bring it up, but I'm guessing both Martin and Harper would provide peacekeepers if asked in future. Not sure how tho cos we don't have a lot of troops or equipment. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  20. First of all, your numbers are wrong. Second, Canada provides exports at the world price. You can't just arbitrarily raise your export price unless there is a shortage because your customers will just go elsewhere. More importantly, softwood exports are an extremely minor part of our economic relationship with the US. Despite it being an emotional issue to many, it is vastly overshadowed by the multi-billion dollar surplus in trade we have with the Americans every MONTH. That is not something to be jeapordised through a trade war with a largely insensitive and economically incompetent Republican government. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good reply, this proposal would just give Alberta separatists another reason to do it, not a good proposal at all in my books anyway.
  21. Sounds good to me. Harper unveils law-and-order agenda www.CTV.ca News Staff December 3, 2005 12:21 PM ET Conservative Leader Stephen Harper unveiled his law-and-order agenda today in British Columbia, promising tougher sentences for drug trafficking. Harper, speaking in Burnaby, B.C., vowed mandatory minimum prison sentences of at least two years for the most serious drug offenders. He said that crack dealers, marijuana grow operators and crystal meth manufacturers "have to know that if they are caught, they will not get a slap on the wrist. "They will go to prison. It is a serious crime, and they will do serious time." He also said he would ban conditional sentences, also known as house arrest, for serious drug crimes. Stiffer fines will also be implemented.
  22. Your pious claims that only rock solid evidence can be used to inform judgement rests on a foundation which consists of months of postings about Steven Harper's "hidden agenda" and his plan to destroy Canada, to destroy public health care, to give the country over to the US, to invite space aliens to control our minds... You've never had a shred of evidence to support any of it, but that hasn't stopped you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I guess the lack of evidence to any of that hasn't stopped the smears, can't pin that stuff on him now, so what can the use. Hmmm Oh I know, if you don't support the liberals you don't love Canada. Ho Hum
  23. And the Aussie Prime Minister has told them all that Aussie have values & tradition and if these groups do not like it, they are free to leave to where their values are practiced. Good on Howard - the guy has guts!! Canada is a limp wimp!1 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Aussies stood up to the quest for Sharia law too, I have a soft spot for Oz, would like to go there one day.
  24. Glad that you agree, i wonder however who it is that you think is "out to change" things? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Am I allowed to say without getting booted ? I'm thinking Stormin Norman is just a tad over the top in flooding the forums. But hey they are not my forums. We can ignore right?
  25. Marriage is a relationship between individuals which has formed the foundation of the family for most societies. Marriage can include legal, social, and religious elements. In western societies, marriage has traditionally been understood as social contract between a man (husband) and a woman (wife), while in other parts of the world polygamy has been the most common form of marriage, usually in the form of polygyny (a man taking several wives) but occasionally in the form of polyandry (a woman taking several husbands). In some western societies today, same-sex marriage is recognized. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Polyandry ? There's a thought, you think that honey do list would get shorter - Talking about polygamy, that is being challenged under C-250 you know, the one where they can't discriminate based on sexual orientation. They have their rights too.
