I think you're mistaking culture for couture. The Japanese salary man may be wearing a western suit & tie but he is not thinking at all like a westerner ... and this thought process is the real western culture. European culture exalts the individual. Almost every other culture on the planet exalts the group or tribe. Which is why almost every single advance in medicine, technology etc. over the last several hundred years have come from westerners. It breeds creativity. Isn't the Bible promoting individualism? I think so. And just speak to people from different cultures living here. Some have become westernized ... most have not & don't want to. They feel their culture is superior. Bin Laden's neice is posing in a bathtub, but most Arab young ladies in the west can't date until Dad picks them out a husband. Even three generations in. The reality is that not enough immigrants from non western countries buy into the western way & once they become the majority, the western way will disappear. The joke however is on them, though, as Europe, America & Canada don't have a miraculous aura about them ... once the culture from the failed socities becomes the norm here ... it'll become a failed society very quickly. I'm glad I'm old!!

Comparing Winston Churchill to an English Bulldog wasn't considered racist, calling Benedict XVI a German Shepherd isn't considered racist .... but compare a non-white individual to a dog and ... VOILA ... the race card comes up. Even though the Chow Chow is the cutest of the three & it is blatently obvious that she doesn't resemble the dog ( oops ... I guess it's racist to point out that Chinese don't sport red hair). Why do we let people take over our minds like that?

Well, we know that when a member of your party stomps on a George Bush doll with their boot, then stabs it in the eye like a psychotic meth addict on the state-run taxpayer-funded CBC, that is not a fireable offence... A few points: Orhan is a good writer. Orhan appears to love Turkey deeply ... his portraits of the country are loving. Parroting the Koran is not good writing ... ever. The Turks DID kill a great number of Armenians. Get over it. Salman Rushdie HAS a homeland ... England. Aside from that ... hate to break it to you ... but no one in the west cares enough about Turkey to give a damn about their identity (as I'm sure no one in Turkey gives a damn about Polynesians identity).

Back in May a lady from Ferndale, Washington, walked into a Waikiki walk-in clinic where I was being pampered. Once the lady gave the receptionist her medical insurance number, the receptionist immediately new everything there was to know about her recent medical history, the name of her GP in Ferndale, her last visit to this GP, the time she was treated in Seattle, the medication she's on, etc. etc.. I was so impressed. If we had a system like that here, I'm sure that it would save Medicare alot of money. Put the "frequent flyers" with nothing but a cold in their place ... out the door. Most of our GPs wouldn't like it one bit though.

In the 50's, Canadian hockey players were SO powerful that the Czechs, in honor of the magnitude of Canadian hockey superstars, renamed their hockey skates "Canadas". I got my first "Canadas" when I was ten. Czechs still call them "Canadas". Now that the tide has turned ... will Canadians reciprocate?
